Actually, I borrowed the line from a song, substituting Rapid Redux for Edmund Hillary.

yeah, but you're talking about rockhardten, he's been banned from this board more times than pval has been banned from riding.

A Rapid Redux VS Drosselmeyer match race at 8.5 furlongs...

If I owned either horse -- I'd take that silly match-race in a heartbeat.

You could promote it like a boxing match... The current all-time win streak king VS the last out Breeders Cup Classic winner.

and RR would have such a huge pace advantage that it would certainly be a very interesting looking race turning for home... Drosselmeyer is so poorly suited to a match race and Rapid Redux would certainly be able to run a 90+ Beyer with no early and middle pressure.

Get some slots track in the Mid-Atlantic to put up a six figure purse... as brutal as these Eclipse voters are ... the winner of this silly event might be able to steal Champion Older Male.

I can understand being caught up in the moment of losing a bet in a race and making the comment that a particular jock should be shot...Hell, I am guilty of that. But to make a comment that a race caller (someone that has no outcome in a race)should be shot...I just don't get it.

But, then again, I am completely biased towards Peter and Mountaineer Park. I am a big fan of both.

If you're the connections of Drosselmeyer, what would be the incentive for this? It's a lose/lose regardless of the outcome.

If you lose the race, you lost to a vastly inferior horse. If you win, you beat a vastly inferior horse. Trust me, there is no glory for beating a terribly outclassed opponent.

I think it would be a fun match-up -- and it would give the sport some attention during the most dull racing month of the year... December.

As for incentive for Drosselmeyer's connections -- Drosselmeyer has twice competed in ungraded 60K stakes this year -- a six figure purse to race against a 5k starter horse in a race that is good for the sport -- against a horse some writers have already said they would vote Horse of the Year.

The eclipse vote for champion older male is going to be split so thin between horses like Acclimation, Tizway, Flat Out, Cape Blanco, Game On Dude, and others ... Drosselmeyer would probably steal all the Rapid Redux votes.

Rapid Redux has run 9 furlongs at Charles Town three times -- he's run Beyers of 92, 88, and 91 with his rider wrapped up turning for home each time.

Game On Dude and Tizway -- perhaps the two best older dirt horses from start to finish this year -- both ran 97 Beyers at Charles Town going 9fs when 2nd and 3rd in the $1,000,000 stake.

Drosselmeyer has made 12 career starts at a distance of 9.5 furlongs or less and he's never run a Beyer higher than 92. He's horribly suited for a match race because of his running style.

I think Rapid Redux VS Drosselmeyer going 9fs at Charles Town would be fun to watch. RR would have a genuine chance in that race... especially because a lot of shippers into CT don't fire.

It's mental masturbation to even talk about the race -- but it would be fun to watch. I know I'd like to see it.

Not sure how much he's going to be standing for, but don't you think it would be considerably less if he should lose to RR? At least they have the BC Classic to hang their hat on now, I would think the price would drop based on a loss in a gimmick race to a glorified 20k claimer.

It will never happen, but if it did, my money would be on RR.

I suppose.

After watching this race, however, his stud fee should be minus $5,000 ...

It's a replay of Drosselmeyer getting dusted by Colizeo going 8.5fs at Tampa Bay Downs.

Attention from who? No one outside of racing fans would care and I question if racing fans would even care.

Drosselmeyer as a sire will never be worth more than he is now due to the Classic win. It's not like his owners need a six figure purse. If he gets beat by Rapid Redux, I would imagine that would be bad for business for his owners.

If a writer is voting for Rapid Redux for HOY, they should have their vote taken away.

The 20 wins in a row VS last out BC Classic winner sales pitch won't do a damn thing for me ... but a chance to watch Drosselmeyer struggle with a good nickle starter horse would be priceless.

Race calling

I didn't see anything wrong with your call. I enjoyed your enthusiasm.

I just was hoping to get the PP/Zen reference to the filly... looking back at my post, I did call you a tool - that was unfair and unwarranted - I don't even know you.... My apologies & keep up the great work.

Before he was known for training Rapid Redux:

Rapid Redux is 18-for-18 this year -- and 2-for-2 last December ... so, this 20 race win streak with a former 5K claimer was achieved in less than one year time.

Calzone Lord 11-22-2011 01:25 PM

Here's a great win streak from a horse who shipped all over... and certainly had more super fast races over his career than Secretariat, Seattle Slew, and Man O' War combined.
