True, and the second choice on the ML in that race is by Action This Day, and the third choice is out of a Strike the Gold mare. None of those pedigrees exactly scream 4.5f to me.
I haven't really looked at the Sunday card much yet, but at first glance that race seems tough.

How much do you want to bet that his next race is at Saratoga - on a conventional dirt surface?

I think its a bit unilikely unless baffert just feels the horse cant run on those tracks, the owners go to del mar all the time.

Weren't both Street Cry and Tabasco Cat precocious 2yos? Street Cry couldn't have run further than 5.5f in his debut (which he won).

I think both of them were in the money in the BCJ, and I think Tabasco Cat won some minor stakes race at 2. Street Cry put together a pretty decent 2yo campaign too if I remember correctly.
There is certainly no reason that a colt with Desert Party's pedigree couldn't be a very nice 2yo runner, but it seems probable that he will do better at the 2yo races later in the year when the distances stretch out a bit.
That being said, a big effort from him this weekend wouldn't exactly be a big shocker.

Or maybe even Saarland.

I realize you are probably being facetious, but to anyone with half a brain, it is completely obvious which parent Indian Blessing gets her ability from.

However.

I bet you they ship east with this horse, like they did with IB.

Whoa...what a debut. Harty actually made an appearance, at least it look like him in the winner's circle

I would put him as the favorite for the Arl Wash Futurity though...

But my guess is that he is being shipped to California (with Harty) or maybe Saratoga....

Sooner or later they are going to learn about shipping horses over there, hopefully they don't ship this one.

I know the only reason he was at Arlington was because of the polytrack

It might be Harty's clever way of latching on to the colt, seeing how he can point out the recent Colonel John's successful campaign towards the Derby (ignoring the actual end result, obviously).

Nonetheless, you have to think they'll be desperate to run the horse in Godolphin blue. They even took the modest Zada Belle out of Harty's barn just for winning a first condition allowance off a 2-year layoff.

a nice firster by lion heart won today at churchill....
