And they were fun ones to watch. Love just love that old boy, I will miss him this season at the FG. I'm glad they retired him healthy and sound and a winner, and old white warrior. I was hoping for one more run at the FG though, he loves it there.

I think I have some pics of him from the FG will find them for you.

Sorry to hear Black Mamba retired too...:(

OMG....:zz: A winner to me...OK...

He's never done well at HAW...don't know why they just didn't wait and run him here next week. I'm sure he's fine, but will ask next week...they said he was going to be retired after this run.

His name was Dilek (FR) and he had been trained by Alain de Royer-Dupre in France where he'd hit the board 5 of 6 times (he had won 4), beating horses such as Champs Elysees home.

http://www.hkjc.com/english/pp_formsheet/fse_H110.pdf

When the infamous Stanley Ho of Macau bought him, he changed his name. Comic Strip had become Viva Pataca and later when Kid Mambo was acquired his was changed to Viva Hong Kong... Dilek (who was also trained by Moore) became Viva Macau.

An awfully nice horse, he kinda becamse the 2nd banana to his more-famous stable mate. He always reminded me of the little brother or sister who could never quite measure up. For some of us who grew up being the youngest, it's easy to relate.

Viva Macau raced 29 times in HK and once in Dubai. He only won 2 (hit the board an additional 4 times), but his fans will never forget the barrier trial where he beat Viva Pataca home. It was wonderful.

His greatest moments.... winnng the Class 1 Sa Sa Ladies Purse...

Katy Keen

Lovely NZ mare - 33 starts, 10 wins. In 2008 she had a 7-race winning streak, 4 of them at G3 or G2 level.

I'll miss her.

Company, 8 year old susperstar (Japan)... a grand old guy who got better and better and who ended his career last night by winning the G1 Mile Championship.

He HAS done enough. :tro:

Happy retirement and thanks for the memories.

His replays are on the Japan racing / Japan Cup watch threads for anyone interested.

His name is Down Town although he had originally been Hantu.

http://www.hkjc.com/english/pp_formsheet/fse_G054.pdf

He came to Hong Kong in 2005 (trained by Dennis Yip) and worked his way up to Class 1... in his first G1 he was 4th (Cathay Pacific Hong Kong Sprint which Absolute Champion had won. The legend Silent Witness was 2nd and Benbaun 3rd. He beat some extraordinary horses such as She Is Tosho, star from Japan, home).

This is his finest moment... (from October of 2007)

I think racing fans who don't follow Hong Kong know a lot of these names.

His name is Helene Mascot, although he's widely remembered by his former name Salford Mill...

http://www.hkjc.com/english/pp_formsheet/fse_J164.pdf

He won his first HK start easily... the Mercedes Benz HK Mile. He beat home some really nice runners including Green Birdie and Jackpot Delight.

He was 2nd in the Derby Trial (to Green Birdie) and went on to win the HK Derby in glorious fashion.

http://www.hkjc.com/english/racing/r...2008&raceno=08

Such high hopes for this one... such a bright future. It really looked like he was the next big star.

He had only one start last year (came in last) and a couple this season (didn't do well at all).

Chadwick rode him in his last barrier trial and he came home ahead of some amazing runners - Viva Pataca, Collection and Armada.

Oh well. Hope he's okay and that he has a long and happy life.

As an aside, I've never understood the fascination with the name "Helene" for these guys but it's a little sad as they're all retired now. (Helene Pillaging, Helene Brilliant, Helene Elegance and Elite and the others. There have been 12 in all. :) ).

GROUP 1 WINNER ONEMORENOMORE RETIRED
(no author listed)

It is with great sadness that Patinack Farm advises of an injury forced retirement to its high-class Group 1 winning sprinter ONEMORENOMORE.
Onemorenomore stumbled at Warwick Farm on Tuesday morning whilst trotting and went down on his knees. X-rays were taken on Wednesday revealing a damaged exterior carpal bone. Prognosis of a return to the races was good however the injury is estimated to require 12-months of rehabilitation before he could return to the races, so it was with a heavy heart that Patinack principal Nathan Tinkler made the decision this afternoon to retire the three-year-old.
