edit - Racing Post... Exotic Dancer dies after Totesport Bowl By Racingpost.com Staff4.30PM 2 APR 2009 EXOTIC DANCER collapsed and died in his stable box after finishing second in the Totesport Bowl at Aintree on Thursday. Jonjo O'Neill's stable star won the race in 2007 and has remained among the high-rank of staying chasers since winning the Paddy Power Gold Cup in 2006. Jonjo O'Neill: "it's a sickener" PICTURE: Edward Whitaker Speaking on Racing UK, O'Neill said: "Hannah, who looks after him, was leading him round and she wasn't happy with him. He was a bit wobbly and the vet said take him to his box and he passed away. "It's a sickener for everyone but that's why we've got to enjoy the good days." Barry Simpson, racing manager to owner Sir Robert Ogden, added: "Very much so[a shame]. Not just for close connections but for all the staff that looked after him. "We had some wonderful days but it's very sad to end like this. We were disappointed with his jumping today but there was clearly an underlying reason." Exotic Dancer landed his first and only Grade 1 success in the Lexus Chase at Leopardstown in December. |

Hear The Echo dies on Grand National run-in By Graham Dench6.27PM 4 APR 2009 THE death of 2008 Irish Grand National winner Hear The Echo was the one sad note in an other wise memorable Grand National. The Mouse Morris-trained eight-year-old, a late replacement in the line up for the same owners' War Of Attrition, raced in the leading group for much of the way but had dropped to the rear when he collapsed and died close to the line. Jockey Davy Russell believes Hear The Echo suffered a heart attack, but that cannot be confirmed until a post mortem has taken place. Professor Tim Morris, the BHA's head of equine science and welfare, said: "In the final stages of the race Hear The Echo faltered and went over. The racecourse will have a post mortem carried out at Liverpool University, but that may not be until Monday." There were believed to have been no other serious equine injuries. Denis O'Regan was stood down for the day with an upper arm injury after his fall at second Bechers on Black Apalachi, but it is not understood to have been serious. |
