Driver's licenses are easy to get. It depends upon the state. I don't see any "national security" at all there. Illegals already have plenty of driver's licenses now. |

This nation is lucky to have this President, at this time in history. McCain-Palin? Dear gawd, what a disaster. BTW, I can look right through you, too. And it ain't pretty. |
can it?

And, if indeed you can look right through me, what you see on the other side most definitly isn't "pretty". Mc Cain was a weak candidate, but the press just pushed him along. McCain scrambling at the last minute was advised to choose Palin as his running mate. I have no dislike for Sarah Palin, but she'd do best doing what she's doing now. I do not see her as someone who should hold an office in Washington - senator, congresswoman, VP, or President. Then, the Democratic Party turned their back on their standard bearer - Hillary Clinton and goes for some guy who made an impressive canned speach at the Democratic Convention 4 years previous. Take that telepromter away from him and let him speak off the cuff at questions just fired at him, and he has more "uhs" than Paris Hilton. That's not articulate. What a freakin' fiasco. It's a dreadful shame that Obama and McCain were the two best candidates in a country of 300 million people. Unbelievable! For myself? I really shouldn't let it bother me so much. What's going on now won't really affect me. We're retired, self-sufficient, and have all our life lines in place. Our future is NOW. We have no children or grandchildren to worry about. I probably shouldn't worry for others if they don't want to worry about themselves. This isn't the 50's - you know, that era for which you seem to have so much scorn - but I sure would love to go back to those times: HIGH SCHOOL - 1957 vs. 2010 Scenario 1: Jack goes quail hunting before school and then pulls into the school parking lot with his shotgun in his truck's gun rack. 1957 - Vice Principal comes over, looks at Jack's shotgun, goes to his car and gets his shotgun to show Jack. 2010 - School goes into lock down, FBI called, Jack hauled off to jail and never sees his truck or gun again. Counselors called in for traumatized students and teachers. Scenario 2: Johnny and Mark get into a fist fight after school. 1957 - Crowd gathers. Mark wins. Johnny and Mark shake hands and end up buddies. 2010 - Police called and SWAT team arrives -- they arrest both Johnny and Mark. They are both charged with assault and both expelled even though Johnny started it. Scenario 3: Jeffrey will not be in class, he disrupts other students. 1957 - Jeffrey is sent to the Principal's office and expelled from school for a week. When his parents find out, he gets punished by them, as well. He then returns to class, sits still and does not disrupt class again. 2010 - Jeffrey is given huge doses of Ritalin. He becomes a zombie. He is then tested for ADD. The family gets extra money (SSI) from the government because Jeffrey has a disability. Scenario 4: Billy breaks a window in his neighbor's car and his Dad gives him a whipping. 1957 - Billy is more careful next time, grows up normal, goes to college and becomes a successful businessman. 2010 - Billy's dad is arrested for child abuse. Billy is removed to foster care and joins a gang. The state psychologist is told by Billy's sister that she remembers being abused herself and their dad goes to prison. Billy's mom has an affair with the psychologist. Scenario 5: Mark gets a headache and takes some aspirin to school.. 1957 - Mark shares his aspirin with a school buddy who also has a headache. 2010 - The police are called and Mark is expelled from school for drug violations. His car is then searched for drugs and weapons. Scenario 6: Pedro fails high school English. 1957 - Pedro goes to summer school, passes English and goes to college. 2010 - Pedro's cause is taken up by state Newspaper articles appear nationally explaining that teaching English as a requirement for graduation is racist. ACLU files class action lawsuit against the state school system and Pedro's English teacher. English is then banned from core curriculum. Pedro is given his diploma anyway but ends up mowing lawns for a living because he cannot speak English. Scenario 7: Johnny takes apart leftover firecrackers from the Fourth of July, puts them in a model airplane paint bottle and blows up a red ant bed. 1957 - Ants die. 2010 - ATF, Homeland Security and the FBI are all called. Johnny is charged with domestic terrorism. The FBI investigates his parents -- and all siblings are removed from their home and all computers are confiscated. Johnny's dad is placed on a terror watch list and is never allowed to fly again. Scenario 8: Johnny falls while running during recess and scrapes his knee He is found crying by his teacher, Mary. Mary hugs him to comfort him. 1957 - In a short time, Johnny feels better and goes on playing. 2010 - Mary is accused of being a sexual predator and loses her job. She faces 3 years in State Prison. Johnny undergoes 5 years of therapy. Go, Arizona, and good night! |
Oh.
My. God. |
1950's Coach - Meets nice white girl. Gets Becky from her. Doesn't call. B.itch goes crazy and cries rape. Coach gets lynched and ends up in a noose.
2010 Coach - Reads psychotic ramblings from a dildohead on Nerdy Trail. Wishes he was 1950's Coach. At least then he'd get some Becky. Kills self. |
I've just skimmed this thread & might not be on target, but I think Mexicans should be treated like neighbors, same as Canadians, open borders. The Mexican people are not our enemies. If anything, they are willing to work in low-paying jobs that most Americans don't want and the American employers who take advantage of their situation by illegally paying them less than the minimum wage are the ones who should be prosecuted.

And, btw, you did say: <<just moving this forward. i didn't get an answer from anyone on why the feds, mexico, or anyone else should be up in arms about this law. it wasn't a rhetorical question-i really want to know why this is a bad law, or misinformed, etc.>> I believe I was the first person to step forward and write in support of Arizona's law. I'm sorry if it didn't meet your approval. |

'57 - '10. Wouldn't it be nice if we could pick the best of each decade and make a utopia?!~ But, I'm sure we couldn't agree on that either. So many people preaching tolerance and so few practicing it. |

I actually agree with you on this. I don't necessarily think it's a bad thing that Mexicans want to come here, but there should be a legal procedure if we want to make it easier on them. Everyone in this country, whether visiting or here for a longer stay, should be properly documented! |

Stipulates that a law enforcement official or agency cannot solely consider race, color or national origin when implementing these provisions, except as permitted by the U.S. or Arizona Constitution. Now, how do you make sure that cops will follow this part? . |

I'm back, after having read SB1070-492R and it does seems unfair. If you don't have proper papers, you will be fined minimum $1000, plus legal fees & possible imprisonment. Why not just send them back?
If you hire an illegal, you could be fined $1000 per alien if it's 10 more UNLESS (loophole, loophole)...You didn't KNOW they were illegal. How's a Mexican looking for a job gonna come up with all that money? They're just gonna end up in a US prison...and for what crime.....trying to make some money? Of course we don't want drugs & criminals. This law doesn't target those cartels. I'm still back to wanting open borders with our neighbors seeking a day's work. |

they know as worded it wouldn't get past even this supreme court. ignoring the actual issue of immigration, the only thing dem's could have asked in terms of electoral politics is that arizona waited until september to pass this bill. this doesn't play into the republican narrative for november at all. they already have the pissed off white folk vote nailed down. the last thing they needed was doofus arizona legislator's handing brown people another reason to go out and vote again. i still think hispanics could be an important part of the republican base if they'd just get out of the habit of constantly reminding them how much they're not wanted. |

All the good citizens of Arizona are rushing around making copies of their birth certificates and passports, eager to comply with this new law, having to prove their citizenship upon demand from a local cop when they get stopped for speeding.
|
They shouldn't be speeding
|
That's not the point, is it?

Is it really a big deal to leave a copy of your birth certificate/passport by the car insurance papers? I don't think it would be. |
