Soon, we'll see well-thought of maidens enter these 2-year old BC races, just like they'll occasionally do in 2-yo stakes races at Hollywood, Churchill, Calder and Belmont in the summer.

How many races had Giacomo and Mine that Bird won prior to the Derby? Unaccomplished horses win our classic races on a regular basis so a maiden winning this wouldn't be so horrible.

You'd probably add that horse to your signature.

I must be dense what could be bad about another good race to bet. Isn't this supposed to be fun.

Or even change my user name to that horse's name. You never know.

I have to say, I still wish the BC was one day...I guess I'm the only one left.

I agree. The F&M turf was a good addition IMO.....they should have stopped there. What's next? The Juvy Filly Turf Sprint?

It will probably dilute the talent in the existing BCJ race, just as the BC dirt mile dilutes the talent in both the Sprint and the Classic.

Here's a stat...

While racing handle is, in general, down significantly each of the last five years, handle on the "top 10 races" outside of the Breeders' Cup is up 15% over the same period. Handle on the "top 400 races" is up 3%.

Honestly, I don't know how those races are defined, but I'm presuming it's a compilation of many stakes races compared to previous numbers. Higher quality racing is doing quite well, while the lower end, the day-to-day grinders, aren't cutting the mustard. Racing is oversupplied.

Sounds like you attended a shareholders meeting.

I heard the Breeders' Cup is negotiating to put it's races on the Loony Tunes network.

Nah, count this Pennsylvanian in that camp, too. Maybe it's a mid-Atlantic thing?
