3rd off, how stupid is Joel Rosario. Say what you want about Stauffer, but Rosario has absolutely exploded since Vic got his book. Pre-book, he was another name out there, now he is top three guy. Why break something that isn't close to being a problem.

maybe rosario grew tired of the problems that seem to follow stauffer around?

How long for this Jocks agent world do you think Vic really is? You think he is Mr. Popularity on the back stretch? You think Garcia needs Vic to get mounts from Baffert? What happens in may when Baffert ships half his string to NY and MP?

I wonder if Joel is considering coming East and thinks Ebanks is a better fit for a potential move.

SCUDSBROTHER 03-11-2010 05:06 PM

He really said he could do better with somebody else? Guess lil Garcia winning the biggest race of the meet had no impact whatsoever on this decision? Vic, I thought ya did a great job for him. Talented people get pretty weird sometimes. Having 2 jocks is just problematic. If you didn't have Marty, and, 2 weeks ago, Baffert offered you the mount on Misremembered...What would you've done? I mean, just saying. That's proly what's going on in J's head.

While he won a lot with Stauffer, he was not just another name. He was already winning races when Vic took over. He will continue to win a ton of races out there no matter who his agent is. That jock colony has deteriorated over the years and he picked up momentum. Gomez and Bejarano were always strong...but Pval went postal, Solis can't ride anymore, Nakatani continued to piss everyone off and left, Tyler Baze had his problems, Vic Espinoza is ok I guess. After that there isn't much so Rosario picked up the pieces.

Vic obviously was getting him great mounts and doing that part of the job well.....but one doesn't have to look to far to see what might have drove Rosario away.

Michael Baze to Chicago for Arlington.

Why bad news for you, Scav?

Could be one of the reasons why he seems to take days off lately.

He isn't good.

Either way, I think things are gonna be different here this summer. I have heard that Von Hemel and Hobby will NOT be coming back. But that is a rumor. That is alot of horses to replace, 60-ish

So you've got a jockey that you don't like -- don't use him. I just thought from your initial response that there may have been more to it than that.

You are shitting me that you think Karlsson had a big summer last year. And don't try busting out her recent Hawthorne hotness on me because you know it is a different league. She will yet again flirt with the Laviolette line

She had a good summer considering her loss of the bug, the fact that she's only a couple years removed from her first career win, and the fact that she still wasn't getting tons of good mounts. Of the top 10 riders at Arlington last year based on wins, she was 5th in win percentage and 5th in ITM percentage. That's certainly not a bad season, I would hope, or we'd have to start talking about your boy Timmy, who of the top 10 riders, ranks 9th in both categories.

The only Laviolette line I know is about how much personal hatred you have for him as a rider, never any numbers or anything or any good reason other than you felt wronged by him on occasion.

Either way, I certainly don't want to derail what promises to be an AMAZING thread with this. Will be happy to take it up with you the next time I see you, and you know how much that means that it's important for me to keep a thread on topic -- it has THAT much potential.

Vic did a fantastic job with Joel. He is a great rider and Vic was the first one to run out and be by his side when he went down last week. Garcia is a freakin awesome young rider ! Vic is holding pocket aces ! Best of luck to Vic, Joel & Martin ! :tro:

Baze hired Fedor as his jock agent

The Indomitable DrugS 03-11-2010 10:55 PM

Rosario's stats:

With Vic as agent:

All races: 359-for-1,917 (18.7% wins) $1.90 ROI
Sprints: 222-for-1,170 $1.84 ROI
Routes: 137-for-747 $1.99 ROI
Stakes: 36-for-243 $2.07 ROI

Before having Vic as agent:

All races: 339-for-2,335 (14.5% wins) $2.14 ROI
Sprints: 211-for-1,470 $2.12 ROI
Routes: 128-for-865 $2.18 ROI
Stakes: 15-for-149 $1.49 ROI

I think it's pretty clear that his reputation as a rider improved quite a bit when Vic had his book .... his betting value numbers came down to earth somewhat, but that figured to happen as his name became bigger.

Did he get better as a jockey over that time? No, I don't think so. Still - his reputation and quantity of live mounts improved .. and that's all any rider cares about. I guess it must have annoyed him that he had to share an agent with another young rider like Garcia.

Hard to feel Vic's pain because he's still got a competent young rider in Garcia .. but Garcia isn't the talent Rosario always was.

The Indomitable DrugS 03-11-2010 11:54 PM

The odd thing about Martin Garcia's numbers is how much he struggles on the turf.

He's just 1-for-42 in turf races this year.

In turf routes over the last two years - he's 7-for-132 with an ROI of $0.50.

He's in his 6th year of riding now - and only once has he ever won at a 10% or better clip in turf routes .. that was in 2006 when he went 19-for-160 with a very poor $1.48 ROI.

For his entire career in turf routes he's 47-for-540 with a $1.15 ROI

He's fine in all the other categories.

A little bit more of the story:
http://www.brisnet.com/cgi-bin/edito...e.cgi?id=17791

the_fat_man 03-12-2010 07:12 AM

1) "He's the best young rider I've seen," Ebanks said. "The sky's the limit."

2) Michael Baze said he would ride out the Santa Anita meet, then head to Arlington where he will be represented by agent Jay Fedor, who currently handles Corey Nakatani.

3) Tyler Baze, whose ties were severed by Ebanks when he took Rosario, reportedly was set to decide on a new agent shortly.

******************************************

1) WTF is everybody smoking? Ebanks must be nearsighted.

2/3) Can you imagine was it must've of been like handling book for not ONE but TWO Bazes? I mean, Southern CAL probably leads the country in RETARDENESS in the jock colony and Tyler and Michael are a big part of this (with Espinoza, whether on or off his meds, who is the preemminent ****** riding presently). It's impossible trying to figure out what these idiots are liable to do any any given point in a race. I mean, you can never assume that they'll do what's expected. Baby sitting two of them must've scarred Ebanks for life. And, I'm sure Ebanks spent many a long 'film' session discussing setups with them, as indicated by the way they ride. (ha ha ha )

much ado about nothing

Give me Kayla Stra, and a couple of weeks to work those premature tendencies out of her, and she could ride with any of these idiots. Of course, teaching jocks how to 'ride' is not part of the agent's job so what's the issue when a jock switches agents?

Sounds like someone was in the young man's ear. Probably something like (obviously my own guess/take), "Vic has taken you as far as he could and I could bring up to that next level".
I also do think coming east is part of the equation, if not now then in the near future and Ebanks probably mentioned that Vic has no desire to come east and probably doesn't have the connections that he would (like I said just a guess on my part).
Reguardless, it's a tough blow for Vic and I feel bad for him. But like someone said, it's buisness and unfortunately sometimes a cruel buisness.

Vic was proud Rosario never left Ca. Vic told the free world he would never come east. Apparently, that isn't the way to grow your resume as a world class jock. "Hi, my name is Joel Rosario and I only race in a state were TB racing is in serious decline and I am berry berry happy?" You do the math, Math.
