Dunbar 03-24-2012 09:19 PM

PLAYERS STILL IN: 129
PLAYERS OUT: 6442
TOTAL PLAYERS: 6571

I've already changed my pick twice for tomorrow. Surprisingly hard to find a solid choice considering there are 4 races with 6 entries.

Right now I'm on Tiz Liberty in the 3rd, but that could easily change if there's a scratch down to 5 anywhere.

Meanwhile, I haven't quite cracked the meaningless Top 100 list. Sitting at #102 now.

Good luck, IK.

He is out of town and asked that I put his pick in for him for tomorrow.

He is going with #2 Salty Sarah in the 1st race.

Best of luck you two!

Dunbar 03-25-2012 02:13 PM

There are scratches in the 1st, 4th and 5th that caused me to take another look at those races.

I switched to Halfapondarosa in the 1st. I can't ignore the "sign" that I was humming the theme to Bonanza yesterday! That, and the 7 lbs taken off by the switch to E. Flores.

By picking a different horse in the same race as IK, I make it slightly less likely that both of us will advance, and slightly more likely that at least one of us will.

Nice call Dunbar... Keep it going for us!

Talamo stopped riding the horse 50 yards out, (after trying hard to get something in the stretch). The horse was empty. I continue to be the only horseplayer in the world who cannot succeed with Baffert!

Keep it going Dunbar

Many thanks, Arletta

Cheers, IK

And your horse only missed 3rd by a nose, IK! Very nice effort in the contest. We hardly ever had the same pick, but each found our own way to the final 129. In fact, the 4 of us had very little pick overlap.

I think there will only be about 50 players left after today. 3 of the top 4 choices missed.

Baffert has knocked me out of most of them too... You'd think we'd learn :wf

Congrats, Dunbar! Awesome job.

IK...

You lasted so much longer than most people did...

You did a fantastic and very impressive job. I applaud you, Sir.

Whoo whoo!!! Come on Dunbar!!!

Dunbar 03-30-2012 07:57 AM

Thanks, IK, mmsc & Arletta. Much appreciated!

Today I'm on Talkstoomuch in the 1st, but could easily take a horse in the 4th if there's a scratch that I have time to notice!

(Talkstoomuch is an 8 yr old, which, I hope, is the reason they are offering her up at slightly less the claiming price than she last won at.)

Dunbar 03-30-2012 11:50 AM

Magical Eclipse in the 2nd is tempting, without even considering the fact that I'm a total solar eclipse nut.

Yes, and dodged a bullet by not switching to that horse in the 2nd.

PLAYERS STILL IN: 35
PLAYERS OUT: 6536
TOTAL PLAYERS: 6571

Low stress day today: Eden's Moon in the 4th.

Was surprised to see she was 3rd, but felt better when I saw she cleared 4th by over 7 lengths!

Everyone was on either Eden's Moon or Reneesgotzip yesterday, so no one was knocked out. Still 35 players. I think today's card will spread out the picks.

My early pick is Brown Is Beige in the 2nd. I'll post again if I change it.

We've picked 19 days, but 3 of the 32 remaining players show only 18 total win/place/show finishes. I wonder what's up with that? Probably got byes because of some technical issues.

Day 20... I'll probably go with Shrug in the 5-horse 1st race. Multiple defections from the 2nd, 6th or 7th races could change that.

Wasn't there a race early on that had no show betting or something like that? Believe everyone who selected that race got a bye.

Ocala Mike

You're probably right, with the added stipulation that the selected horse had to finish 3rd. I had two picks in races where show betting was cancelled, and my picks show up in the stats. My horse must have finished 1st or 2nd in those two races.

Shrug was scratched. The #1 looks substantially the weakest of the remaining 4. The 2, 3, & 4 are all pretty close. I was tempted to let the bettors decide (get the fav), but I think I'll go with the #2, Scofield Barracks.

We were wrong, Mike. I asked the Santa Anita contact person, and he answered that it was the "No Contest" race that caused the difference. They chose to allow all picks from that race to survive, regardless of finish position. Seems like the right decision to me, too.

I think this was my 3rd straight 3rd place finish. But at least my horse was 6 lengths clear of 4th place. One player is eliminated after 4 races, with 5 more players still at risk.

On to tomorrow's card.

my miss storm cat 04-05-2012 10:37 PM

Wow there are only 31 players left.

Go, Dunbar!

Dunbar 04-06-2012 03:00 PM

Thanks, mmsc!

I had some frantic last minute indecision today. Main contenders were Moonstruck Maya in 5-horse 1st Race, Lisa Lulu in 6-horse 2nd Race, After Later in 9-horse 6th Race, and Circle The Moon in 9-horse 7th Race.

Ended up on Lisa Lulu as time ran out.

Dunbar 04-06-2012 03:48 PM

Thanks, Arletta. That one was a relief. And it ended my 3rd-itis, too.

After 2 races, 2 people are out and 14 have survived. 15 players are still sweating.

--Dunbar

Dunbar 04-06-2012 03:51 PM

Thanks, IK. It was a little unnerving when I saw I was the only person on Lucy Lulu, and that another horse in the race was the most popular choice today.

Early choice for tomorrow is Mint Humor in Race 3. (I was a big fan of Sharp Humor)

I'm going to be on the road all day and may not be able to check for scratches.

Yes!!! Good job DB!!!

Dunbar 04-07-2012 08:41 PM

Thanks, Arletta. I actually switched my selection to Lady of Shamrock when two scratches turned the 8th into a 5-horse race, but the outcome would have been the same.

8 different horses were used by the 27 players today, and 7 of those horses finished top 3. One person got knocked out, leaving 26 players for tomorrow's card.

Just got home. I've got Starry Skies in the 7th. Going off in a few minutes. Picked it last night, liked it even more after the scratch.
