My sympathies, Steve. It sounds like your mom was an extraordinary human being, and I'm glad you had so many years with her (I lost my mom when I was young and wish I could have known her when I was an adult). They're never enough years after they're over, but I think grief is the tribute to the wonderful miracle of a human being that could inspire so much love from the people around her. May we all be so lucky to be so loved in our lives.

DTers,

I'm hard pressed to appropriately convey my appreciation for your overwhelming kindness and boundless support as contained here. It's heartening to me that so many of you actually met her and were treated to a glimpse of her singularly dynamic persona. She was an irrepressible force.

As sick as she was for these 13 years, and despite knowing the final outcome well in advance, it's difficult facing my mother's absence. As I said graveside Sunday, and as beautifully related by Spider, my mother is largely responsible for who I am in life, and I'm forever grateful to her for that alone.

The fact that we were so similar inhibited our relationship for an extended period, but ultimately served to facilitate a mutual love, respect and admiration. I'll miss her terribly but will remain buoyed by what has been an incredibly moving response to her passing from so many here and in so many aspects of my life.

So as always, and for 'bakeshopglo', thank you.
Steve

I must blame the lateness of my condolences on the fact than I am currently at my parents' house, hoping that I will not become the next one to need such messages. Mom has improved somewhat since I last saw her, but is still bed-bound and we must worry about pneumonia developing; she is so frail.

Oaklawnfan 08-26-2009 10:47 AM

Steve I am so sorry for your loss. No matter what the conditions are, it's so hard to say goodbye to your loved one. My prayers and condolences for you, your family and friends.

yea Steve, I also lost my mother too early to a chronic illness. With an illness, you may feel totally prepared for the inevitable and be relatively emotionless, and then one day it all hits you and you sob uncontrollably. It can be difficult.
