I hate to jinx your selections, Pat, but looking at the notes I made last night, I have a strong feeling that my selections will be very similar. I strongly fancy Mutheeb and Tartan Gigha. I'm going with Naval Officer, too.

Sabotage is also going to be included, I think. He has plenty of stamina and a real nice racing weight.

I will apologise now if these ones run as if they have three legs.

Will post my final selections shortly

Hey Brock...

Because of time limitations (sans pp's  ) I only want to make picks for one race tomorrow... is that alright?

If not, I understand.

If so...

Race 3... Musir, Black Snowflake (alt. Mr. Crazy Boy)

(Not copying Pat either:D ... I've kept track of the 2 De Kock runners on the South Africa thread.and Black Snowflake is an awefully nice horse ) :)

Thursday selections:

R1 - Sovereign Remedy (alt; Abbashiva), Al Arab (alt; Liberation)
R2 - Mutheeb (alt; Gallagher), Stoic (alt; Across The Rhine)
R3 - Musir (alt; Olympic Danz), Fareej (if he runs) (alt; Coeur Loyal)
R4 - Tartan Gigha (NAP) (alt; Aspectus), Soy Libriano (alt; Walzertraum)
R5 - Classic Blade (alt; Awinnersgame), Sir Gerry (alt; Mac Gille Eoin)
R6 - Naval Officer (alt; Front House), Alexandros (alt; Crowded House)
R7 - Sabotage (alt; Age Of Reason), Red Rock Canyon (alt; Montaff)
R8 - Hot Six (alt; Captain Webb), Ask The Butler (alt; King Of Rome)

A couple of races here have taken plenty of guess work. For instance, the sprint looks to me to be the hardest race on the card. I've chosen Classic Blade as my main big, basically on older form, which was very good. The prep run latest looked like some kind of revival, and the best form shown has been when allowed to run close to the pace. An outsider with a big chance in a very open race in my opinion.

Disappointed with the predicted odds of Tartan Gigha, but he's my nap and quite honestly, I think he will win.

Mutheeb is my second best bet on the card, he probably needed his first start for a while last week behind the very impressive (group horse in the making) Leahurst. He showed good form back in the UK and should go very close.

Everybody has been raving about Naval Officer in recent weeks, and if he doesn't win, there will be many sad faces in the Barton camp.

Hot Six is the most interesting horses tomorrow, a regular in Gr1 races recently, those Gr1's that he won probably aren't anything to shout about, but he's shown he useful and with Bary looking to have his string in good form he's of obvious interest in a trappy looking final race, along with Ask The Butler who seems to enjoy running from a layoff and is a battle hardened handicapper at this distance and should give a good account.

Remember lads, 2 carnival days this week - tomorrow and Friday!

MMSC, one selection is ok.

Question: Why do some people pick two alternates? If you only pick one is it understood it takes the place of either of your two picks if they do not run?

their choice really - No Chance picks an alternate for his number 1 and 2 so if the original choice is a scratch, the alternate takes the scratched horses place. With just one alternate, the number 2 choice becomes the number 1 choice and the alternate becomes the number 2 choice. Make sense? Probably not, but its not really a big deal.. you can pick 7 alternates if you wish :)

I'm not really sure why I choose two alternates really. Just something I've always done.

I usually split them up into horses I would have a bigger bet on and horses I'd limit to smaller stakes. If my big bet horse doesn't run, I often don't have much of an opinion on the race and therefore include a bigger priced runner as my main selection alternate, trying to maximise profit in a race I have no longer got a big interest in.

Yes, I spend far too much time studying for this (last week showed it doesn't help), but I want to keep hold of my crown! :D
