Not that I like Anthony's Cross in the Derby, but it's odd that Harty has raced this horse so sparingly the last few months, considering he figured to barely, if at all, have enough earnings to make the field.

I've wondered if he realized that now he has to get a first or second in the SA Derby to be guaranteed to make it. He does seem like a horse to me that could easily run in the top four in Ky, but he could also run fourth at SA as well.

Elite Alex turns in serious blinkered drill. Looks like he'll come in hot to Arky Derby next Saturday.

Unless Calvin Borel wrestles him back 15 lengths off the pace again.

Has anyone noticed Travelin Man is pointed to the Derby Trial?

If he wins this he would have $240,000,any chance that he goes on a weeks rest to the Derby

I would imagine the only scenario with that happening, is if Uncle Mo, Stay Thirsty and Brethren all fall off the trail for one reason or another, and Pletcher is desperate for a starter. Highly unlikely, I'm guessing.

And I think they know that horse is a sprinter.

Gotta think Comma to the Top will be Derby bound now which means Nakatani will have the mount. If Nehro does get in,I think Borel could get the call(if Elite Alex is not in)

Comma to the Top possible for Derby
Comma to the Top, a close second to Midnight Interlude in Saturday’s Santa Anita Derby, may run in the Kentucky Derby on May 7 after all.

Like I said he might as well,he didn't look bad at all going 1 1/8. Only problem will be in the Derby he will have ALOT of company upfront. Maybe a play for 3/4 but about it

From Darren Rogers at Churchill, a summary of where the Blue Grass, Arkansas Derby and Lexington fields stand with earnings... The Lexington's purse was reduced from $300,000 to $200,000 after they got dropped from G2 to G3 so isn't Jaycito the only horse that would have enough graded earnings whether he hits the board or not? I can't remember more than a couple other probables. Unless there's a bubble horse going, the winner's share wouldn't be enough for anybody else. Obviously they want a good race from him. I just know that on the last list, he's 20th.

This is good news for me. I thought he was cooked. I thought I had three hopeless picks in Jaycito, Stay Thirsty and Silver Medallion. But after looking at the rest of the field, who knows on that particular day.

Linny 04-19-2011 07:00 AM

If Jaycito gets to the Lex, he should be a go for Churchill. I see him as the best 10f prospect but I don't like it when a horse has any "blips" along the path. Of course, this year, who knows? It's a complete mess and the distinct lack of starts for most of the more legit horses makes it worse.

analyizethis 04-19-2011 02:11 PM

There will be injuries and defections. In previous years how far down the list did they usually go?

Kasept 04-19-2011 02:23 PM

Jaycito still hasn't worked and now appears highly doubtful for Lexington..

Vs. will have the entire undercard starting at 11am....minus of course the Woodford Reserve which gets no TV coverage every year.

Soldat's Kentucky Derby work encourages McLaughlin
By Mike Welsch

BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. - Fountain of Youth winner Soldat gave every indication he’s bounced out of his disappointing performance in the Grade 1 Florida Derby in good order after zipping five furlongs in 59.07 seconds under absolutely perfect conditions early Thursday morning at Palm Meadows.

Breaking off at the half-mile pole, Soldat went his opening quarter-mile in 24.01. He changed leads perfectly while hugging the rail into the stretch then accelerated down the lane, covering his next quarter in 23.27 to hit the finish line in 47.28 while under just slight encouragement nearing the wire . Soldat then continued on very strongly around the turn to the mile pole in what was little more than a gallop-out before pulling up six furlongs in 1:12.76 and seven-eighths in 1:27.82.

Did he get any dirt thrown back at his face during this work? Because he sure didn't fire being behind horses.
