You didn't like the horse Mint Lane beat? Weren't you hyping up Admirality before the race?

If the figure is to be believed - the horse that impressed me in there was Unbridled's Heart. I was a little skeptical of him - but if the fig is true he's pretty good.

i disagree... casino drive, second career race.. first vs winners... first in this country.... connections say he was 80% fit.. and he ran that race... what was he then ?

also i would not say hyping.. i thought he could win with a good setup, when contessa's speed scratched, i backed off a bit

jcs11204 06-15-2008 09:23 PM

Big deal - he ran a 101 beyer vs. bad horses (unless Mint Lane miraculously became a good horse over night) with an easy set-up. . . how was that "superfreaky" or whatever you called it. . . and then what happened to him? I know the connections say he's coming back for the Breeder's Cup - but I'd be shocked if we ever see him here again. He's fragile and unproven and I refuse to call him a monster at this point (so I'll also take back my praise of UB's Heart - he's probably nothing special).

mint lane was always good, he won at pimlico, beat ichabod, who came back to run third... the pp's show mint lane has been solid. casino drive... 101 beyer, second career start at 70-80% fit ?

hockey2315 06-15-2008 10:31 PM

It's not a good idea to bank on this 70-80% fit thing. And if beating Icabad Crane is the measure of a good horse this game is really in trouble.

Danzig 06-15-2008 10:31 PM

that's if you believe the trainer on the 70-80% fit stuff. do you really think that's the case?

You can't really believe anything a trainer says about his/her horses. . . (Sadly I didn't listen to my own advice today.)

casino drives connections appear to be legit, and only care about the horse.. unlike most trainers over here

Yeah, and that led to a near last-to-first winner at 32-1.

Plus in the other two dirt races, the fractions were VERY slow, and the track had been playing slowly for days.

I'm not saying he flew, but I'd call his pace quicker than average.

It has nothing to do with caring about the horse - how can they quantify a horse's fitness level like that? Especially when he's so lightly raced?

He was unopposed on a clear lead under mild rating and making his own pace - when that happens again in one of his races let me know.

It's happened in nearly every single one of his races, so why couldn't it happen again? Are you saying he just keeps running into fields with no speed?

this crop is so bad, well besides casino who is in japan.... but anyway this crop is so bad that mint lane might be the best 3 yr old we have right now......
actually there is a MINESHAFT RUnning tomorrow at deleware, he broke his maiden last time out with a 86 beyer... he might be a top 5, 3yr old right now... its either the second or third race, small group

Those Japs rock those horses out.

When I was living in Australia, a trainer told me that anytime a horse was returned from Japan or Hong Kong that it would lose it's mind and cower in the stall if an asian walked by or was anywhere around.

Apparently they are pretty rough on them, this is just hearsay though. And more Hong Kong than Japan due to the constant back and forth with the Aussies and Hong Kong runners.

I'll wait for his next race before I go crowning anyone, but I don't see how one can't be impressed with his race on Friday.
