Jesse Helms, a vile, hate-filled, obstructionist faux 'patriot' is dead. Sickeningly being mentioned with Adams and Jefferson because he died on the 4th. Adams and Jefferson would spit in his face for the disgusting manner in which Helms conducted himself in his years of 'public service'. An embarrassment to North Carolina for 40 years.

Can't believe people disagree with this. It's like saying sticks of chalk aren't hard. I can see it now: "Actually, it is a well-known scientific fact that chalk sticks are relatively soft."

If you want your daughter to marry(or not marry) someone of a specific race, then you are a racist. It's not cool to want to have your daughter marry a person of a specific race. By definition, that's racism. Somehow Rupert doesn't think it's wrong to want a daughter to marry only someone of her own race. What kind of fkd up conservative thought gymnastics is that? That is exactly what racism is. It doesn't get excused just because so many people think that way. There are just a lot of racists. That's all it means. If well over 50% of Americans are racists, then that's just a fact. There are some countries where 99.99% of people are racist.

Hard to be really sad or respectful after the death of a shockingly hateful, racist, anti-gay, neanderthal-thinking in longing for the return of the good-ol' 1850s, son of a bitch like Helms.

Oh well.

Well, I've never celebrated anyone's death and won't start now, but silencing a voice that advocated pretty much everything I despise...I can't help but think that's an ok thing. Defending Mr Helm's is sorta like talking about the trains running on time in fascist Italy or saying Adolph was kind to Eva, I suppose Stalin had this dog that he loved...nobody is 100% evil or pure, you can always make a case for/against anyone if it means that much to you...my question has to be "why"? (and no, before the question is asked, I'm not comparing Helm's actions to the above, just using them as an analogy). As others have stated, Helms never backed away from his views, they are there for the world to see/read...you either agree with him or not...and no amount of black staffers or adopted children changes his legacy.

it not clear to me what all of the hatred is about, and nobody really says what it is specifically, its just that he should be hated. everyone says it should be clear, to me its not clear at all what he did or said that should be so despised. of course I stand to be labeled a racist lunatic for saying that, but i call it like i see it. not saying i stand toe to toe with every single one of his social positions, but frankly he was a effective leader in a group that often is shown to be quite spineless.

There's an old Armenian proverb that says it is bad luck to speak ill of the dead.

Maybe you could move back to NC and run for office.

Some people say one man cannot cause change. Others say that is the only way it happens.

As an aside, if you are looking to read more about other racially based career politicians, take a close look at Obama's chief political starategist, David Axelrod, poverty pimp extrordinaire.

I can only hope that when I die, the things that I've said that are about 0.5% as awful as every other word out of that stupid bigot's mouth will be as kindly whitewashed (so to speak....) by those who are so eager to do so for Mr. Helms.

I find no joy, as it may be, in anyone's death, but God knows that this world can only be a better place without his filth in it.

"There is not one single case of AIDS in this country that cannot be traced in origin to sodomy."

"I've been portrayed as a caveman by some. That's not true. I'm a conservative progressive, and that means I think all men are equal, be they slants, beaners or niggers."

"I've never heard once in this chamber anybody say to thehomosexuals, 'stop what you're doing.' If they would stop what they're doing there would not be one additional case of AIDS in the United States."

"To rob the Negro of his reputation of thinking through a problem in his own fashion is about the same as trying to pretend that he doesn't have a natural instinct for rhythm and for singing and dancing."

"The Negro cannot count forever on the kind of restraint that's thus far left him free to clog the streets, disrupt traffic, and interfere with other men's rights."

A few of John Gotti's acquaintances might disagree with you.

But then who doesn't.

geeker2 07-07-2008 03:54 PM

Just a point of order..

If you say negative things about Homosexuals and wish them Aids..that actually isn't racism correct?

Isn't that just good old fashion hatred? or how do you classify that?

Oh no, those aren't racist. He had plenty of hate to go around. It really was remarkable how one single person could possibly have so much to offer.

Oooh.. Convenient proverb.. Can't I just get some jajek and more lavosh instead?

I usually stay out of this arena, something I decided years ago at ESPN when Repent was looking to turn me into the FBI for my socialist leanings. I have no idea what your point is above and couldn't care less about Obama and David Axelrod. My interest in the election is nil.

Helms spoke ill of the living. Find us a proverb for that.

To suggest someone else show a positive characteristic without having an iota or two of it yourself is completely classless.

Shame shame.

Sure did. But don't worry, plenty of folks will have you gloss over this to point out that he did one positive thing for kids in Africa after decades of doing his part to marginalize Blacks and gays.

People love someone who has the balls to say what they're thinking, what can you say?

It's all just so crazy to me. It's not to imply that I think that AJim is a bigot or a closet fan of nasty bigots, he's a great guy, I just don't get it.

I could see when Falwell died. He was also a huge a$shole about plenty of things, but I could at least see the redemptive value that what he was saying had to some people, but those people were ultra-conservative Christians. While I still think he was as vile and as un-Christian as a loudmouth, public Christian could possibly be, I could at least figure out why some people bought into his $hit.

This guy, on the other hand, had nothing to offer outside of being a hateful a$shole for being a hateful a$shole's sake. It should be literally impossible for anyone with even the slightest connection to reality to be able to defend him.

There is now, officially, viewable proof that I do not wear mascara on a regular basis.

You ever spend much time in the south? Not Atlanta, not Charlotte. I mean mid size cities and smaller towns.

It is different. That is how guys like Helms, Strom Thurmond and Robert Byrd got elected.

Byrd was head of his Ku Klux Klan office. His title was The Exalted Cyclops. No sh1t.

It is a different world.
