Arsenic and Old Lace Treasure of Siera Madre Deer Hunter Cool Hand Luke Once Upon A Time in America Young Frankenstein Amadeus Private Ryan Platoon It was very hard leaving some out...in fact there may be some I enter over some here ...later. I was really vexed over leaving out Friday the 13th.....the 56th Final Chapter....but something had to go. |
didn't see any new releases this year, but really had wanted to see No Country For Old Men. To me Bardem is a big talent
I stumbled on a classic this year, Idiocracy. I had never heard about it and caught it on cable one night just because it was by Mike Judge. I don't remember when I laughed so hard. my current top 10 The Godfathers 1 and 2 The Grapes of Wrath It's a Wonderful Life American Graffiti The Big Lebowski The Straight Story 2001 a Space Odyssey The Elephant Man One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest Chariots Of Fire |

All these lists are a matter of personal choice of course, the Godfather appears frequently when folks make such lists...probably the one movie(s) that most can agree on! One of the first lists that I've actually seen every one...the only movie that I have problems with is The Big Lebowski, my friend brought the DVD over one night and we watched it...he loves it, me...well, not so much! Again, personal taste but I simply don't get it...all those times we were stoned in the 60's, to think we could have made a movie... I'm a TV-first guy of course, think that movies simply can't compare to a good TV show but I suspect most feel differently. |

Thank you so much. PI was made in 1929 with Gary Cooper. I believe it was the first time Hollywood revealed it was expreimenting with hallucinogens. |

Thank you warp nose. Abrams really stole it ...I thought. He was great as he usually is. I received great inspiration from this film and incorporate it into my fine work. (Eskeemo rub.) |
I think the best movie of the year this year was clearly The Diving Bell and the Butterfly. If you can't tolerate subtitles you might not like it, but it is truly a brilliant film. The guy that directed it (Julian Schnabel) won the Golden Globe and is nominated for an Oscar. They'll probably give it to some clown that directed a movie that got more hype, but he deserves it.

I should say my disdain for "modern" theaters keeps me away form seeing new releases. The Colony here closed a few years ago and stole my delight for those great 2500 seat with balcony and big screen edifices. It was the last one standing.
I should have been born back in the early part of last century. How can something that ruins everything be called progr$ss? |

Great movie.....however I think many would refer to Schnabel as you referenced the others. Though, I am guessing it would be harsher than clown. |

He also directed Before Night Falls with Javiar Bardem which is very good. He's a terrific director. |

Well...now don't get me wrong---you are correct here.....but the lack of any fluid storyline whatsoever is the thing that held it back. |

It's always watching Tom Hanks as someone. I never believe him. Before Night Falls was a great film. |
Saving Private Ryan?
Please Morty. The original Planet of the Apes is better. Spielberg lost me after Jaws and Close Encounters. I do love Close Encounters. By the way, I would add Stolen Kisses to my list. It's a great movie. |

Not among my favorite actors, but I can't dispute how good he is. I have never heard of BNF. |
You would like Before Night Falls.

My favorite Truffaut is Day for Night. The Last Metro was good too. I can't remember Jules and Jim..... saw it way too long ago. |
