"Campbell said Palace Malice will be examined by a veterinarian panel Nov. 15 and if the horse is deemed “100 percent racing sound to the satisfaction of Three Chimneys and Dogwood,” he will go to Dogwood’s training barn in Aiken, S.C, to be prepared for another campaign with trainer Todd Pletcher." http://www.courier-journal.com/story...race/16111873/ |

Hoof abscess :zz: "At the beginning of the week we discovered a bit of soreness in the heel, which makes us suspicious of a hoof abscess. So we poulticed away at it and the infection came out and there were no soundness issues at all. Then a couple of days later he pulled out lame and on inspection we realised the inspection had blown out through the bottom of the foot as well as the top. What happens in most cases, it undermines and eats away at the attachment of the hoof wall to the sensory structures and therefore rendering it weak and unstable. At that time he was stopped. In a case like this it’s going to take a couple of weeks for the stability to come back and in that time we’re losing fitness and therefore he’s not going to be able to join in on Champions Weekend.” http://www.sportingpost.co.za/2014/1...ustralia-fair/ |

I've been following him for such a long time, and wondering if when he retired I'd even know about it or if he'd just fade into the ether. I can't wait til my next visit to OF, and am going to do what I can to help defray the shipping costs. Thanks for posting this here. |

Strapping Groom - 7 yrs old
http://www.drf.com/news/strapping-gr...ured-retired-7 Strapping Groom, the winner of the Grade 1 Forego at Saratoga in 2013, suffered a broken bone behind his right knee and will not race again, but he could have a career as a stallion, trainer David Jacobson said Sunday. Jacobson said veterinarians at Ruffian told him the horse could recover and return to the races at some point, but Jacobson said, “As far as I’m concerned, his racing career is over.” Jacobson trains Strapping Groom, a 7-year-old son of Johannesburg, for Drawing Away Stable. |
Grade 2 winner Gervinho has been retired from racing and will stand the 2015 breeding season at Tommy Town Thoroughbreds in Santa Ynez, Calif., for an advertised fee of $3,500.
