yeah, the problem is these old school guys like Mal and Paul Jr. are playing in a whole new ball game~ and that's why they brought in Chuck Neinas, who should be fired immediately BTW they need a good PR firm, and to sue ESPN & the Miami Herald for reporting false and damaging information I hope Pratville whips Hoover if it's Probst, I'm walking downtown and leaping off one of the bridges |
Rich Rodriguez never intended on leaving WVU. Alabama is an attractive job for someone that is trying to make a name for themselves and granted there is quite a storied past. But if the people there think they can just throw out the ole Roll Tide and people are going to jump, they are sadly mistaken. There is no reason at all for any of the people mentioned as potential candidates to take this job. All they need to do is look at the attrition rate over the last 7 years to understand that there is absolutely no loyalty when it comes to being the head football coach there. Maybe if you pull off 11/1 or so in you first year, but that's about it. There was mention that RR broke a gentlemen's agreement earlier in this thread. I find that almost laughable. I wonder how many agreements were broken by the boosters and administrators when they sat down over the last 7 years and decided that the coach at the time wasn't the second coming afterall.

We should make ESPN happy and hire a black coach. Ken Norton Jr. would be an excellent hire. Sure he lacks experience but he's done an excellent job as linebackers coach at USC. I imagine he could be a heck of a recruiter considering the Super Bowl rings he could flaunt. |
ozzie newsome is "supposed" to be feeling out the nfl for coaches. everyone figures ozzie as the next AD at Bama when Coach Moore finally retires. i would think that after this Coach Moore will be ready to get out.
between ozzie and the Bama nfl alums seems like someone else would ahve popped up by now. Mike Sherman has thrown his hat in the ring publicly, not sure how i feel about that one. Bama's not that hard to recruit for. Bama owns the state whether the barners like it or not. all they need is the couple kids from GA, TX, FLA, La. to finish out the rooster. Bama will sell it's self. the kids are instant "rock stars" the first visit to campus the they are asked for the autograph. the facilites are FIRST class. they are nfl facilites not as good as Bama's. what i see as the problem is coaches don't want to have to coach in the SEC. face the facts week in and week out is a street brawl. if you can win 10 games every couple years or make arun at the NC every couples years you can be KING at Bama. it can bedone and fairly quick..... Bama is close to being Back, with the right coach to lead the way. |
i think a lot of coaches show interest in a supposed better situation just to get a bigger offer at home. hell, who wants to pack and move? not me. spurrier had a rumor started that he might be interested in florida, not sure he was the one who started it of course.... but he quickly quashed it and ended up 500k richer a year, and guaranteed salary thru '12.
wvu has been higher up in the last few years than 'bama, he wouldn't necessarily be improving his situation--while the stakes would be much higher than where he is now, much like spurrier said about the 'canes. |

WV plays in the Big East! all 9 SEC bowl teams could have finished 10-2 with WV's schedule |

as for where alabama and wv play, has nothing to do with which would be 'better'. wvu has been in contention the last few years. bama wants to be, and has quite a storied history. BUT right now they are viewed as being very high risk, and possibly not high return. there is no patience down there for a coach to come in, recruit and build a program. especially considering sanctions they've had, which hurt recruitment. the merry go round of coaches here the last few years has hurt recruitment as well. i think shula did pretty well considering everything he took on. and now they have a huge question mark again.
as for bama owing recruits in alabama, i think auburn might disagree. |

jimbo fisher was offered the OC job at fsu already. he's playing the waiting game to see how things fall out. he wanted to go home to wv IF CRR took the Bama job.

i'll ask you guys this question.
would rather coach in the big east and win 8-9-10 games a year and an automatic BCS bowl bid OR have to coach a SEC street fight each week? IF you can win 10-11 games you play for the NC. |
