He threw a great pass to Keller earlier in the game that would have resulted in a 1st and goal, but Edwards was called for an illegal shift.

Exactly.....his best moment was the least significant of the game. Until he shows he can make a play he has to deal with the reality that his own team calls a game which makes him a non factor.

I'm not saying the play calling was great, but does the Ravens get any credit in this equation? It's not like they were showing replays of open recievers all over the field that Sanchez decided not to throw to. I'm thinking that the Jets expected to run the ball and even though it wasn't working they really never abandoned the gameplan. Also they could call every pass play in the world, if guys don't get open what's a QB supposed to do? Sanchez wasn't good, but this debacle wasn't entirely his fault.

What did he do wrong in the last two drives? He made the throws to Cotchery and Keller. They blew it. Not Sanchez.

Did you watch the game?

No one is calling him the next Joe Montana, but come on. All of the sudden he's a half empty type person that has stopped competing because the Jets lost the 1st game of a 16 game season by one point to the Ravens?

Wow, this is so goddamn ridiculous it's scary. He made plenty of plays in the playoffs last year. And it wouldn't have been 'least significant' if Schotty's dumbass chickens-without-heads shifts hadn't cost a penalty.

In my humble and non-partisan opinion, the problem with the Jets is Rex Ryan and the karma he exudes.

Cannon Shell 09-16-2010 11:12 AM

Mark Sanchez was the 28th rated QB in football last year. He is 29th after 1game. I have no idea why anyone thinks he can suddenly develop into a good QB.

It is obvious that opposing defenses are going to stack the line, blitz like crazy and force sanchez to beat them. What puzzled me the most about that game was the jets only giving the ball to greene 5 times. I understand that he had a bad fumble but still. What happens when LT goes down as he invariably will do? The Jets d will win them some games on their own especially if they can put a lot of pressure on the QB. But anyone who watched that offensive performance has to wonder what the hell the game plan was?

the game plan was simple , play not to lose. the left guard cannot pass block , the jets don't trust sanchez to throw the ball down the field yet

greene could turn it around this week though chuck as im not sold on the pat d

this is a must win for the jets this week , with a tough road game in miami next week on the horizon

I agree with this. It's one thing to make a point in the preseason by sitting someone after a fumble, but in the regular season in a one-possession game, sitting a guy solely because of a fumble is goddamn moronic. Tomlinson has been surprisingly (not to me) good so far, but Greene is clearly the better of the two and needs 15+ carries every game.

They lost by a freakin point to one of the favorites to go to the Super Bowl.
By some miracle and they pulled that game out on the last drive, would you still be so gloom and doom? Probably not.
Why don't you wait for at least week 2  to sound the panic alarm.

Don't bother Matt. You'll never convince guys like him not to be miserable, but your efforts are valiant.

This is great in theory. The only problem is he won't be facing the Ravens defense every week.

declansharbor 09-16-2010 05:04 PM

Jets offense will hit it's stride when they get Holmes back. He'll alleviate some of the pressures that the other clown a$$ wideouts and a few stiff linemen are putting on Sanchez' shoulders. The thing they need most though, is to face a defense not named Baltimore.

That said, the offensive gameplan for MNF was a joke, at best.

I know this is a longshot theory but Greene was virtually non-existant on the Hard Knocks show and then gets 5 carries in a game where you knew they would have to run the ball. Is it possible that he has some injury issue and they are keeping it quiet?

Sure the Ravens are a tough defense but the Jets were beyond bad on offense. Last season they were ranked 20th in yards per game and 17th in points scored. And the points per is overstated since they scored 37 on Cincy in the laydown game at the end of the season. They lost 2 games they should have won because they couldn't do anything on offense (Buffalo and Atlanta both at home).

When you are playing low scoring games turnovers will hurt even worse and they have to turn Sanchez loose because they cant beat many teams with 71 passing yards. Of course doing so will most likely lead to more turnovers...

Of course I am hoping the Jets continue to lose but everyone seems to forget that they were 11-8 last year and 2 of the wins were laydown games. I have a lot of respect for the defense but they are going to have to put some points on board in addition to shutting down the other team.

You're right, that guy totally sucks. Right now, anybody but Brian Schottenheimer would be the savior.

He may not suck but a savior? He is probably the 30th best WR in football which is nice but he doesn't scare anyone.

Army calls more a more agressive passing game than Schottenheimer did monday.

Let me put it another way. I'd be a lot more concerned if they lost because the defense gave up 30 points. They didn't.

Everyone knew the weak point of the Jets is their offense. It would be almost impossible for them not to improve off the first game offensively. I don't think it's possible for the unit as a whole to play worse.

The Indomitable DrugS 09-16-2010 08:52 PM

The Jets only turned the ball over once on offense - the defense was there all game long - and the special teams played outstanding.

They played the Ravens to a stalemate in my eyes with the home field advantage and without their best reciever. They deserved to lose because they played a little more sloppy... but, as Denny Green would say, the Jets are who we thought they were.

I think there going to lose another hard fought home game this week - but they'll still be a factor down the stretch.

Whats the score this weekend? Pats 34 Jets 13? Very likely, sad thing is you know it, but you will fight it because you cant help yourself. English enough? Fat jokes and attacks on my typing = LAME
Come back with something solid? You cant on this one, THE JETS HAVE THE WORSE OFFENSE IN THE NFL. Hands down, I think a young offense like KC would go crazy on them. They would be hard pressed to compete with anyone right now. Lets see how good they stop the run the rest of the year with this big injury...
