!!!!!!! :tro::tro::tro::tro: !!!!!!!

horseofcourse 08-21-2011 03:02 PM

So we've scored a minimum of 7 runs in all 4 Obaldo starts and are likely going to 1-3 in those games. Detroit made it through their bad relief pitchers with only 2 runs. They got their two good guys now so they should be ok.

clyde 08-21-2011 03:22 PM

I think people are now finding out why Colorado traded this guy. What they will never understand is why we wanted jim.

horseofcourse 08-21-2011 03:31 PM

Alex White got called up, he'll make a start for Colorado this week. Pomeranz had an emergency apendectomy after his great start and his season is done. (Antonneti had inside info on him getting a bad appendix!!)

horseofcourse 08-21-2011 03:41 PM

4.2 shutout for Smith, Pestano, Sipp. Shame Jimenot couldn't hold them to 6!!

slotdirt 08-21-2011 04:07 PM

That game was going to be devastating for somebody's psyche. Rather Cleveland than the Tiggers.

All things being equal.....Wedgie left Jimenot in just long enough to give up that 8th earned run in 3.1 innings, otherwise it's tied.

Seriously...I think Acta gets a 5 million doller bonus from Detroit should they win the division. He certainly isn't on our side.

horseofcourse 08-22-2011 12:48 AM

By and large I don't have too many problems with Acta. A few odd decisions, he didn't make this trade though. The team rarely packs it in during a game. I think he sets that tone. I can see trying to get an inning or two more from Obaldo...the team does have 4 games in the next 3 days. It's not his fault the guy blows.

slotdirt 08-22-2011 06:19 AM

I don't see how one can fault Acta for trying to roll a few more innings out of Jimenez yesterday, especially when one considers how much the bullpen had to be used on Saturday. Your ace should be able to give you more than 3.1 innings.

r u disagreeing with me......hc ?

I know all this, but I do have a barrel o' shock when I see a pitcher who has already given up 7 earned in 3, in a very important game--mind you, brought back out because by golly he just might go 6 hitless innings. When Jimenot put the Tiger uniform on....how long did Leyland go with jim?

Don't make me call you Ryan names.

slotdirt 08-22-2011 11:59 AM

I guess Masterson is the Indians true "ace" though, right?

TIgers have 36 games left, only 10 against teams with winning records (four TB, six CLE). Even if they go 18-18, the Indians and/or White Sox would have to go something like 23-13 or so to take the division.

Now that I've officially jinxed the Tigers, congrats to the Indians for the Al Central crown!

clyde 08-22-2011 12:38 PM

Masterson would be many teams true ace.

Jimenot is our 6th starter by virtue of the era's for pitchers who have stated this year.In fact...he's probably our no. 2 long reliever.

We got him to ensure we fail this year.

slotdirt 08-22-2011 12:44 PM

Well, most Indians fans that I know think they're a "lock" for the division next year.

The good news on our end is that the contracts of "Singlio" Ordonez and Carlos Guillen both come off the books after 2011. If the Tigers could take that extra $22 million or so and point it towards a starter and middle infielder, there's no reason they can't contend with the Indians again next year.

clyde 08-22-2011 12:51 PM

I am not one of those.

There are huge questions at third, first and even second as well as 2 outfield spots.Santana has DH written all over him and Kipness hasn't played nearly long enough to feel safe.

The pitching is swell ,but will always be less as they keep trying to force feed Jimenot so as to try and convince the trade was a sage one.

Imagine if they could throw out Drew P. and A. White next year. That would make them contenders.

But we seem to have lost them.

slotdirt 08-22-2011 01:03 PM

Well, at least Drew P. is out for the year with an appendectomy. Silver lining.

clyde 08-22-2011 01:20 PM

Well that wasn't very nice.

But he'll be back...Shapiro will be hung in effigy by July.

Both his starters pitched 7 strong innings friday and saturday and he has verlander going monday, he had quite a bit more bullpen leeway yesterday than Acta. I understand trying to get at least 4 from him!! :)

Exactly this....this is why I was so focused on 2012 as the year (this is a historical record, you can see these posts from last September!). The guys they traded the big names for have developed...(Masterson, Carrasco). Tomlin has exceeded expectations, and Exhausto has settled into a serviceable 4th or 5th starter in between 2007 Exhausto and 2009 Exhausto. 2012 was the year White and Pomeranz would start to pay dividends (White did a little this year before his finger injury. HE does start Tue in Colorado which will be interesting.) It's all a blind prayer now.

clyde 08-22-2011 04:57 PM

Same way I felt,HC.

I didn't think, as events went on,the Tribe could survive the playoff race although injuries have not helped.Trying to act like a Boston or New York and grabbing a " difference maker" for whom they would have to empty out the farm system made no sense. They were poised, like you said, to make a splash in '12/'13 ( and/ or).

They can't even do wrong right...if you know what I mean.

Now, again thanks to the braindust, we have to be more forward hoping.

clyde 08-22-2011 06:43 PM

Exhausto is earning his name tonight.

Should he go on in order to preserve an 18 hitter,he will have thrown at this rate......256.5 pitches.

Did his job. not great, but 2 runs in 6 is fine. If Ubaldo had pitched all his games like Exhausto since the trade, they'd be 4-0 in his starts and not 1-3. cleveland sporty fans thought I was completely insane when I said he wasn't as good as Exhausto.

7 quality starts in his last 9 games. His two non quality starts are zero runs in 2 innings and the injury and 4 runs in 7.1 innings. If Ubaldo had pitched every game like Exhausto's WORST game in the last two months we'd be 4-0 in those games.

clyde 08-22-2011 08:31 PM

He ain't even close to Exhausto, although his first 2 innings tonight were very tiring--he did redeem himself.

The Tribe's line up looks like micro fracturing.

Awful!

clyde 08-22-2011 08:58 PM

We might also add a closer to that shopping list.

Fork time.

horseofcourse 08-22-2011 09:16 PM

You gotta look at the bright side clyde, Perez hit two batters, walked a guy and committed an error and still only gave up one run!!

Jimenez goes Friday, it's gonna be ok!! We'll score 8 or 9 that game no matter who's batting. We'll have about a 25 percent chance to win it.

clyde 08-22-2011 09:39 PM

rolling on the floor!!

laughing my ass off!!!!

ror!!....so funny!

He's a serial killer!

horseofcourse 08-22-2011 10:37 PM

This is high comedy...I went back to the cleveland sporty forum and here is where this Obaldo discussion had devolved to. They have determined that this trade was made for the future. Yes, that is now the logic. They stated Obaldo is hurt this year and we need to wait until he is healthy in 2012 and he will start pitching like 2010. I said, wait a second, we traded our top two pitching prospects to build for the future?? They said yes, we're loading up for 2012 and 2013 and a healthy Obaldo is all we need. Then I said, why on earth would a contending team this year trade for an injured pitcher?? They then said again the trade was for the future. I said if he is injured why on earth is he pitching today?? they said it's not a serious injury that will require surgery. So I said again, so you're telling me the way to build for the future is to trade your two best pitching prospects for an injured pitcher?? they said when White or Pomeranz has 4 months like Obaldo had to start 2010 get back to them. They then said it was a big mental adjustment for him too. I said what mental adjustments did CC and Lee go through in 08 and 09 when they immediately went and dominated? They said well, they weren't hurt at the time of their trades.

Sso it all makes sense, we traded our two top guys for an injured pitcher to build for the future. Up is without question down in Cleveland.

clyde 08-23-2011 05:55 AM

!!!!

Ya cain't buy stuff like that!

horseofcourse 08-23-2011 07:34 AM

I am dying for White to go 6 or 7 really good innings tonight. It will become an absolute bloodbath over there and I can't wait, as the silent majority are just waiting for his game tonight to surface and we become the loud majority!

horseofcourse 08-23-2011 07:36 AM

Obaldo has made it Colt McCoy season very quickly.

slotdirt 08-23-2011 08:19 AM

Don't lose hope yet, you two. The Tigers still have guys named Porcello and Penny in their rotation. All is not completely lost, even if you're down 5.5 with 35 to play. The Twins were down three with four to play in '09 and the Tigers still blew that lead.

slotdirt 08-23-2011 10:46 AM

Total aside, but Verlander has let in 23 ER in his last 17 starts. That's pretty awesome.

clyde 08-23-2011 02:57 PM

thud

horseofcourse 08-23-2011 03:20 PM

It's a win clyde!! Another chance to drop below .500 stolen from us! And just when I declare C Perez' slump over, he proves me wrong. when will Obaldo prove me wrong??

clyde 08-23-2011 03:39 PM

That's why I fainted.

It's the earthquake....it didn't really happen.

horseofcourse 08-23-2011 03:41 PM

It was another banner afternoon for the orient express outfield...5 for 8, 3 runs, 3 doubles, game winning home run, 4 rbi! It's sort of like Chew is the hitting version of Exhausto this year, after a stint on the DL, good Chew returns as good Exhausto returned after his DL trip.

clyde 08-23-2011 03:44 PM

If there was only enough time for the rest of Murderers Row to go on the DL.

I'm not buying it.

They are playing with us again.
