I thought the post about the horse mr president was as about as funny as one could get, it linked racing, with current politics and the latest gossip , which is by the way americas number one industry, gossip..i really expected more positive thoughts on the humor..oh well maybe i'll wallow in the sour grapes of defeat like all the demoncraps

[1] There appears to be absolutely no interest in broadcasting this race as it has very limited national appeal despite the Chrome vs. Arrogate rematch. We are one week out from the race and I have not seen anything on NBC or any other national network discussing the race. TVG has provided some coverage.

[2] According to what I read this morning, gate admission to Gulfstream is $100.00 per person on Pegasus day not to mention parking passes $50.00) and all of the other up-charges. What is the expected attendance for that type of gate charge? Will Gulfstream attract over or under 12,000 people for that kind of money? Personally, I would go under.

[3] If your entry finishes third or worse, completely possible given the field structure, how quickly are you ready to fire another speculative million at the pot for next year? (Maybe there are outfits lined up to kick in their $1,000,000? Who are they?)

[4] Wait until the post position draw this week. Put both Arrogate and Chrome in the ten, eleven, or twelve posts and your marquee match-up suddenly is upended. Worse, put only one of them in the outside slots.

I guess people are willing to pay those kind of prices for other sporting events or rock concerts but I agree with you and can't see them breaking the gates down to get in. Will be a lot of so called "celebs" attending on their free tickets.

Horrific draw for California Chrome. Going 9F at GP from the 12 hole is a death sentence. Tough break.

Is this the excuse?

It is a very real excuse....and exactly the one you would be using for Arrogate had the post positions been reversed.

Stats don't lie. If it's not an issue then they should put 10lbs on Arrogate.

Well, look at this outcome. Can Chrome be any better than four or five wide in that first turn if pressing towards the top? Alternatively, can the horse close from ten lengths off the pace if they decide not to leave with him?

Not a handicap race - my original point in this entire thread!

Completely agree, Andy, and exactly why I wanted this race to go at 10f (even close to 11f based on the track) to get rid of the post position bias.

declansharbor 01-23-2017 06:43 PM

About what % of Eclipse Award ceremony attendees do you think were elated when the post was drawn after having to endure P Martin's whacky speech?! They're really going to have to earn it from out that far wide, that's for sure (CC & DAP Racing) !

Hoss likes to be outside of hosses, shouldn't be a problem. Arrogate is the main problem, keen ice is the other problem. He will take some beating for sure.

I just got this reply from Secretriat!

Not Dr. Fagre or Spectaculer Bid or Seebiscuit or Roughian, but the great SECRETRIAT!

cakes44 01-23-2017 08:06 PM

Does Chrome still go favored?

This just seems like a perfect opportunity to double my money because of a sentimental favorite. Any chance in the world at Arrogate going 6/5?

Keen Ice? And you were serious? :D

Alabama Stakes 01-23-2017 10:39 PM

I meant that chrome would take some beating. Should have worded that better.
Keen ice is contender on best effort.....like when he won the Travers.
