Va Tech, Boise and Cincy did not look like top 10 teams this week. If Cincy's QB is out you can replace them now.

I base my picks solely on what they've accomplished this year and not what I think they will do from now on. For the record, Georgia Tech would be #11 on my list so I don't think a road loss to them is anything to be embarrassed about.

King Glorious 10-19-2009 01:44 PM

I cannot see any reason to go top 10. I don't think there are 10 good teams. This year is horrible.

1. Alabama
2. Texas
3. Miami
4. USC
5. Florida
6. Oregon
7. Oklahoma
8. Georgia Tech
9. Virginia Tech
10. TCU

I know, crazy for having Oklahoma that high but they've lost three really tough games to good teams and haven't been close to full strength. I really think that they are a good team and with a healthy Bradford, they are one of the best teams. I think they'd probably be #1 or #2 right now and undefeated if he doesn't get hurt.

No crazy to have Miami that high

If they are #11 and beat Va Tech (and they did beat them pretty good) why wouldnt they be reversed?

Oklahoma is not a really good team. Neither is Texas right now. OU completely abandoned the running game on Saturday because it is non-existent for them right now. The Big 12 champion is waiting to be slaughtered in a big bowl game, especially if somehow a UT-Alabama game is for the title.

It is splitting hairs distinguishing between #10 and #11 but GT doesn't break off a 39 yard run on 3rd and 7 and VT could have beat them at their home field. I think VT beats them at home and likely at a neutral site as well. VT has played a very tough schedule and that's why I rewarded them with the 10th spot. It's debatable that GT would even be 5-2 if they played VT's schedule.

I don't think Oklahoma is that good a team in most other years. I don't like this Texas team either. Hell, I haven't even been impressed with Florida for that matter. Iowa is in the top ten and they barely beat Northern Iowa and Arkansas St. Cincinnati and Boise St in the top 10? Seriously? Anyway, I think that with Bradford healthy, they are undefeated now and in championship game position. I think they are better than Texas. I don't see Alabama or Florida slaughtering anyone in the title game unless it's Iowa or Cincinnati or TCU.

KG, have you actually watched the games or are just going by the names on the jerseys? Cincinnati and Boise are really good. Oklahoma is not. End of story. That would be like rewarding Notre Dame with a high ranking because they've lost 2 games in relatively close fashion (even though they only really have 1 good win... and that was life and death at home.)

My top 10 right now:
1. Alabama
2. Florida
3. Texas
4. Boise
5. Cincinnati
6. USC
7. TCU
8. Oregon
9. LSU
10. BYU

Not even the names on the jersey. I just look at the colors. If Cincinnati or Boise played Oklahoma tonight, I'd take Oklahoma and that's even with the backup quarterback. With Bradford, I'd take Oklahoma by double digits over either team. You'd honestly take Boise or Cincinnati over Oklahoma? Over USC?

Neutral field? Yes and yes. This is just an OK USC team by their standards (and they're still 6th in the nation IMO.)
Boise beat a better team than Oklahoma, which currently sits atop the Pac-10 and unless USC gets a little better in a week will likely end the season there, too. I know the rest of their schedule sucks but that really isn't their fault, no one will schedule them. Cincinnati is a tougher defense schedulewise because they've played a bunch of decent-but-not-great teams but I know what I see- they are absolutely pounding people and won't lose before the bowls if Pike is back OK.

Maybe but you said you ranked them on what they had done.

You may think OK is better than Texas but they just lost to them. Which is the whole problem with college football. Too much peoples thinking.

I would take Boise at home over OK or USC. USC isnt that good.

That doesn't mean you throw out where the game was played.

They beat them on the field where the game was scheduled. They rushed for over 300 yards against them. It wasnt some fluke.

And this is the problem with rankings. Results of the games mean less than the opinion of the ranker.

Do computers have opinions as well? The most widely accepted computer rankings is the Sagarin and they have Va Tech ahead of Georgia Tech as well:

Computer rankings are as bad if not worse. Tell the guys who play for Ga Tech that even though they beat Va Tech who is now a 2 loss team, you are still ranked behind them. Whats ironic is that the same NCAA runs a tourney to determine a natl champion and upsets by low seeded teams are highlighted. In football they are shunned. Hell we should have the top 5 Vegas bookmakers write lines for every theoretical game played on a neutral field and use those too. At least they have something on the line in their rankings.

I'd take Boise and Cincinnati by double digits over Oklahoma with their backup qb playing. They couldn't beat BYU with him. Boise and Cincy are both better than BYU. ON the blue turf and Landry Jones playing, Boise would beat OU by 21. USC?? They barely beat a down Ohio State team this year and barely beat a Notre Dame team that plays zero defense. What's so great about them??

King Glorious 10-24-2009 06:34 PM

Damn Hurricanes

Alabama looked like crap. Couldn't get in the end zone at home against Tennessee? There are really no good teams in the entire country. There are just some that are better than others but none that are really good. Bama looked like crap today. Florida looked like it against Arkansas and LSU. Texas could barely beat Oklahoma without Bradford. USC had their hands full with Notre Dame and Ohio St and lost to Washington. Miami couldn't handle Clemson at home. Virginia Tech lost to a Georgia Tech team that completed one pass in the entire game. This is pathetic.

there are some Great defenses but those teams have very average offenses.
this team reminds me very much of Bama's 92 NC team. #1 defense in the country and Don't lose the game on offense. do just enough to win.

I don't think the defenses are all that great. I think it's playing against pathetic offenses that's making them look better. Damn Bama should have lost today. Two blocked field goals in the fourth.

someone on here told me a couple years ago. good teams " Survive and advance".

Bigsmc 10-24-2009 09:09 PM

Iowa looks like they are either going to OT or possibly losing here. MSU just executed the hook and lateral to perfection.

Bigsmc 10-24-2009 09:12 PM

Touchdown Michigan State. 13-9 MSU with 1:37 to go.

NTamm1215 10-24-2009 09:17 PM

I know Texas annually sodomizes Mizzou but they look a bit more like themselves tonight. I think they're pretty good and by the time we get to mid-November they will have been aptly challenged.

i don't think iowa should be so high, considering the game yesterday-as well as a few others they've struggled in this year.
lsu impressed last night, i think they should be included in the top ten.

Crown@club 10-25-2009 02:26 PM

So conference play and winning on the road does not count? You should win no matter what? I don't care if your #1 or #200, its always tough to win on the road. Just ask USC. Especially when they LOSE NEXT WEEK at Oregon!!
