When I read your original post this AM, it really bothered me. I know nothing of the owner/trainer, but at least on the surface it all seemed rather . . . unseemly.

Checking back on the board a short while ago I was stunned to see 3 pages, and thought to myself, WoW! This story sure has gotten a lot of attention! I have to see what everyone was able to find out about it. But instead . . .

Hopefully the newfound attention on Andrew Davidovich and Violet Eyed Diva will pay off for her.

I hope so.

I don't know if you remember Alpena Magic... the 17 year old horse who was entered at Ellis a couple of years back?

I think the horsie boards had something to do with all the negative press and within a few days he was scratched, bought by the owner of Ellis, retired and made an Ambassador for the ractrack. :tro:

Here's hoping this old girl will have a similar fate. :)

Maybe destroyed is a bit strong, but I am confident he would beat anyone in training right now at 10f on dirt.

I am extremely confident that there are no races that currently fit that bill till the Fall so I will continue to not care.

Yes, that was a storybook ending.

I'm starting to realize that a Zenyatta fleshlight would be a big seller.

Some consider the Pacific Classic to be the big Summer race.

She'll be in the barn for that one too if it matters.

I am not a synthetic track basher, I accept it as part of the game... Lets compare the last 4 Pacific Classics to the last 4 Whitneys and then talk about what races produced more important horses moving forward....

THANKS COACH

Gotcha CS.

berreman150 06-29-2010 09:16 PM

I, also was interested in seeing what was up with racing a horse after that long of a layoff. Instead got more crap about whos the best . Starting to notice that everything on this forum ends up being about certain horses only.

MMSC -

I thought you liked Chips Are Down once upon a time...in case you did not see (which is very unlikely!) he is entered in the 2nd at Monmouth on Friday. I didn't know he was put back in training last year. The note on pedigreequery reads:

Retired to Godstone Farm, Pine Grove PA. Returned to training 2009 after being bred to 17 mares at Godstone. Current owner: Ron Perozzi.
updated Nov 2009

He is listed in the Stallion Register as having a 2K fee for 2010.

Danzig 06-29-2010 09:30 PM

boy, i could go for a seven year layoff. lay around, spend time outside, get bathed every day, fed....yeah, that ain't gonna happen!

Oh no I didn't see this and I'm so glad you told me!!!!! :D I really am!

I think I've actually deleted three horses from my VS (him, Da Stoops and Don't Get Mad. Don't ask me why I remember that). :o

Nice to see that name again!

Thanks! (Good memory). :) :tro:

He just lost like 80lbs or so..that would be a good start..

seriously Joe

To me - the real story in all of this - is that Presque Isle's morning line maker made the horse coming off of a 7-year-layoff 3/1 on the morning line.

It's the arthritis to dirt angle.

It’s safe to say it’s very unusual for a 10-year-old pregnant Thoroughbred mare that hasn’t raced in seven years to return to training.

But after Pennsylvania-based owner-trainer Andrew Davidovich’s mare Violet Eyed Diva, who is 2 1/2 months pregnant to his farm stallion Draft Age (by Storm Cat), was entered in a July 1 claiming race at Presque Isle Downs & Casino but then scratched by stewards, Davidovich began working to prove his mare was in fact healthy enough to race and deserved to make a comeback in spite of the extraordinary circumstances.

According to Pennsylvania State Horse Racing Commission officials, though Davidovich presented a compelling argument in the form of a letter stating the details behind the mare’s strong training and positive veterinary exams, regulators want to take a closer look before approving the mare to race at the Erie track.

Merlinsky 07-15-2010 01:17 PM

I gather they might just "take a closer look" for awhile til he gives up and takes her back home.

CSC 07-15-2010 01:46 PM

I am surprised no one has mentioned Whatsthescript's return to the races after his stint as a sire covering 26 broodmares. Bertrando?
