Gets me through...thanks guys for testing my meddle. I needed it severly on that one. And don't ask me why I was fixated on the first race...I couldn't tell you.

SCUDSBROTHER 03-09-2007 03:54 PM

Sometimes the short field thing is a little overrated.About a year an a half ago,I got knocked out in a 4 horse race.It was gunna be a 5 horse race (with 3 pace types.) So,Dutrow has 2 horses in there, and I used the rater of the 2(decent rater..atleast at one time..called Nebraska Moon.)At the last minute, the other Dutrow horse got scratched(I think at the gate,) and it was then a 4 horse race(2 speed horses, and 2 raters.)The 2 speed horses had a manlove agreement up front, and so it came down to which of the 2 raters was gunna get 3rd.Lost that little battle by about 3/4 of a length. You can get kicked out...any race...short field won't always save ya.

jman5581 03-09-2007 04:46 PM

I agree with you, it depends on the field and some things out of your control. Well, today is shaping up to be pretty productive. I knew it was going to be a tougher day than yesterday.

jman5581 03-10-2007 02:25 PM

desert code...41% of contestants have that one today, me included.

rontheman1964 03-10-2007 05:54 PM

In the Woods......and onward we go.....

jman5581 03-11-2007 10:21 AM

narrowing it down for today, either french souvenir, ymustichasedacat, or chocolate lava... I'm inclined to take FS even though I have YMICC selected at the moment.

jman5581 03-11-2007 11:16 AM

nothing but the dog in me...but, I'm going with Chocolate. again, staying out of the way of the crowd in a relatively small field. Good luck to all.

ArlJim78 03-11-2007 11:20 AM

Good luck to all the DT people still alive. How many of you are there anyway?
Is it just Jman and rontheman?

well, we can't both be "the man"... good luck ron. :)

Actually, based on last time, I figure if either of us are going to win it we're only about half way home...this is the proverbial "turn towards home."

rontheman1964 03-11-2007 12:55 PM

Jman, we need a heavy favorite to be off the board and pare down the remaining entrants. Of course, hopefully we aren't on that particular fav...hahaha (Maybe Rags to Riches today??) I like the small field theory. Especially if you can find a speed horse who can cut some easy fractions. Anyway, good luck to you also. This thing isn't close to being finished the way we are going right now.

Pedigree Ann 03-11-2007 01:00 PM

Still so mad about the slipped saddle that knocked me out. It's not that I picked a bad runner - she nearly made third despite everything. Still contend it was sabotage.<grin>

rontheman1964 03-11-2007 02:46 PM

Chocolate Lava closed out the week for me. Did anyone see Magnificience? WOW, what a race she ran after getting left at the gate.

I just started a separate thread on it. Unreal!

jman5581 03-11-2007 04:22 PM

At least we're making some progress today with all the people that picked John the Maitre D. Glad I stayed off of French Souvenir!

I guess people didn't notice that Johnny-boy had never even hit the board at Santa Anita. I really liked Ymustichasethecat in this race in this one, singled him in a pick 3, which I blew later on. Sigh.

Brad Free had Johnny Maitre D picked I think...I can't see any other reason why 10% of contestants would have picked him...made little sense!

rontheman1964 03-12-2007 06:27 PM

Tale of the Scale is in the 2nd race Wed.....FYI he was the winning horse in Showvivor #1. He ran third and the other 2 people took the same horse who was off the board.:D

jman5581 03-12-2007 08:04 PM

Ellis has Theverythoughtof U in the 3rd tomorrow.

PPerfectfan 03-12-2007 11:15 PM

Congrats to all of you guys still in. That is pretty amazing. You can do it!!!! :D

Seriously, this horse is gunna have to get hurt,or knocked down(to run off the board.)Even if she clipps hills, and stuck behind horses, she may get up for 3rd.

rontheman1964 03-13-2007 11:37 PM

I may use Jungle Girl in the 2nd race. A class dropper loose on the lead....looks good to me. Hey, why is the track listed inder my name "Sam Houston?" I typed Lone Star Park at first and have recently changed it to AkSarBen. Does anyone know how to update it in my profile? I have never even bet a race at Sam Houston.

jman5581 03-14-2007 08:34 AM

That race, although it is a short field, looked too risky for me. That Jungle Girl will probably get the lead but I worry about getting used up and having nothing left, especially since she's showed no ability to "run away" with one in the past.

I think Theverythoughtof U is well placed. Typical Ellis, should win, I think the odds of hitting the board are about 75-80% (considering racing luck, injury etc), I'll take that. I think a lot of people will pick that one, so I guess I'm going with the crowd today.

Lemon Law was another one I considered, but decided to go with TVTofU.

jman5581 03-14-2007 12:24 PM

Well, I was really comfortable with my selection today until I just noticed Brad Free gave it the curse. I've got some pretty strong opinions about race 7 going 1 and a quarter on the lawn.

jman5581 03-14-2007 06:28 PM

I don't believe anyone has been eliminated today. As Chris Tucker would say, "Daaaaaaaaamn!!":)

Ellis has been way off this meet, but this takes the cake.No way that filly should have been out there.Totally unprepared to run.Same for Datticus, and multiple times with Declan's Moon.He must have lost a key person in his barn.He better find somebody who knows what they are doing.Been a good trainer for a while now,but I have never seen him send so many flops out there.WTF is going on there? Better clean up his act,or the Fat Lady that owns JMS is gunna have to get somebody who knows that the horses atleast aren't gunna embarass her.

jman5581 03-15-2007 07:53 AM

I didn't get to see the race, just the last few strides on the workout cam.

I like California Sky today in the first. In the second, Bit of Folly should get a piece of the money after a "freshening" but Barynya is the chalk.

Ron, we've come too far to go out in the 13th round.

i think Fete is going to be the most selected today, anybody else agree?

LP3 and Siegel were discusssing yesterday how some of the "top" trainers %'s have been down this meet. They attributed it to field size.... a lot of the guys that normally are up around 15-20% are down in the 9-10% range.

That isn't the reason Ellis' percentage is down.He is sending horses out there that have no gas in the tank. That filly had nothing yesterday.Incredibly hard work to get 3rd.Seems like his wins at the meet have been from claims that he rested for a month or two,and then dropped down to get a win with.It wasn't that long ago that he was winning like at well over 50% clip at a Del Mar meet. No,this is weird. He has sent D. Moon out there with nothing.Sent Datticus out there (twice) with nothing.Sent this filly out there yesterday with nothing. This is highly atypical for this barn.

jman5581 03-15-2007 11:55 AM

well hopefuly California Sky has a little gas in the tank for Doug O'Neill...just happy to get by yesterday having selected the chalk with 48% of contestants. Could have been ugly...

jman5581 03-15-2007 02:01 PM

Screw it, I'm going with the Frankel horse in the 2nd race.

jman5581 03-15-2007 05:56 PM

who all's still alive? Ron, you alive??

ArlJim78 03-15-2007 06:09 PM

are both of "the men" alive today?

rontheman1964 03-15-2007 06:26 PM

yep, still alive....had the Frankel / Gomez horse in the 2nd.....my ranking has dropped to #86....haven't had a winner for about 3 days...:D ......gonna be out of town for the weekend....hafta see if i can get internet access and stay alive....

ArlJim78 03-15-2007 07:04 PM

Good deal! Frankel looks to have a sure thing in the second tomorrow, Price Tag.

jman5581 03-15-2007 09:54 PM

alive, had that same horse, Barynya ("buryin' ya"):) or however you say it.

2/5 ML

jman5581 03-16-2007 11:32 AM

Looking over the card, I would have to be dumb to try to beat either Price Tag or Idiot Proof, so I'll take the turfstress in the 2nd, Price Tag, to stay alive in Round 14. Ron, good luck to us this weekend. 142 players remaining...

nwaryas 03-16-2007 11:47 AM

Always look for the Sadler (hot trainer)/Gomez connections. This duo has been hot.

jman5581 03-16-2007 02:54 PM

60% of showvivors are hanging their hopes on PRICE TAG....I'm with the crowd.
35% Idiot Proof
