I love Miami. I don't doubt what Chuck said but I have had a great time in that city and I don't mean just in South Beach.
|
We were just saying that the track isn't in the greatest of neighborhoods. Not dissing on Miami in general. But where Hialeah Race Track is, is NOT in the best of neighborhoods.

West Side! ;) I grew up in Redford-- Six Mile and Beech Daly area. Not too far away. Redford is a working class neighborhood probably similar to where you were living back in the day. I always have the impression that Redford is a lot like Detroit used to be before everything spun out of control. Now I'm in Farmington Hills. |

Couple quick comments:
*Hialeah is about as close geographically to "Miami" as Hallandale / Gulfstream (so I would not "take shots" at Miami because of Hialeah). *Calder is not exactly in a "great" neighborhood either (you go about one block west of the track and you better "pray for your life"). I don't have the stat's but I would guess that the crime rate around Calder exceeds a similar sized area around Hialeah Park. One difference is the ease of access to the major Thoroughfares like the Turnpike and 95. I don't necessarily translate the word Hialeah to crime personally (and I work 2 miles from Hialeah). *Hialeah may have been a safe track for the horsemen to train / race and beautiful to watch the horses while running, but the 1st word that comes to my mind when I hear the name Hialeah Park is "toilet". Most Kennel Clubs and even Pompano Park have better "environments" for their patrons than Hialeah (example they have air conditioning). I would just as soon move the Super Bowl's away from Joe Robby er Pro Player er Dolphins Stadium and back to the Orange Bowl before I would take away a Breeders Cup (or any other major racing event) from Belmont, CD, etc and put it at Hialeah Park (at least the 1990's / 2000's version of Hialeah Park). |
