Or shorter answer: absolutely not.

Jeeze, you had to bring it up. How long before we have the Rachel Alexandra stakes at Delaware Park after or if she wins the Obeah?

Seriously, I think you guys should give back the Secretariat Stakes name to NYRA. However with these guys they probably wouldn't know what to do with it, and continue to treat naming races as a geography lesson.

In my opinion I believe they should at least wait til after the horse retires...

How about naming a race called the "15 minutes of Fame"

Name it after Tim Ice and Chip Woolsey

Yes, I "had" to bring it up, because it was the most patently ridiculous way I could think up to try to say that a horse doesn't deserve to have a race named after him.

And I may not follow the "give back" portion above, but hey, what's new?

Revidere 06-04-2010 11:02 AM

They should rename the Lady's Secret.

Now THAT's a good idea! Oh, wait....

I don't think summer birds career warrants a stake named for him. Surprised that easy goer wasn't honored with one

But he won THE NEW YORK TRIPLE!!!!!

Summer bird was the 4th/5th best horse in training last year. It would be absolutely ridiculous to have a stake renamed after him, unless they want to mess with some 60k overnight stake.

If I was a billionaire I would sponsor the Belmont, give them a couple million to add to the purse and make them change the name to the Hank the pony Belmont Stakes.

4th or 5th best horse in training last year? Who was ahead of him may I ask? It's okay you can have your own poll as to whether Rachel can have her own stake named after her, hopefully it will be run right beside prestigious Curlin stakes at Saratoga.

Zenyatta / Rachel Alexandra
Gio Ponti / Summer Bird / Quality Road

Eh.. he could have been as much as the 3rd best horse, or the 5th. that third row is pretty interchangeable.

Tim Ice had something to do with SB fracturing his leg?

I don't know the owners. Care to share?

Did transferring the horse to another trainer had something to with SB retirement?

Did I ever say it did? I made a simple point that it was an arbitrary decision to change trainers with the horse after Ice campaigned the horse to an Eclipse award. I am sorry if it was too difficult for you to understand.

Apparently the owners did not like him for some reason however its thier horse and thier decision to transfer trainers. It wasnt like Tim Richtey was a bad choice either. Also, do you blame Edward P Evans for switching trainers for Quality Road too?

You can disagree if you want, it is a merely an opinion. It doesn't make it odd because you disagree. It was my opinion at the time that a trainer change wouldn't improve a horse who appeared to be running at his highest level with Ice. Steve explained there was more to it after I posted, information I was not privy too. I have now wasted much more time responding to you than it is worth.
