didn't realize teuf got loose, perhaps that was when the injury to the other front leg occurred, trying to compensate for the one. something that sounded really bad now sounds that much worse.

good luck teuflesberg!

Yeah they cut to it for a second at ESPN and for a moment I thought it was the outrider holding on to him, then I realized the reins were loose and I thought "what are we running here? a clown circus?" He was hopping with it in the air like Barbaro and I had flashbacks to that which freaked me out a bit.

Poor boy, I wish him luck. He seemed pretty determined that there was a job to be done and he was gonna do it from the moment he was being pulled up to when he thought he should bust out and give it another go. Thank goodness it didn't break the skin so that it cuts back on infection (and not gonna lie I would've probably gotten queasy if it had been flopping around on tv). I know it's kind of selfish but after I think about him being ok I start missing the fact that I don't get to see him run anymore. Such a gutsy little guy. So was Jamie waiting to make a deal in any capacity for breeding rights? Just so crazy that she didn't at least have something going. It's not like he's Secretariat for pete's sake. There's a likely limit for whatcha get.

he was entered for sale. i think they may have been shopping him, but maybe asked too much....

if he makes it, no doubt he'll get a deal somewhere.

I just called Rood and Riddle. I asked if they had any media statements or updates to release today regarding Teufs condition - no.

I asked if they had any updates or information regarding the exact nature of the injury - no, nothing other than what Dr. Ruggles has already said publically yesterday.

They did say they were going to release more information tomorrow morning -the girl answering the telephone didn't know the exact time.

Hope that doesn't bode poorly for Teuf. Doesn't sound good. But perhaps the owners just don't care to involve the news media in this. Their choice, they are certainly entitled to their privacy.

Thanks for trying Riot. From what I remember of the statement was that both sesamoids in the front left were fractured not that both front legs were injured.
No matter the controversy of the connections I like Teufelsberg, he is a hard working colt that always tried. I saw him in person all 3 times he raced at The Fairgrounds and was looking forward to seeing him this year.

Oh and the 2 scratches prior to yesterday were owner requests due to disputes among the owners. He was actually saddled and in the paddock and was scratched minutes before the race in his last entry.

I think your right it doesn't sound good, but will hope for the best.

I like Teuf, too. Maybe the professional journalist among us, Steve, will get or hear more information today.

lemondropkid1 10-07-2007 08:01 PM

They did an update on ESPN earlier.

The injury is just to the left leg, not both. Per Dr. Bramlage, he's resting comfortably. They've got him on fluids and blood thinners. Apparently there were some issues last night with blood flow to the leg, but it was looking better today. Still planning on surgery sometime early this week.

Good news, I was afraid he might already have been euthanized! THANKS for posting that!

"very sad , now the rest of her string wont eat. and she will have to go back to gasoline and bong water for hair color........."

Very, very sad news about T-berg. I'm wishing him the best. I might even call Rood and Riddle myself tomorrow morning. But jesus Christ, this is funny.

I talked to Sheikh Mo yesterday and he's still interested in purchasing Teuf.

Sightseek 10-08-2007 12:33 PM

It really sucks that this happened to Teuf. :( I actually feel bad for saying something about Sanders' training the other day...no one wants to see this happen to their best horse.

I really don't like when ESPN replays the moment of injury and they should have never showed when he got loose in case he made his injury worse.

Is he your favorite sheikh?

Merlinsky 10-08-2007 08:50 PM

Here's a link to the DRF article on him. It really was both front legs. Looks like the initial breakdown was the left front and the right front came after.

On an update from the bottom of that article, who knew Ravel was on the comeback trail. For some reason I'd just figured he was out.

According to Dr. Ruggles on Steve's program today, it's only left front, but both sesamoids. Steve posted the link in the ATR room, it's the start of the first hour. I read today's DRF as you did, I imagine they may have talked to Sanders immediately after the injury? Weird, unless she doesn't know what's going on?
