They all lose.. Slew lost, Big Red lost, Forego lost, Bid lost PE didn't and Zenyatta hasn't but there is NO shame in losing. The shame is when you dont show up. Without sounding to sappy, watching to champions give it their all and having one edge out another doesnt make the other a bum.

Nobody I mean nobody is coming to the track to see Mr. -7.5 run. 2010 is about the gals, two of them. Jerry Brown and to a lesser degree Beyer(BSF), can follow QR the public cares about Rachel and big Mama Zenyatta..I get QR maybe the fastest of the 3 but who cares?

he wouldn't go in the gate when he saw Zenyatta on the track

if he had to run against Rachael he probably wouldn't leave the paddock

I'd pay my taxes early if I could fast forward the calendar to April 9 without any setbacks for these two.

Oaklawnfan 02-11-2010 08:29 PM

This is the best win at the track I may have ever had. Tickets at the finish line. Confirmed hotel rooms just a couple of hours before the announcement and a spark in my wife's eye. Now that's a winning tri-fecta.

MaTH716 02-11-2010 09:47 PM

Has anyone given any thought what would happen if it should rain? I'm guessing Rachael would be in the gate, and opinions on Zenyatta running on an off track?

rpncaine 02-11-2010 09:57 PM

What I want is for OP to make sure that they put this race as the last one of the day. Us working people need time to get home and watch it live. It needs to go off no earlier than 6:00 pm EST!

tanner12oz 02-11-2010 10:39 PM

ill be driving from the middle tennessee area if anyone wants to carpool and split gas...calling for tickets tomorrow am

letswastemoney 02-12-2010 02:22 AM

$100 exacta RA over Zenyatta.

How much will that pay? :)

Any ideas as to who will be broadcasting it? Will it be the usual HRTV or TVG or will ESPN decide this is worthy of 30 minutes of air time?

ETA: At least Steve will be able to air the audio on ATR!

I don't know about that. After vanquishing Past the Point, he's already beat the key opponent along the way to the last two Horses of the Year.

True to your name................

slotdirt 02-12-2010 08:53 AM

I'd have to imagine Zenyatta would scratch if it rains.

For the record, I think this whole deal is pretty much the worst idea in horse racing in a long time. A Friday? Seriously?

Gosh, are you saying now that Rachel is prettier than Zenyatta? You Lucky Alexander people are so shallow.:)

Sure hope you and tectard load up on RA for the win …

It's the only way Oaklawn could make it work in their schedule and they were the ones to step up and offer the $5M purse. Saturday is the Arkansas Derby and the last day of the meet. If they put the Apple Blossom on Saturday, there would only be a nominal increase in the attendance, while they truly have a fantastic two day event now.

I wish Churchill had stepped up and tried to put something together Derby weekend, but they know they already have 250,000+ fans for the weekend, so why bump a purse?

tector 02-12-2010 10:00 AM

With all the lost days of racing they could have easily gotten permission to run Sunday.

If it happens, I'll see it. But Friday is a dumbass day to do it. Do you know of any other sport that puts a premier event on a Friday afternoon (that isn't a holiday)?

I have spoken to the Hot Springs Chamber of Commerce. They are promising sunshine, low humidity, low 70's and calm winds for April 9th. Oh, and a hard fast track.;)

Churchill....Breeders Cup...I agree with you somewhat, but it is what it is.

MaTH716 02-12-2010 10:20 AM

Granted maybe it's not the best day for it. But after all the bitchin, moanin and complaining that this is never going to happen. Guess what, it looks like it's going to finally happen (although I'll still believe it when I see it). Who cares if it was a freakin Tuesday? The fans who want to see it, will go out of their way to see it reguardless when it happens. The rest of the mainstream public who might care, will watch it if they happen to be around a TV whether it was a Saturday, Sunday or whenever. Those people aren't canceling their weekend plans to watch the Breeders Cup, let alone a single race (even though it will most likely be the race of the year).
Give Cella credit for making it come together. If you think about it, it's kind of a brilliant buisness decision. He's most likely guarenteed another big gate for his track, the day before it's priemre event.
I personally think there should be more outcry about the Breeders Cup Friday card. Holding that on a Friday is an injustice to horseplayers/fans. That's a day of great racing and more importantly tremendous betting opportunities.
This is just the Race of the Year we are talking about. Everyone wants to see it so badly, who cares when they have it? Just as long as they have it.

"they" are masters of the bad idea.....you would think the blind squirel would find the nut evry now and then.

Sightseek 02-12-2010 10:25 AM

I'm curious as to who else will be invited and who will accept.

slotdirt 02-12-2010 10:36 AM

If this does happen, I'll be rooting for some other horse to win the race, mostly because it will be televised at a time where I'll probably not be able to watch it.
