I'm not buying it.

They are playing with us again.

Yeah, it's the stinking Mariners for crying out loud. I think that last road trip was the end. With a half season class A rookie pitching the two Obaldo games we go 4-2 that road trip. We're 10-10 in August with 7 one run losses (3 of them 8-7 losses in Obaldo games). It's a shame, they're not that far from being there. Yet still very far.

clyde 08-23-2011 04:07 PM

But wait!

Is the earthquake a harbinger of a new Tribe for the rest of the season?

Could it be they go on to play .900 baseball and then sweep the playoffs to win the whole taco?Could this be kinda/sorta be like a Field of Dreams thing?

nah

horseofcourse 08-23-2011 05:46 PM

The second reign of Valbuena terror is over. I think we're going to see the return of Dopey after this McCallister spot start is over. Yea!!!! The Mariners are starting a lefty making his first appearance in the big leagues tonight. That usually spells disaster for the Tribe.

That last one has too much truth in it to be amusing.

horseofcourse 08-23-2011 06:56 PM

The orient express outfield up to 8 for 11, 3 doubles, a triple and 3 home runs now for the double header. That's haulin!!! (that doesn't mean we're still not losing 5-2in the 4th!!)

clyde 08-23-2011 07:00 PM

Oh boy.

How do we do it?

clyde 08-23-2011 07:05 PM

r u shore that isn't Jimenot in a McAllister suit?

clyde 08-23-2011 07:18 PM

We could have traded McAllister and Gomez for Jimenot...but noooOOOO.

clyde 08-23-2011 07:39 PM

Herman Munster has got to go.

horseofcourse 08-23-2011 09:25 PM

I'm watching some of Alex White tonight. HE looks pretty good. Doesn't appear to be overwhelmed by the mental anguish of changing teams or pitching in Coors Field. :D:D

clyde 08-23-2011 09:34 PM

!

As we all know, that can have devastating effects.

clyde 08-23-2011 09:39 PM

HorseyCoursey..I give up.It was very interesting in the early going, but too many injuries, a DUMB trade and just not enough offensive power to sustain.

But it has been sssso much fun!

yeah, it's done. slotdirt's crazy I think. Hafner's out for the season now. Choo is back to replace him!! The contest now is to see if they can win 80 games.

horseofcourse 08-23-2011 10:08 PM

In the end WHite gave up 6 runs in 6 plus innings so it turned out not to be a good start.

Had to be Jimenot in a White suit.

Or maybe culture shock is a valid excuse.

Brantley is the next DL assignee.

Oh no....Valbuena!!

Actually White gave up 5 runs in 6 innings. I don't pay too much attention to what's going on. They had the bullpen in the 7th inning. HE had two outs in the 6th and gave up a bloop hit down the left field line and then a Jimenez pitch for a homer. A bad game but better than 3 of the 4 Jimenez starts here.

clyde 08-23-2011 10:31 PM

That's a painfully sssso true statement.

Randy Moss...what could he hurt??

slotdirt 08-24-2011 08:20 AM

I don't know, every time I see Doug Glanville on ESPN, he keeps telling me that the White Sox or Indians are going to overtake the Tigers. I know he's not lying.

I think it's silly for the most part. Your offense is so much better than the other two it's not funny and you have Verlander...hands down cy young winner...in fact he's clinched it. Fister was a good pick up to solidify the rotation and Valverde gets the job done, uglyly, but it's done. I think the Tigers will have a decent shot in the post season too with Verlander pitching game 1 in the first series. You'll have way over a 50-50 shot to take a 1-0 lead.

horseofcourse 08-24-2011 10:44 AM

Now starting at 2nd base and batting 2nd......

DOPEY PHELPS!!!! Hurrayyyyyyy!!!

slotdirt 08-24-2011 10:48 AM

I'd bet dollars to doughnuts that Verlander pitches game two of a postseason series.

Tigers have 34 games left. Six game lead on the dreaded White Sox and 6.5 on the Indians. White Sox would have to go 24-12 to catch the Tigers and the Indians 24-11, provided the Tigers can play .500 ball the rest of the way. They're also on their longest streak (winning or losing) since May right now. Anything can happen.

clyde 08-24-2011 11:03 AM

!!

We're excited about Dopey Phelps.

God help us.

slotdirt 08-24-2011 12:51 PM

Odds that Josh Tomlin will still be a starter in the major leagues in 2013?

clyde 08-24-2011 01:14 PM

His arm is falling off.

slotdirt 08-24-2011 01:20 PM

Looks like it, right? Jamie Moyer he has not been the last two starts.

clyde 08-24-2011 01:24 PM

He's tired, he need a nappy-poo.

slotdirt 08-24-2011 02:54 PM

Don't lose faith. TIgers blew six and seven game leads, respectively, in the month of September in both 2006 and 2009.

clyde 08-24-2011 04:15 PM

Ya gotta be kiddin' me.

Detroit could play .200 baseball and still finish ahead of Cleveland.

We're the Petey's of baseball.

I can't speak for the White Sox, so maybe you do have to worry about them. I'm pretty sure the Indians can't play even .500 ball the rest of the year let alone go 24-11...we already had our stretch like that this year. I also spoke on this thread of the Tigers getting a better starter at the trade deadline than we did...(Fister over Jimenez, the historical record will state I said that!). You guys can hit too which also helps.

slotdirt 08-25-2011 06:26 AM

Well, the Tigers lost on a walk-off fielder's choice last night, so they're already starting to get creative.

You're just getting greedy now. You're guaranteed at least a split in Tampa which is good. They're a decent team. Both the teams that can't hit lost yesterday too so nothing at all lost in Tigger world.

horseofcourse 08-25-2011 07:04 AM

It took over 4 and a half months clyde, but we're finally back below .500 (April 5th was our last day there before yesterday), YEaaaaaaa!! And Dopey Phelps is here, Yeaaaaaa!!!

slotdirt 08-25-2011 08:31 AM

Not Cleveland-related, but the Mike Flanagan story is incredibly sad. Not only did he die way too young, but now sources are saying he committed suicide because he was despondent over his part in the Orioles being awful? Just a horrible story, and Flanagan, by all accounts, was a genuinely good dude.

horseofcourse 08-26-2011 09:46 AM

Based on last night, it appears the Browns are rounding into season form quite nicely too. Two to 5 wins looks well within their grasp this season.

horseofcourse 08-26-2011 06:13 PM

OH my lord, Jim Thome's batting cleaup...when the hell did we get him?? Tonight we're gonna party like it's 1995!! I'm thinking that was 16 yyears ago completing a simple math operation.

horseofcourse 08-26-2011 06:35 PM

Yeah, I'd be petrified slotdirt, we got our .240 hitting 41 year old cleanup hitter now!!

slotdirt 08-26-2011 07:11 PM

Are you guys sure Jim Leyland isn't your manager? That being said, his numbers are better with runners in scoring position and OBP than just about anything else on Cleveland.

horseofcourse 08-26-2011 07:34 PM

Obaldo's dealing tonight!! Nearly half the lineup is KC AAA players but that's ok. He's getting the standard no run treatment our pitchers are usually rewarded with for a good game.
