The Bid 11-03-2008 07:32 AM

Dutrow makes it possible to buy mediocrity and still be successful, not that Stardom Bound is mediocre. However, he has moved up a lot of junk that IEAH paid a premium for. I do not think there is another trainer in the country that can tie one together or move one up like Dutrow

Terranova's horses always look very nice, and from all accounts hes a good caretaker and a nice guy. That being said hes not the guy you send a 5.7 million dollar horse to, at least not when you have Dutrow sitting shotgun.

If she makes 1.0 mil on the track next year which is a isn't likely but clearly possible her first foal couldn't possibly sell for less then a mil even bred to DrugS. In 24 months they could argueably return 35 to 40% of her purchase price have a mare worh not less the 3.0mil in foal with another million dollar plus foal to come in 11 months.

IEAH isn't looking to strike it rich with her they are just looking to stay in public eye with recognizable names

They sold Ariege for $1.8 mil . So the net outlay for SB then is $4 mil .

Your assumption of million dollar foals is aiming really high. What do you think Better than Honours 09 foal will be worth? Most likely they are balancing off the profits of BB to avoid taxes but on its own it is a terrible play.

Do you honestly think they had a hugely profitable year?

How much money did they take in from investors? Between that and the BB purchase and sale of some of the mares last night they may have more income than expenses.

It seems a little disappointing that some of the prices paid were in number only not the actual transaction of money. Didn't understand that till today on how things worked but now i do. Oh well was still fun to watch it.

Maybe. It's obviously hard to tell. Start with the, roughly, $5 million they lost on Court Vision. Figure the money they earned with Big Brown equalled what they spent for their three quarters of him. Now, obviously they spent the money last year, so I guess you have to look at it as profit. So between their share of the small percentage of him sold they maybe made a million over Court Vision's cost. Pure Clan may have made enough on the track to cover what they paid for their share of her. Benny the Bull and Kip Deville made over two million between them. There were some expensive horses mixed in that did nothing that I can think of.

Tough game!

On the other hand, they have some valuable assets......Benny not included. Somehow I don't think he's worth the $10 million they claimed in the NY Times interview.

You can bet they have many accountants figuring how to tell the IRS they lost money at the same time they are telling their investors they made money.

Court Vision was last year wasnt it? I would put Bennys worth at around $3 million and that is pretty generous. Have they announced where he is going to stand?
