Hey you didn't tell me Pinzaara was running! Good luck, ed. Hope she wins! :) |
Yeah! So exciting to have her back. But it sounds like she's not quite 100% fit yet and there are some really nice horses in that field - Ryan Mark is scarily good.
But hopefully she'll run a nice race and improve from there. Jeez that was an impressive win by Tomorrowland. |

... and if not, it's all good. Enjoy her race! |
Great performance by Turn Me Loose.
|
Costume?! I love her, but wow. I did not expect that.
Disappointing from Puccini. The connections didn't have any explanation. But at least I can report that Pinzaara is fine! That was a nightmare for her but she's come through it and will try again next time. Ryan Mark was incredible. |

That was some finish by Costume AND Soriano (yea!!!) AND Shuka (yea!)! Outstanding! Blizzard! Man if I hadn't seen the results first I would have been really upset. :D Nice patient ride. Happy that Antonio Lombardo won (would have guessed the race belonged to Fix.. guess not). You're right, that was a god performance by Turn Me Loose. Happy to see Stratocaster do as well as he did in such a big field. Fun races! How lucky you are to have been there. Very much liked your piece on Antonio's win. :) |
Thanks! I was so happy for the McKays that their day got a bit better - they're really nice people.
|
Maybe an explanation for Puccini's race yesterday...
http://www.theinformant.co.nz/racing...or-disappointi Hope he gets better soon. |
Thanks for that ed and yeah, hope he gets better soon.
No matter what happens from here on out he is and always will be a champion. :) |
Absolutely.
Interesting little fact - Turn Me Loose was bred by George Simon, who called the race, along with his wife. :) |

Won't be around much for the next week - off for a vacation in Australia with my girlfriend to celebrate her 30th birthday. :)
|
Hope you have a great time, ed!
What a nice win by The Filly! No surprise seeing I Do right up there but oh... Postman's Daughter! That was some trifecta. The stuff of dreams! |
|
SORIANO!
That was great. Hope the horse who pulled up after the wire is alright (Uncle Shayne?). Ginner Hart... where did that come from? Nice run by Fix too! |
Thanks! It was a really nice week away. Just catching up on the races during that time - some great results!
I caught the Caulfield Cup live on TV - so, so proud of Rising Romance. |
She was spectacular! Glad you had fun. :)
|
Opie's back already! Just couldn't stay away.
|
Wow, this weekend is going to be amazing (and busy!)
My editor is going to Melbourne for the Manikato and Cox Plate, so it's me in charge of all the NZ stuff. I'll be at Ellerslie, where there are some nice fields... including Pinzaara and Cantina! Plus two stakes races at Trentham and three at Riccarton, with some good fields in those as well. Then on Monday it's the Sarten! O'Marilyn, Turn Me Loose, Vinnie Eagle, Avisto, Stratocaster... So much good racing coming up. I hope Bounding and Silent Achiever can do well in Melbourne despite their wide gates. |
SO happy Opie is back and best of luck to Pinzaara (nice field)! (Cantina... is she yours? Well good luck to her as well!).
Exciting stuff. |
|
PINZAARA!
That was so, so amazing. |

Oh my God ed I have missed every race, I have not looked at results, have not watched replays, haven't even checked my tvg account ... this is the ONLY thing I am checking (my dad is in intensive care and has been for the past ten days) and I just went to watch the race... you must be over the moon!!!!!! If this wasn't the toughest field she ever faced it was definitely one of them. Just wonderful... fabulous race, what a game girl... I am so happy for you. Please give her an extra hug and a peppermint from her biggest fan on this side of the globe. :) That was amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :tro: |

Outta here but please... when you get a chance do watch Pinzaara's nice win. Not an easy field. (Sorry for going off topic, ed... I know you don't mind). http://www.nzracing.co.nz/RaceInfo/4...ce-Detail.aspx |

Thanks, ed I appreciate that.
What's next for Pinzaara? That must have been fantastic (I am assuming you were at Ellerslie)... :) |
I definitely was! And I got to write about it, which was such a cool experience.
A breeding career isn't far away for her now, so they're going to try some stakes races to at least see if they can pick up a placing. The Canterbury Breeders' Stakes and Counties Bowl next month are the two they're thinking about at the moment. |
Great racing at Te Rapa today. O'Marilyn was unbelievable. She's going to be hard to beat in the 1000 Guineas.

Was also wondering... I just looked at the fields for Pukekohe Park tomorrow... why so many scratches? |
Pukekohe is having major issues with their track, and I don't think people feel like they can trust it. The races have since been called off.
The 1000 Guineas for fillies is on November 15, while the 2000 Guineas is November 8. It doesn't sound like anyone is crazy enough to run in both of them this year - you have to be Katie Lee to do that! |
Just got confirmation that I'm going to Christchurch for the 2000 Guineas next week! My first G1 race. Really excited about it.
|

Happy to hear you get to go to the 2000 Guineas! |
Katie's first little boy (sire Fastnet Rock) has not been named yet, but he's been entered for the Golden Slipper in April! So Graeme Rogerson must think he has some ability.
|
Oh ed... horrible morning reading about Moroney's poor horse at Flemington so I went to see what was up on the NZ racing site.
Zennista!!! Were you there? That was amazing the way she fought back once Abidewithme caught up to her haha! ... and oh, Soriano who I love so much and OH POSTMANS DAUGHTER! If you look at the replay look at what happens to her from like 1:44 to 1:52 and still she manages to end 4th?! That was some rough going for her and a very nice job (once again) by Derek Nolan who I am not at all familiar with, I'm ashamed to say. edit - ... and of course I just went to look at the Informant and found your very good piece! http://www.theinformant.co.nz/racing...-Sofitel-title |
Thanks! That was a fun race to watch and write about. The day got so sad later in the afternoon with the Melbourne Cup, but there were some fantastic races earlier in the day at Ellerslie.
|
The field for the 2000 Guineas on Saturday:
![]() Not a big field, but a talented group. I can't wait. |
We're underway on Guineas day! :D
The sun's shining, the track is perfect and I can't wait for the big races this afternoon. |
Wow, Silver Eclipse was really good today in the Pegasus. She's grown and improved a whole lot since last season.
|
What do you think, ed? Does Stratocaster win the 2000 Guineas?
Lucky you being there. Have a great time! |
