Lol, I've been trying to parse out why I feel better about next year without being a total homer, but I really do have a good feeling.

Cutler gave up lots of terrible, terrible balls this year, including several red zone picks that were totally his fault, but I also saw several of his billion picks come on receivers cutting routes short, running off where they weren't supposed to be, and more than his share of plain old unlucky ones.

He was terrible this year for the most part, but the one thing (really the only thing) that makes me feel better is that the ones that were the fault of his receiver should go down as time goes on. Look at the guys who are essentially our top 4 receivers -- Hester in his 2nd year playing wide receiver, Bennett in his 2nd year, Aromashodu in his 3rd year, and Johnny Knox in his rookie year. We don't have a top receiver who has been in the league more than three years. Some of them have a good deal of talent (ie Aromashodu went gangbusters when he came back from injury this year, Knox has lots of potential), and I think that with time, as they get better, we'll see much better work from them and in turn, much better work from Cutler with their help. Come on -- most teams have a legit wide receiver with more experience than our top 4 combined :)

Admittedly a little bit of hometown wishful thinking, but also, admittedly not without a good deal of logic, either.

Cutler had a couple of decent games this year, there's hope for him yet.

Yea, if they re-do the schedule so we can play the Lions four or five times.

Coach Pants 01-18-2010 08:06 PM

If they get rid of Coach Zoolander they might make the playoffs in 3 years. Other than that the Bears are dunzo.

PeteMugg 01-18-2010 10:13 PM

As long as the Bears think they're a running team, they are toast. Third an long is a a hard way to make a living. A better mix and a little more time together and this team has a shot.

None of those guys are number one or two receivers. They are number 3 receivers at best on most teams but more like 4 or 5 guys.

You can't bring a guy like Cutler in, drop those kind of draft picks and money for him, and then have him throwing to hester, bennett and Knox. The only one in his arsenal that was starting NFL caliber was Olson.

A number one receiver and a new coordinator should help immensely.

Not yet, which is exactly my point.

2 mins your welcome. Glad you enjoyed my humor on the new jersey jets! After this weekend the jets fans can disappear. I'll let the colts do the talking. Coach can't stop them this time! lol

MaTH716 01-24-2010 03:55 PM

I think Rex made a mistake there. He should have tried to pin the Colts deep. I saw Feeley with the Giants for a few years and I can't ever remember him even trying something past 50.

Coach Pants 01-24-2010 03:57 PM

You play to win the game. I have no problem with it.

rpncaine 01-24-2010 04:49 PM

Really impressed by this kid Garcon. He is one tough mutha!

rpncaine 01-24-2010 05:00 PM

Nice season Jets.....lots to be proud of. Keep kicking NE ass next season!

Coach Pants 01-24-2010 05:02 PM

The Colts deserved it. Congrats.

Agreed, they were the better team. The Jets couldn't afford to go punch for punch with them, they couldn't win that way.

Sorry Pants. Of course we lose Leon and Jenk and then the MVP of the postseason goes down before halftime today. Such is life as a Jet fan. 12+ wins next year if we're healthy. Big if.

GPK 01-24-2010 05:23 PM

Great run by the Jets. The best team won today. Not too many words appropriate enough to describe Peyton Manning.

rpncaine 01-24-2010 05:27 PM

Yep..my dad used to be huge Colts fan and talk about watching Johnny U. play and I wish he had been around to see Peyton. Biggest change for Colts in the last 2 years was the defense manning up.

Wish we could skip the 2 weeks of hype and just play next week.

Respect to the Colts and their fans. Hopefully we see you guys again next year, healthy this time.

You mean you are hyped up for the Pro Bowl??? Especially if MN wins and there are 20 replacement "pro Bowlers"?

Good run, Joey.

Though I won't say anything about that 12 wins prediction. No need to pile on after a good run. But add that to another list of things I'll be "shocked" to see.

Christ. Why would you be shocked? We're young at every position and Sanchez and Greene are the goods and the defense was terrific in the first year in the system. I don't feel like I'm being outlandish, especially with the Pats and the Dolphins being so garbage.

That was definitely not deserving of a "Christ," response. Maybe you're a "12 or more" win team, we'll see. I don't think you are. Just like I didn't think you had a good chance at all to win today. It's that simple. Just like I don't think the Bears are a 12 win team, despite the fact that they have key young players and have plenty of upside in the coming year(s).

It's not a personal attack for someone to say that they think your expectations are not likely to happen.

Who's better in the AFC East? Or as good? Yeah, the Jets = Bears.

Ok, so teams always win divisions with 12 wins.

I forgot that anything less had never happened. Got it now. Sorry for the confusion.

Sigh. OK, 11 wins.

In the meantime, geaux Saints.

skippy3481 01-24-2010 09:16 PM

Your jets played well joey and down the road if they can keep their pieces together... they could be scary. You just have to work with braylon on not dropping 80% of the passes thrown his way... Onward to XLIV

80-yard TD catch and run when it counted. He's gonna drop a few passes but he gets behind the defense unlike any WR we've had since Keyshawn. Congrats man.

skippy3481 01-24-2010 09:38 PM

Trust me i know braylon edwards... been a huge fan of his for a looooong time. When you need him most.... he will drop a ball that you could have caught. I'm just warning you. He had a nice game today though. our 8th string cb got caught looking at the qb which is just inexcusable. The matchup for the saints should be fun.

For the first time in a long time, the super bowl will be competitive at least betting wise. I'm still not sure if Jim caldwell is alive though. Damn son, wake up and maybe smile every now and then. Forget this business as usual stuff, your going to the 'ship....

nebrady 01-25-2010 10:57 AM

too much manning and garcon!

Jets crashed and burned! Too much of the mvp and the kid from haiti. Almost 400 yards passing and most yards jets defense given up all season. No question who was the better team. As for jets being best in east, comon kanye we kicked your ass the last time and we will restock for another run. The patriots will be fine can't wait to play the jets next year.

no offense but I wouldnt mention the Bears and the Jets in the same breath.

Antitrust32 01-25-2010 11:34 AM

Also, ateam, I'm sorry you have Lito Sheppard on the team. He's garbage but thinks he's better than Revis.

One of the silver linings of the loss was it exposed the weaknesses we have, which will hopefully be addressed now. We obviously need a better corner opposite Revis. Lito, Lowery, Strickland and even Coleman all had their moments but none could consistently do the job. We also badly need another pass rusher, as Pace and sometimes Ellis are the only ones that can beat guys 1-on-1. Shonn obviously should be the starting RB next season, I love TJ, but the torch has been passed and he'll have to accept a smaller role if he's going to be back. A slot receiver wouldn't hurt either. Sanchez was brilliant yesterday, and has gotten better with every game since the Atlanta loss, which is the biggest reason for optimism.

very true. he's seemingly the franchise qb you guys (as well as many others) have been needing. a lot of talent, and a quick learner. you guys should be a real threat next year-even moreso than you were this year.
