so do you believe in hell? i find the concept of hell to be so evil and horrible, I dont know why any God (big G or little g) would create something like it. what are the requirements to stay out of the place? If you are one of the most generous people on the planet, and always look to do what is right, but you are an athiest, does that mean you burn for eternity? its just not something I can bring myself to support.

i agree... the one thing, as it related to Michelle Bachmann, is that I do not want my political leaders to base their policies off beliefs in higher powers. Because there are no right or wrong answers, and look how much bad has come of religious based policy - "God willed me to do it" -crusades

I agree with this when focusing only on the religious right (which I think is just a very very minor part of religion).


but as far as organized religion in general... I think it has more to do with not wanting to deal with your own mortality than it does wanting to tell others how to live. People dont want to die and be done, with heaven, you get a different option. It's comforting.

It can be a crutch for those who choose to be weak-minded, but those who choose to contemplate the big questions and things that are infinite by definition are normally open minded.

I do try to be. Of course like many here, on the subject of politics I tend to have made my mind up with what I have observed so far in life. I do reserve the right to change my opinions as my conclusions and experiences change.

I find that very revealing and truthful, in the end we are all products of our life's experiences. I know my rather extreme political positions come from my own experiences. A person who has firm religious beliefs yet is able to remain open to the beliefs of others is someone that I, for one, respect.

I'm very fiscally conservative (libertarian), and the republicans are so far off from being conservative they shouldnt even use the name.

What we need is to fire every one of them, create a strong 3rd party so there is some sort of balance, and find politicians who actually care about the future of this country. term limits are a must.

that's how i raised my kids. so many 'christians' are some of the most hateful, judgemental, bigoted people you'd ever see. it's amazing.
