It's funny how when you're struggling a little bit, Lady Luck will suddenly desert you. After a cracking start it all went pear-shaped. Although I lost nothing significant today, it was symptomatic of a poor streak. I think that whenever you're going through a bad patch it's important to keep on working away and to not change what you're doing...unless its clear there is something fundamentally wrong with your game!
That said, I think it's gonna prove too much trying to keep up with the all-weather sufficiently whilst concentrating on the jumps, so will probably look to scale down the action at Kempton, Lingfield (especially those 2), Wolves and Southwell (although I do enjoy playing that track, so will still try to work it).

3:15. Walsingham. 8pts win. This rates a great bet. A half-brother to Strong Promise, Walsingham showed some ability for Richard Lee over hurdles (fell on his sole start over fences) at a modest level, winning twice last season. He is now switched to the outstanding Evan Williams and goes straight back over fences. A good-topped gelding, he has enough about him to do well over the bigger obstacles, his breeding backing this up. He gets in off a lowly mark of just 90 here and rates a cracking bet at around 11/2.

Great to hear from the other side of the pond. I lived in Leicester for a year and loved following the races in England. Still the sport of Kings!

A couple questions for you:

1. Where do you live?
2. Why do I see so many US bred horses yet have never heard of many of these sires?

Thanks,
Scott

Alright Scott,

I live in a West Yorkshire hole called Halifax at present, although originally from the far nicer Norwich, Norfolk.

I would imagine the reason that you haven't heard of the sires is that they raced in Europe, and many horses that race in Britain are bought from the American sales.

Harry.

very nice job on this ...a true capper who keeps records..you doing very well...good luck..

Unstable 01-25-2007 08:42 AM

Good job with this mate......... as i said on the other thread, my best mate looks after Another Promise. Graham Said that he wasn't the same horse yesterday, he hated the sharp track that Huntingdon is. and although he has shown he handles soft ground he would be much better on good ground. All trips come alike to him. and at the moment they plan on going for the Arkle.

Dar Corner won, at last that horse has paid back the amount ive lost on that before.

Hwjb 01-25-2007 10:20 AM

It was a stupid amount for me to put on a Jim Old horse, and that is one mistake I MUST learn from! I suspect Thedreamstillalive has got a problem, and for all the ability that he has, is one to avoid.
Kitski ran well enough, predictably let down by his jumping once or twice. But I've just been saved by Munaddam, wouldn't normally have backed it from that wide on the course, but to be fair to Hills (and normally I'm not) he gave it a good ride...was panicking a bit as he went for the rail. Horse to follow this season.

I like Another Promise a lot...one of the best jumpers in training. A test of speed at 2m was never going to suit, especially given that they went a steady pace. I wouldn't have though he'd be an Arkle horse, and I'd rather see him in the Jewson - unless the handicapper murders him for beating Rasharrow. I suspect he's a 20/22f horse, and don't imagine he'll see out the SunAlliance (I wasn't really sure whether he fully stayed in the Rehearsal). The Ryanair would be the alternative, but I couldn't see him beating My Way.

Im glad i had a few quid on Kitski for a place. Another Promise is a very good horse. My mate has landed a couple of nice horses, since he has only been there since like October/November time he also looks after that promising staying hurdler Negus De Beaumont. They are adamant that a strongly run 2miles will suit him at Cheltenham, i have been saying the same to him as you told me but he rides it out every morning and is adament. Ive backed him for the Arkle and they sound pretty confident of going for that race and he wont be 100/1 when he lines up, so as long as he stays fit i will have a few bets for nothing when i can lay it off at about 16/1 i would have thought.

Good call with the Dunlop horse, i was with the gamble (had backed it at 7/2 earlier) didn't even see it.

Greetings just hacked up if you didn't see it. You can back the Brazilian horses blind at the carnival every year and make a small fortune because they are always over priced and i don't know why.

That Wipe Yor Eye ran a shocker, it was backed off the boards too.... i had backed that this morning.

Great shout with Greetings. The Brazilians sure do look like they know what they're doing. It's why Dubai is a bit of a minefield when it comes to punting...trying to compare form from different countries on every different continent in the world!

Didn't see Wipe Your Eye, I've got a theory that he and Cross The Hymen are 2 JP has named as double entendres!!

Alan Berry took Wipe you Eye wide for most of it, held him up last on the first circuit, and came there to challenge but was soon under pressure and finished fourth. King Charlamane won hard held about 6lengths!
