come on...2 weeks rest....I agree with your point, but you are being extreme, and your comments on the Belmont are taking it a little far.

Friesan Fire...don't think he goes.

Right now the great 'Bandini'... looks like Secretariat compared to Dunkirk.

Ha, this is true. But I don't think you can totally discount the horse off one bad performance in the Derby, the same race which about 17 other horses clunked their way around the track.

How am I being extreme?

True, you can't. Obviously he has issues, when a TP trainee doesn't make his debut till 3 you have to think he has soundness issues. Coincidentally just as Bandini did.

Oaklawnfan 05-07-2009 11:02 AM

I think Stew Elliott would be great for MTB. Now there's a story line.

Extreme....this is a silly response to my comment of waiting 5 weeks for the Belmont vs your thought to run back on two weeks rest

If they get Chantal they may as well stay home!!

I think the chief difference between Rags to Riches and Rachel Alexandra is that Rags to Riches had the proven distance breeding. RA is really well bred too though.

I wasn't trying to be coy or sarcastic... if Jess Jackson wrote a check for $10 million, I would be surprised if the Preakness wasn't on the ledger. While I would understand waiting for the Belmont, I think the Preakness makes sense for just as many reasons, if not more.

randallscott35 05-07-2009 11:29 AM

Really is a great storyline.

Helping my price on Big Drama. :)

The article about Wiggins losing her on the Bloodhorse mentions since she'll have to be supplemented, she might not even get in because those horses have last dibs getting into the race?

No Jockey has milked their looks as much as her, I think she has improved abit since riding in So Cal but she's awful and my opinion wouldn't change if she was a he, shemale, martian, ect...

LARHAGE 05-07-2009 12:45 PM

In the Bloodhorse article on Wiggins it says Mike Smith is being mentioned to ride Mine That Bird.

King Glorious 05-07-2009 12:54 PM

Question. Say 14 enter the Preakness and Rachel can't get in. Would you let Borel back on Mine that Bird even though he was ready to abandon you for the filly?

Does Borel have to be let out of his committment to Mine that Bird in order to ride Rachel?

Isn't there some kind of penalty that stewards give a jockey for not honoring a call? Does it work in reverse?

sumitas 05-07-2009 01:18 PM

It looks like the connections of Rachel Alexandra are getting intoxicated by her success .

I'm sure Mike will use the entire 7 - 8 path then....He's almost as brutal as Chantal is.

You should've been paying attention to Drugs:

Gales will be unloading on Mine That Bird.

Afterall - he might just be the single best horse Bennie L Woolley Jr. has ever trained!

Too late now.

gales0678 05-07-2009 02:28 PM

fat - look at how he closed in the KY Derby , just like Secretariat

I hope that these horse don't get ruined like the one's that ran against Big Red in the TC

remember Sham in the Belmont , he was like a little kid out there running against Big Red , if Mike Smith doesn't botch this next Sat , i think we could get a TC winner this year fat

marty marty marty marty marty marty marty!!!!! ahhhhhhhhhhhh

I'm sorry... I'm going to give Mine That Bird the benefit of the doubt as to being a good horse, and let him prove me right or wrong.

But please dont compare him to secretariat... try not to even let that thought pop up in your head... it will only make things worse!!

lori help me out kid, can you find the fastest last 1/4's or 6f in the last 20 -40yrs in the derby the horse was flying like a freight train

slotdirt 05-07-2009 02:45 PM

I'm actually half willing to buy the oxygen deprevation training angle on Mine that Bird, incidentally.

I'm sorry I opened this can of worms by comparing final half times of this year's Derby with those of Ghostzapper and others. I should be banned.

honey I agree with you that the horse was flying.

But how can you compare a horse who was 4th in the Sunland Park derby to maybe the greatest thoroughbred of all time.

And just because the last 1/2 mile was in secretariat like speed... you have to incorporate the FINAL time for the whole race... which was like 3 full seconds slower than Secretariat.. or 18 lenghts slower.

thats right buddy, if they would have ran identical races this past saturday and were both in the field, Secretariat would have won the race by 18 lengths. Thats almost like how Rachel Alexandra won her race.

Does that help at all?

and please do not respond with... "he was flying the last 1/2 mile, no?"

Dont worry about it Slotdirt, I'm pretty sure the person living underneath Gales apartment is running a meth lab in there and the fumes are traveling up.

gales0678 05-07-2009 02:49 PM

aren't races in the mud going to be slower than on a fast track?

i have no idea, but the track super said the track was wet/fast.

Also I gauruntee or however you spell it, that Secretariat would not have run 3 seconds slower if the track had been wet.

Probably would have run the same time.

ok fair eneough , im not saying he is Secretariat , what i am trying to say is , if he runs past the same cast of characters in the prekaness the same way as he did in the ky derby won't those horses feel as though they can't win going into the belmont - won't they know they are to pardon the phraze boys against a man???

i mean he didn't beat them , he drubbed them , someome who saw it live said he would have continued opening up on them if they went around again
