The Hexadime

The Dime Sextet

The Mercury 6 (reference to the old Mercury dimes).

This last one would also lend itself well to advertising ("The Mercury is going sky high this weekend" -- especially in the winter)

Here's one that sounds like a slot machine reference, maybe to pull in some of those new players from the slot side:

The Dime Progressive

True, because only one winner will hit it. Throwing Progressive in the name immediately conveys that.

Could also do

"The Mercury Progressive"

to blend with the name from my previous post, and still get the advertising hook, and the distinctive name.

Certain bets aren't for everyone. The pick 6 is one of them. I just don't think horse racing needs to make the track and it's bets resemble a carnival. It needs to focus on what makes it unique and great.

You been there? I happen to think it's a great facility. Yes, there are things that were not thought out well (the saddling enclosure out of view of the patrons), but others that are (the slot machines are out of the way).

I liked my "Streaming Six" but now I"ll have to go unconventional with,
"Strokin' the Six with Stronach"

The Magnafire 6 or Magna-fier, if you prefer

The Sunsational 6

The Triple Diamond Perfecta

The Surfside 6(apologies to Warner Bros)

Prime Time for Just a Dime

The Dream Maker

and my personal favorite(from my 7 and 9 years old grandsons):

The Gi-normous 6

Yes I've been there. I wouldn't be commenting on it if I hadn't been.

'Progressive G6'

Also, using the word Progressive will alert slot and poker players to a 'jackpot' as that term is used for some table game in vegas and some bad beat thing in poker.

Exactly what I meant to imply also. The people who follow racing know that they carry over until hit, and the perfect ticket requirement ensures a jackpot.

But you're right -- the dedicated slots players might not realize that, and the progressive term will get their attention as they are already familar with it in that context.

MISTERGEE 12-21-2010 02:38 PM

only thing about that is do the people who are playing the slots or poker ever carryover to bet the horses?

Bigsmc 12-22-2010 06:42 AM

The "Why are you wasting money on a stupid horse bet? Take that dime and put it in one of our luxurious slot machines and pull the lever, Pick 6."

Bigsmc 01-04-2011 06:42 AM

"The 50-cent pick five will be offered with a 15 percent takeout, the smallest takeout offered on any pick five wager in the country, according to track officials."

Thank you sweet lady. I liked that one too, but it probably wouldn't have worked. Warner Brothers used to have a tv show by that name so I imagine that the name might have been copyrighted. Dating myself by remembering tv shows that were on 50 years ago.

My dad started his career writing for shows like East Side West Side and The Defenders back around then so yeah I've actaully heard of it as I hear about the good old days of tv from time to time. :)

I remember The Defenders, but I don't think I ever watched East Side West Side, but I seem to recall it was about a social worker? I'll have to look that up.

I was right, it was about a social worker. George C. Scott in the starring role and Cecily Tyson in a supporting role. Your dad must have been a pretty good writer. One episode with James Earl Jones and Diana Sand was nominated for 8 emmys.

Interesting stuff, you guys, and more than I knew. :)
