Well said :)

Suzanne Vega's "Luka" never uses the words parent, child, or abuse, and it is unequivocally about a set of parents abusing their child.

Repent, your notion of how songwriting works is inherently flawed in insinuating that a song cannot be about something if that word is not literally in it.

Alanis Morissettes famous "You Oughta Know" is about an ex-boyfriend. It never, in the lyrics, says ex-boyfriend -- but any non-deaf nitwit could figure that out.

Need I continue?

wow, now that i think about it -- this may be the ONE topic on which i am the board expert :D

Well congratulations then!:)

dixie is still far in the lead in terms of being the board expert in the most categories. They're too numerous for me to even try to list, but I'll bet DaHoss could give it a good whirl. Track bias is a given.

And was Puff the Magic Dragon just a children's song??

well ya know, when many have been in the racing game for longer than i've been alive -- there is a modicum of humility on the big issues.

so i'll take what i can get. if songwriting is the one thing i can claim -- you better believe i'm going to claim it.

....since track bias is already taken.

Hey, everyone has to find where they fit in and stake their claim.

I'm still looking for my place. I was striving for expert in the ways of sarcastic responses but the competition around here in that category is super tough. I've yet to crack the top five. :D

You speak the truth. This forum is drenched in sarcasm every hour of the day -- and has some people who are really damn good at it too!

I dont even need to look at the lyrics to know that.
never mentions the word "father" at all.

Because you aren't clever or smart enough to understand even the most simplistic of lyrics, geez dude " rearviewmirror " is as simple as it gets, you then resort to 3rd grade insults?

Pretty sad.

The funny thing is you are theoretically mocking someone for hanging out in a chat room....while YOU are in a chat room!!!!!!

has nothing to do with cleverness or smarts.
just not arrogant enough to read something into someone else's words.
they may be in fact talking about an abusive father, but there is certainly nothing in the lyrics that conclusively states that.

and there is a big difference btwn an internet horse racing forum and a band chat room.
not even close to the same thing.
have fun weirdo.

Not a bad idea, at the rates he is pulling down for what he does, I should be begging him to mentor me in his ways. I wouldn't mind sitting in the press box at Staples Center or the Polo Lounge in Beverly Hills, at even one third of his rate.

you're still just mad about the disparaging comments i've made about your handicapping in the 'week 3' thread :p

if you majored in music then you'd probably get me on the technical side of composition -- though i'm standing firm on the songwriting thing.

Shall there be a duel?

I only kept it as my major for a year...so technically I am not real strong...had a scholarship to a music school in boston but they couldn't get me any housing...so I switched to my other love, the ponies...I was just giving you sh*t:p

Darn.

The more I thought about it, the more I was looking forward to the songwriting duel.

Ho-hum, another time, another place perhaps.
