people ask who wins at daytona, or indy, or pay attention to the ncaa final game-but not the other 364 days of the year. people hear of sports and know their biggest day, that in no way makes people become fans at any other time of year. if people on here want to make new fans, take your kids. or your young nieces or nephews. the people who cram into new york to maybe see a tc winner are only there to say they saw one (if/when it happens)-it won't make them come back. they've seen what they wanted to see. it's up to fans to continue the sport, to promote it within their own circle. |

Yep The gods have spoken... I don't know about anyone else here but when Big Brown ran up on heels and threw his head on the 1st turn, you just had a premonition that it might not be his day today. Obviously this was not the Big Brown we saw today in the first 2 legs of the triple crown, for a fan the race was really anticlimatic as compared to the other failed TC crownings, I'm not dissapointed he lost I just wish it were done more on merit, that someone took it away from him, as Birdstone had, Empire Maker, Victory Gallop, Touch Gold had all done prior to today. Big Brown basically beat himself.

isn't that why they waited so long to patch it? to let whatever was in there out? surely he had some drainage. i know they said he had a bit of heat in there, so obviously something was going on.
if i remember correctly, it took a couple days after the belmont before they realized bid had an abcess-it was deep in his foot, and they had to drill and drain it. i bet that's what they find here. at any rate, too often people think a horse who has won by many is just so much better and is completely unbeatable, regardless of physical issues, surface questions, etc as we can see, that's not the case. |

It's days like this that make me sick to be a horse owner.
I'm extremely disappointed to see that Ricky didn't realize every horse owners or trainers dream - to win the Triple Crown. It disgusts me to see the crap written about him based on sound bites from the maggot media. It further disgusts me to see the venom spewed by the so called "fans" of the sport who cheer Big Brown's loss. If Cannon were so lucky as to have a tri-crown horse for DT Stable next year, would we be so lucky as to escape the microscope of the doubting fans? Of course not - the media and the "fans" would find something to hate about us. If I can have a $5k claimer that wins an N1X and hear wails of "they must have cheated" when I won.... it can just be a brutal sport no matter what you do. I wanted to see a Triple Crown winner today, I wanted to see my friend win the Triple Crown today, and I wanted to see racing take a step forward today. At the end of the day, I'm left with an empty bag - I haven't felt so disappointed since I dropped a slip on a $32k claimer that fractured a knee, broke down and all I ended up with was an empty halter and a bill to kill the horse after the race..... |
He laid an egg. He got stuffed down on the inside, Dedumbeaux rode him like he would win no matter what, and the horse stunk. A combination of his foot, his jockey, the distance, the 3 races so close together....Today the Belmont was once again the Test of Champions....Unfortunately for UPS, Hooters, Trump, IEAH, and any other chalk eater they get a hamsandwich instead of a Triple Crown
|
how does racing take a step forward with a triple crown winner? will someone explain that?

Belmont is dark tomorrow as NYRA expected low attendance.

thing is, i don't think it's just a 1/4 crack that the horse is feeling/dealing with.
as for the winstrol-i don't know. cannon says that it wouldn't cause such a change in the horses performance. i think dutrow is full of it when he says he doesn't know why he gives it to the horse, or that there's no change when they don't get it. there's a reason to give it. no doubt chuck could tell more about it then me. i really think they'll find an abcess or something along those lines in the next few days. i think there's a deeper issue with his front left, that a qc alone wouldn't explain his loss today-he was a completely different horse. |

How does a Triple Crown not move the game forward? Media attention, horses going to Disney Land, Iavarone on the tonight show and all that other stuff. Of course a Triple Crown would have moved the game forward, so would policing sales, so would no drugs, so will a lot of other things.
