Pump Up, a four-year-old maiden winner for trainer Steve Margolis, sustained an open cannon bone fracture during a workout on Sunday morning and was euthanized.

An unraced three-year-old filly trained by Mark Casse broke down with a shattered rear pastern on Monday morning and was euthanized.

Wisdom And Luck. The 6-year-old Paraneck Stable mare finished distant eighth, then dropped dead from "cardio-vascular collapse" pulling up after the race. She entered this 15G claimer with 1-for-22 slate, was beaten 20 lengths last out for 10G tag and lost five of her previous six starts by double-digit lengths.

She could have used a little wisdom in her training, and some luck. Obviously she had neither. She raced 3 times this year and earned $287 for Paraneck.

Here's a link to the Barbaro fund page if anyone is interested in making a donation. http://www.ntra.com/ridingwithbarbaro/

On Jan. 9, Prado was aboard a 4-year-old first-time starter -- like Barbaro and Nicanor, owned by the Jacksons' Lael Stables -- named Peter O', which had to be euthanized on the track after fracturing an ankle while rounding Gulfstream's turn.

Orpenella, 4 years old, at Southwell on the 29th.

This was her 11th start. She'd never won but had hit the board 7 times in her short career.

From the race report (Racing Post)...

Orpenella, who hashad plenty of chances, had 7lb to find with the winner. She took them along but was swept aside in a matter of strides before going badly wrong inside the last and she was put down.

Rest in peace.
