Just spoke to Tom's Dad and he's out of surgery. All went well, although the surgeon told him the bladder was completely "dead" and very infected.."one of the worse he has seen" A lot of infection around the area and they are a little concerned about the liver but feel the antibiotics should take care of it.
It was the less invasive procedure that DocICU described and he may go home tomorrow or Thursday. Will look to post pics of bladder as soon as I can in Esoteric  |
Best wishes to Tom for a speedy recovery... And I'm sure that just like LBJ before him, he will regale us with views of his scar soon!

A Quick recovery sir!

Ouch! Speedy recovery, bud.

The surgeon is likely describing the dreaded gangrenous gallbladder that could have perforated (had a hole in it for the infection to spread throughout his body) if left to fester much longer. Sounds like they got a diffcult decision done flawlessly as they didn't wait too long but gave the antibiotics enough time to make him a surgical candidate. Tom is obviously a lucky guy on this one as a perforated gallbladder is potentially life threatening. He'll be his special self by the weekend. |
Great news Bob.
Thanks Hang in there Scavy. |

here's to a speedy recovery. Hopefully this timeline post will rival his Vegas timeline post....:)

Glad he's okay after the surgery. I saw him at Keeneland, heard about the first ER visit, and he seemed fine at that time. Could have been very different, glad he went back to the hospital right away, hope you get better post-surgery very, very soon Tom!

The tales of woe and human suffering could be accentuated with appropriate visual evidence of the visceral calamity. This visual was entitled as: My Infected Gall Bladder... Enjoy dinner. |

This is like a scene from "Fight Club"...
"I am Tom's festering, diseased gall bladder..." |
My gall bladder has been reduced
to a tiny little image icon... We cant handle the truth. -Colonel Jessup |
Removing the gall bladder is a pretty cool surgery to watch. I hear that is can be cumbersome after the surgery when you eat. Since your body cannot produce bile anymore, one may get diarrhea right after eating. Can be a real pain in the butt--no pun attended. Scavs will be fine. He will just have to watch his diet after this. I wish him well and I hope he likes beats.

I too like some others missed this.... Speedy recovery wishes from the Deep South... But if he could make it to Keeneland ... He should be able to peruse the forms/figs by this weekend to be able to enlighten and amuse us; as well as, bestow other lines of wit and wisdom upon us. It definitely ain't the same without you.... however it was kinda neat to see some people actually try to be pleasant....lol... again.... get better soon pal

Just an update as Bob has already mentioned all the well wishes, I can't wait to read them.
I have been discharged and I am home, hopefully about to get about 15 hours of sleep as I didn't get one red minute of sleep in the hospital. While this was my first appearance at a hospital ever, lets hope that it is my last. I just wanted to thank everyone for their well wishes, it is greatly appreciated. FYI, if anyone is trying to call me, the hospital lost my cell phone, my IPOD and my favorite belt. |

In all seriousness, glad to hear all is well enough for you to be comfortable back in your own domain. |
