12 year old Toulouse-Lautrec (IRE), who was 2nd at Exeter today (Axminster Carpets Devon Marathon Handicap Chase)...

Toulouse-Lautrec, who returned from a layoff with a solid effort over hurdles earlier in the month, stayed on dourly to finish runner-up in this event for the second occasion. He sadly died shortly after the race, however.

Jump in peace.

Mighty Beau.

I don't know if any sites will bother with an obit so from memory I know he won the Aegon Turf Sprint and was once 2nd to Soaring Free (Canadian HOY) but i can't remember which race. I'm pretty sure he was in the Hollywood Turf Express.

Back when Mullins trained him, he ran at Royal Ascot in the King's Stand Stakes and the Golden Jubilee. I think he was 5th in the King's Stand.

Anyway, he was pulled up at Penn National a couple of days ago and they were kind enough to write back.

Nice horse who died trying running for a crappy $4 thousand.

Run in peace, good boy.

That sucks.

I remember racing our gelding "In the Red" against him at Remington.

RIP

His name was Fifty Fifty and he had run in the HK Derby and the Mile in the 2004 / 2005 season... ran with Vengeance of Rain, Russian Pearl, ran with the best of them.

http://www.hkjc.com/images/Horse/D131_l.jpg

I know that he was difficult from reading the incidents reports but I didn't realize that he had died... I'm assuming it was in February as that's when he was "retired".

His name is on retirements but i didn't know till today that it belonged here.

January 6th...
After leaving the Parade Ring and prior to entering the track, FIFTY FIFTY became fractious, reared and dislodged C K Tong, its rider. C K Tong sustained an injury to his right wrist and acting on the advice of the Club medical officers that he was not fit to fulfil his riding engagement, the Stewards permitted him to be substituted by W M Lai. There was a delay while W M Lai was weighed out to take this riding engagement. Then after entering the track, FIFTY FIFTY again became fractious, causing W M Lai to be dislodged on two occasions. FIFTY FIFTY then galloped riderless to the Start and in doing so made contact with a lead horse which as a result was severely injured. After arriving at the Start, FIFTY FIFTY was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was not suitable to race. Acting on this advice, the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of FIFTY FIFTY. The start of this race was delayed for a considerable time while the injured lead horse was treated by the Veterinary Surgeon and removed from the track. In the circumstances, the Stewards decided FIFTY FIFTY must perform satisfactorily in a pre-race parade before being permitted to race again.

Poor pony.

Fifty Fifty raced twice after that and although he was having a good season, he was (surprisingly) 11th both times. Wonder if he was hurt.

Oh well.

Rest in peace.

I'm sorry I didn't get back to you in the waiting thread. Actually I was there and really didn't know anything had happened but I was at the 16th pole side apron and not the finish line. I really didn't know anything had happened until I saw the vet truck drive to the other side, normally when the race is over they park the truck by the 16th pole. When it left I knew something was going on.
It wasn't a huge accident, I don't even believe the horse went down, Dooley didn't say anything and normally he will say a horse is down, just pulled up and vanned off, but I didn't hink he wouldn't make it.
Very sad though...an up and comer, even won a G1.

RIP..Screen your Friend....:(

Very sad story on fifty fifty and the pony.
