He is brazilian record holder for 2.400m on the turf and won GP São Paulo and GP Brasil (the biggest brazilian races) in the same year as a 3 yo colt...he was awarded brazilian horse of the year and champion 3yo...in 9 starts he won 5 (2 G1, a G2, and a listed), got 3 second places and his worst position here was a fourth place in the Derby....it's impossible to imagine him as a last place in a mediocre race... But with his new owners...he is playing a rabbit for his barn fellows....he is dueling with front runners...and of course...this is not his characteristic...an he got completely tired in the final stretch I don't know why the sheiks paid over a million (maybe next to the 2 millions) dollars to do that with the poor horse...i can't really understand why is that... If, at least, he was running his way....at the back of the pack....i would not argue....but playing the front runner....tsc tsc tsc |

There's always the Blatant factor though.... he accidentally won, hit the board a few times, while being a rabbit so maaaaaybe..... Hopefully they'll see it as a mistake and change the plans for him. |
Day 3...
http://www.emiratesracing.com/eq/RaceCards.cfm ERA form comments..... LORD ADMIRAL (USA) 2001 b h El Prado – Lady Ilsley (Trempolino) 38 starts 4-13-8 Returns for his third Dubai campaign where previous efforts have seen him second in the Group 2 Al Fahidi Fort, Group 2 Jebel Hatta and Listed Zabeel Mile. His win strike rate is not impressive, however he has always raced in the best of company and definitely has the class to win this. Yet to win beyond 1,600m but has been placed up to 2,000m. SENOR DALI (IRE) 2003 ch h Peintre Celebre – Far Fetched (Distant Relative) 13 starts 3-1-1 Ninth in this race last year on his second Dubai start before leading throughout over 2,000m in handicap company here. Finished fifth in strong handicap on only subsequent run at this track and hasn’t been seen since early March. With new stable and this his first run for 11 months so fitness may be query but has ability. THE PIRATE (DEN) 2003 b h Primatico – Medinova (Mas Media) 15 starts 4-3-2 Danish competitor who has good form in home country but disappointed on latest effort in Songline Classic in Sweden. Has won up to 2,000m but facing massive rise in class here. Form hard to gauge and on ratings looks safely held. MONTPELLIER (IRE) 2003 b g Montjeu – Ring Of Esteem (Mark Of Esteem) 17 starts 2-3-3 Showed decent form in strong handicap company in England last year when trained by Ed Dunlop. Final run in UK disappointed on polytrack at Kempton before being sent to Dubai and present trainer. Not run since early September and not suited by the set weights here but comes from a stable in form and can manage a place. GHARIR (IRE) 2002 gr h Machiavellian – Summer Sonnet (Baillamont) 14 starts 2-1-3 Has shown good form since arriving in UAE, including a second behind Sushisan over 2,000m here last carnival. First two runs this campaign were good, winning over 1,600m at Jebel Ali before a third in the Listed Jebel Ali Mile. Beaten a long way when sixth over 1,800m last start on dirt but is clearly better than that. Steps up to group company here but was third in the French 2000 Guineas as a 3YO. Must be considered. JAY PEG (SAF) 2003 b h Camden Park – Laptop Lady (Al Mufti) 13 starts 8-2-0 High class South African making Dubai debut here. Winner of the Cape Guineas and Derby as a three-year-old before being beaten in three subsequent runs against the older horses – all at Group 1 level. Has impressive record and although has to concede three kilograms due to the Group 1 penalty looks the one to beat. Stable won this with Linngari in 2006. KING JOCK (USA) 2001 dk b/br g Ghazi – Glen Kate (Glenstal) 45 starts 8-6-4 Thoroughly genuine type returning for fifth Dubai campaign. Winner over 1,500m this course in 2005 and 2006 before returning last season to win National Day Cup – HH The President Cup double in Abu Dhabi. Form after that was very good and on his return to Ireland maintained that level. Resumed on dirt last start and ran well despite not being suited and return to turf here will benefit. Has raced well in Europe in this company and forward showing can be expected. TESLIN (IRE) 2004 b g In The Wings – Yukon Hope (Forty Niner) 13 starts 3-3-1 Formerly prepared in UK by Brian Ellison, form was good there winning three from 12 before being sold and sent to Dubai. At first run for new trainer turned in impressive performance when held up and getting to line well to finish second behind impressive stablemate Al Shemali last week. Bound to have come on for that and although taking on toughest assignment to date has claims. Stable won this with Sabadilla in 2000, All The Way in 2001 and Naheef in 2003. YASOODD (GB) 2003 br h Inchinor - Needwood Epic (Midyan) 19 starts 2-3-2 Strike rate doesn’t look impressive but is a genuine type who always runs a good race. Form during last carnival was good and can overlook first run this season when unsuited by dirt course when fourth behind the impressive Lucky Find. Needed that run to prepare him for this and although not having won for near two years, he can strike back to winning form in this. DAVIDOFF (GER) 2004 b c Montjeu – Dapprima (Shareef Dancer) 9 starts 2-2-3 German-trained horse with quite impressive form. Winner in this class last year and wasn’t far away in German Derby. Not seen since last start third in this grade at Hoppegarten. Never finished further back than fifth in nine career starts and must be respected in this. |
Crisford, on Happy Boy.....
Simon says..... “He will join Saeed bin Suroor at Al Quoz for the remainder of the Carnival and be aimed at the last round of the Maktoum Challenge where he will carry the colours of Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum. “We will then decide on future targets.” |
A bit on Jay Peg...
http://www.sahorseracing.com/columnist.asp?col=9 PPs are posted on the pps thread. |
Lamico Steve could do very well running off 105.. Hard Top giving him a pound.. Plus, I cant wait to see Ea - my 2nd favourite Godolphin horse running tomorrow (try searching his name on the racingpost website!). What will most likely happen him tomorrow if he is cranked up is that he'll meet horrendous traffic in running, fly home late and be considered a most unlucky loser..
|
Doesn't surprise me what the sheikhs have done to that poor horse. Have money will buy anything is their attitude and that isn't what racing should be about.
Just about to have a look at the cards for tomorrow, so I can post my selections quickly |
On Conroy, from our friends at the ERA.
He was 4th in R1. :) Evergreen Conroy bids to roll back the years 07:47 - 31 January 2008 The evergreen Conroy, arguably the most popular horse in training in the UAE in recent years, embarks on what will surely be the final chapter of his remarkable racing career at Nad Al Sheba tomorrow when contesting the opening 1000-metre dirt handicap. The 10-year-old gelded son of Gone West is fast approaching 30 career starts since making his debut back in 2001, when runner-up in a maiden. That was after being sold to his owner Mohd Al Jamali for the princely sum of AED 30,000 having not raced for Godolphin or then John Sadler, who he was originally based with. Al Jamali had put the colt into training with Adi Selvaratnam and the new partnership was rewarded with a win on his second start. Conroy improved throughout that season to win both the prestigious Jebel Ali Sprint and Mahab Al Shimaal. That gained him an invite to the Group 1 Dubai Golden Shaheen on World Cup night when he was ninth to Caller One. The following season, he again won the Mahab Al Shimaal and contested the Dubai Golden Shaheen, when 10th to State City. However, 2004 was arguably the pinnacle of his career when winning the Mahab Al Shimaal for a third time and finishing third to Our New Recruit in the Dubai Golden Shaheen. In 2006 he was runner-up in the Al Shindagha Sprint before one more crack at the Dubai Golden Shaheen, but only beat one home behind winner Proud Power Too. Last season he had two starts for Tony Manuel but is back with Selvaratnam this season who reports him in good shape: “He worked very well last week but is obviously getting old now. “He has had so many problems over the years and owes nobody anything. It would be nice to think we could get him back near his best but that is a big ask at this stage of his career. “He is enjoying his work and is ready for a race. We will just have to see how he gets on but I think he will run well.” His last handicap appearance was a winning one in 2005 – off a mark of 111. He runs off 95 here, so who knows - with Selvaratnam’s sprinters firing on all cylinders - a remarkable comeback may not be an impossible dream. In the same race, Frankie Dettori partners Robert Cowell’s Canadian Danehill and the trainer revealed: “Frankie recommended I brought him over for the Carnival so here we are. I had a winner with Forever Phoenix last time we came over so maybe lightning can strike twice.” Mike De Kock’s Drayton has been gelded since his European campaign which included a fifth in the Group 1 Golden Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot and he looks well worth trying over this trip having shown a lot of pace. Also on the card, the 2400-metre turf handicap features an intriguing clash between John Oxx’s lightly-raced four-year-old Mourilyan and Brazilian Group 1 winner L’Amico Steve. |

Form comments, from our friends at the ERA.....
Maktoum Challenge R2 ETIHAAD (GB) 2002 b h Dubai Millennium - Elfaslah (Green Desert) 3 starts 1-0-0 A half-brother to a Dubai World Cup winner in Almutawakel and by a Dubai World Cup winner in Dubai Millennium who impressed when making his UAE debut before another good effort when stepping up to this grade when fourth to Happy Boy in the opening round. Followed up a week later but disappointed when seventh in handicap company on the turf. Back to dirt here and if he can reproduce his opening round effort he has sound claims. SAHARA SPHINX (USA) 2003 ch h Giant’s Causeway - Sculpture (Deputy Minister) 8 starts 2-1-0 Won first two starts of this season in lower grades but disappointed since. Fair effort last start when fifth in Jebel Ali Mile last Friday but this is harder and needs to improve. RAMPALLION (GB) 2003 b g Daylami – Minute Waltz (Sadler’s Wells) 7 starts 3-1-0 Impressed on first start for new trainer and first run on this surface last start when winning over this course and distance in handicap company. Came from well back there and suited by fast pace on that occasion but has shown ability in the past and can handle rise in grade here. DELUDE (IRE) 1998 ch g Be My Guest – Deceive (Machiavellian) 56 starts 9-8-7 Veteran campaigner who returned to winner’s list for first time since November 2006 last start when easily accounting for Alo Pura in handicap company. Stepping up group company here and others appear to have better claims. QUORUM (GER) 2003 b h Acatenango – Quest Of Fire (Rainbow Quest) 11 starts 3-2-0 Impressed on his first season of racing in 2006/2007. Best of three runs this season was two starts back when second at Abu Dhabi. Disappointed last start in handicap company last Thursday and stepping up in grade here. IMPERIAL STAR (IRE) 2003 br h Fantastic Light – Out West (Gone West) 10 starts 3-1-2 Having first run for new stable here and form when last in work was quite good. Hasn’t started since his fourth in Group 3 company on all-weather at Kempton in early September. Winner in Listed company and all three wins over 2,000m. Has solid form on all-weather in England and stays under notice here. LUCKY FIND (SAF) 2003 ch g Rich Man’s Gold – Little Erna (Ernani) 10 starts 5-4-0 Quality South African performer whose final run there was second in the Group 1 Daily News. On first run in Dubai and first on the dirt he could not have been more impressive recording an easy victory over the above average Third Set over this course and distance. Bound to be fitter for that and although this is harder and he received all the breaks last start he appears a horse of the highest order and will be hard to beat in this. WEST VIRGINIA (USA) 2001 dk b/br h Tomorrows Cat – Wild and Wonderful (Kennedy Road) 27 starts 7-6-5 Ex American-trained horse with good form in Graded company there including placings at Grade 1 level. Not raced since October 2006 and fitness the query here. EU TAMBEM (pictured) (BRZ) 2003 b h Wild Event – Charmosa (Fain) 9 starts 7-1-0 Argentine Derby winner in 2006 and then could not have been more impressive when coming to Dubai and on debut at last year’s Carnival beat the older horses in the third round of the Al Maktoum Challenge. Returned to own age at only other run but disappointed when well back behind Asiatic Boy in the UAE Derby. Could obviously be hard to beat here. JACK SULLIVAN (USA) 2001 ch g Belong To Me – Provisions (Devil’s Bag) 33 starts 7-6-3 Outstanding performer on this course winning this race twice in 2005 and 2006. Was also successful in the Burj Nahaar in 2006 and fourth in 2005 Dubai World Cup. Finished well back in Japan Cup Dirt three starts back but subsequent appearances in England were good. Disappointed on first run back here when caught wide from a high draw and tired in final stages when 13th of 16 in opening round. Better suited by smaller field here and extra furlong but place claims appear best. BOSCOBEL (GB) 2004 ch c Halling – Dunnes River (Danzig) 8 starts 5-1-0 Quality three-year-old of last season making debut for new trainer here and having first run on dirt. Led throughout to win King Edward VII Stakes at Royal Ascot before his fourth in Irish Derby behind Soldier Of Fortune. Only run since then disappointed and obviously something amiss when distant last behind Lucarno in the Great Voltigeur in August. Had won up to 2,400m but this trip is average winning distance. Has the speed to overcome wide draw here and should be able to position nicely in race. Choice of stable jockey. Must be considered. KANDIDATE (GB) 2002 b h Kabool – Valleyrose (Royal Academy) 41 starts 8-1-6 Scored surprise all-the-way win in this race last year before his sixth in Dubai World Cup. Failed to win in six starts since then in England, Singapore and Japan but form has been far from disappointing, excusing his latest run in Japan Cup Dirt. Has always shown best form in Dubai and has proven that this track suits and again must be respected. |

Etched set to make seasonal debut in UAE 2,000 Guineas by Jason Ford GODOLPHIN'S Kentucky Derby hope Etched is set to make his seasonal debut on Thursday in a hot-looking contest for the UAE 2,000 Guineas at the Dubai Carnival. The son of Forestry won both his two-year-old starts for former trainer Kiaran McLaughlin in New York before being shipped to Dubai and joining Saeed Bin Suroor. Only a 20-1 chance for America's most famous race, Etched is set to face a stern assignment first time out in the 1m dirt race. His rivals will include the Mike de Kock-trained Honour Devil and Doug Watson's Aquino, first and third in the designated trial three weeks ago. With only one turf race at Nad Al Sheba on Thursday, a six-race card could well feature less British and Irish interest than usual. However, the Mick Channon-trained Halicarnassus, last seen in the Japan Cup, could make his UAE debut in the 1m2f handicap. Awwww..... >> ARGENTINA'S seven-time Grade 1 winner Latency has settled in well in Dubai according to Nestor Chazarreta, the foreman supervising preparations for the World Cup. Latency has been a regular sight working on the main track at Nad Al Sheba, and a tendency to look around him for the first week was explained by Chazarreta. “He was looking for his pony,” he said. “He has been ponied throughout his racing career at home but quarantine protocol does not allow us to bring his pony. It took him a few days to realise the pony was not with him, that was all. He has settled down now as you can see. “Everything is on track,” added Chazarreta. “The third round of the Maktoum Challenge on Super Thursday remains his target, then the World Cup. We are carrying the hopes of a nation and we believe this is the horse to do it. He really is a superstar and knows it.” |
Seachange leaves for Dubai on Sunday, and will run in the Jebel Hatta on March 6 before the Duty Free.
Hope she does us proud. |

Form comments, ERA.....
Paveroc (GB) 2005 b c Royal Applause – Take Liberties (Warning) 11 starts 1-1-0 Former Stan Moore inmate, who ran respectably in some top juvenile races in the UK last year. Made his UAE bow when finishing second to Ablaan here on January 3, and showed the benefit of that experience on dirt, when coming through the kickback to post a reasonable effort in fifth behind Honour Devil last time. A similar show would be an achievement. Siberian Tiger (Ire) 2005 b c Xaar – Flying Millie (Flying Spur) 8 starts 3-0-1 Trainer has a decent record in the UAE, and his representative was a Listed winner on his penultimate effort. Was stepped up in grade on his last start when coming fifth of six in a Group 1 race in France. Will be dropping down in trip here but may need this outing. Change Alley (USA) 2005 b c Elusive Quality – Fortune (Night Shift) 5 starts 0-1-0 Has run twice for new local connections coming fourth behind Ablaan on his first start here, before finishing 20 lengths behind Honour Devil on his last outing. Has it all to do. Etched (USA) 2005 ch c Forestry – Unbridled Elaine (Unbridled’s Song) 2 starts 2-0-0 Won both his races very impressively when trained by Kiaran McLaughlin in the US, including a Grade 3. Has long been earmarked for this race by Godolphin, as well as being a flagship three-year-old for the bang in-form Saeed bin Suroor stable. A big imposing colt, who could be anything, and is likely to give the Mike De Kock string most to fear. Ablaan (USA) 2005 ch c Sunday Break – La Danzadora (El Sembrador) 5 starts 2-1-0 Showed very little for powerhouse stable in three starts in the UK, before winning two from two here. Neither time was overly impressive, just doing enough to get the job done. Has long been touted as a UAE Classic contender, and this extra 200m will be right up his alley. Honour Devil (ARG) 2004 b c Honour And Glory – Diamond Fitz (Fitzcarraldo) 2 starts 2-0-0 Impressed hugely following his debut win in Argentina - a maiden in which the form worked out very well. Was purchased afterwards by the same connections as Asiatic Boy, and last month duly won the same race the UAE Triple Crown winner had won 12 months previously. Is inexperienced but has huge potential and faces many of the rivals he put to the sword here three weeks ago. Free Tussy (ARG) 2004 br c Freelancer – Perlada (Cipayo) 4 starts 2-0-1 Joined Herman Brown after landing his last two starts on the dirt in Argentina, including a Group 3 by seven lengths in August. However, he dropped out tamely after disputing the early lead with the eventual winner Honour Devil and third Aquino on his UAE debut last month. Presumably better than that. New Jersey (IRE) 2005 br c Statue Of Liberty – Shinkoh Rose (Warning) 9 starts 1-2-0 Formerly trained in the UK, where he ran nine times for one win. Has a Listed race second to his name, but looks to be up against it here on his first start in the UAE in a classy-looking race. Is taking a big step up in trip too, but trainer is in form. Numaany (USA) ch c AP Indy – Munnaya (Nijinsky) 2 starts 1-0-0 Formerly ran under the Darley banner for trainer Tom Albertrani in the US, where he won the second of his two starts over 200m longer than today’s trip. Hard to gauge on his UAE bow, and looks Godolphin’s third string on jockey bookings. Aquino (URU) 2004 ch c First American – Perla Fighter (Irish Fighter) 3 starts 2-0-1 A Listed winner in Uruguay by a wide margin on his last start there, and was the subject of very bullish comments from his trainer in the build-up to his UAE bow. He looked set to battle it out with Honour Devil all the way up the straight, but eventually gave way and may have needed the race. Has stamina to prove now but looks an exciting prospect. Choisky (IRE) 2005 b c Choisir – Vinicky (Kingmambo) 12 starts 0-0-2 Formerly trained in the UK where he ran 11 times with no success. Finished 25 lengths behind Honour Devil on his UAE debut last month and cannot be considered. Palm Court (GB) 2005 b c Green Desert – Amenixa (Linamix) 11 starts 2-1-2 Formerly trained in the UK, where he won two of his 11 starts in lowly company. Was third behind Ablaan on his UAE debut but looks outclassed here. Royal Vintage (SAF) 2004 ch c Rich Man’s Gold – Derry Wood (Fort Wood) 2 starts 2-0-0 A winner of both his starts in his native South Africa, the latter coming in Grade 2 company. Has been likened to 2004 UAE Derby winner Lundy’s Liability by his trainer and fancied to take a hand in the finish on his UAE and dirt bow here, despite a wide draw. Mutabayen (USA) 2005 b/br c Doneraile Court – La Frou Frou (Night Shift) 4 starts 1-0-0 By the same sire as last week’s UAE 1000 Guineas heroine Cocoa Beach. Ran three times in the UK, where he managed a fifth in Group 2 company. Made his UAE bow here, when finishing ninth behind Ablaan, and looks to have it all to do here. My Indy (ARG) 2004 br c Indygo Shiner – My Light (Southern Halo) 3 starts 2-1-0 Bought by Godolphin after winning both his starts in Argentina, including a 1800m Grade 2 on ground described as heavy in October. Appeared to lack the pace to move into a challenging position on his first start here in the race won by Honour Devil, but came home well to claim second when getting into the clear. Appears the Godolphin second string and will do well to reverse placings with Honour Devil Toolittletoolate (USA) 2005 b/br c Harlan’s Holiday – Spirit In The Sky (Gulch) 4 starts 1-0-0 Won one of his three starts in the UK before finishing down the field behind Honour Devil on his first run here. Drawn 16 of 16 and appears to have little chance. Reserves El Victory (AUS) 2004 b c Galileo – Bountiful Lady (Irish River) 2 starts 0-0-0 Has shown little on his two starts, both coming here, and will be outclassed if gets a run. A nice birthday for him. :) Well done! |
Poor thing...
Eagle to miss Sheema Eagle Mountain, a short-head runner-up in the Group 1 Champion Stakes on his last start, will miss the Dubai Sheema Classic (sponsored by Nakheel), according to trainer Mike De Kock. The big hope fractured his pelvis while exercising on Saturday morning, and his trainer commented: "It's a real blow as he was coming along nicely. "He has top-class form which is in the book for everyone to see, and he would have been one of our big hopes for Dubai World Cup night. "But we'll give him plenty of rest and get him back for the early summer in Europe, and then aim him at the major races at the end of the season, like the Arc and Breeders' Cup." |
Some really nice entries for Thursday. :)

* * * Champion Kiwi Seachange settles in Dubai Champion New Zealand mare Seachange has arrived safely in Dubai where she is scheduled to have two starts next month, according to New Zealand Racing News. Seachange is set to make her Dubai debut in the Group 2 $US200,000 Jebel Hatta (1777m) at Nad Al Sheba on March 6 ahead of the the Group 1 $US5 million Dubai Duty Free over the same course and distance on March 29. “She’ll be in quarantine for 48 hours so that will be a crucial time,” Rick Williams, racing manager for Seachange’s owner-breeder Dick Karreman told NZ Racing News. “She’s under veterinary care and if she has no elevated temperature or such then everything will press on as planned. “Ralph (trainer Ralph Manning) will be over there on Friday and he’ll work out a training program for her then.” Seachange was flown to Dubai via Singapore in the care of her groom and regular trackwork rider, Jayne Ivil. “Jayne sent a text when she arrived and said Seachange had slept most of the way, which is great,” Williams said. “She said it was 25 hours from the time she left the stable in New Zealand to being unloaded at the airport in Dubai. “The flight was good and we’ve just got to wait now and see how she comes through the next 48 hours.” Ted Durcan, the leading rider in Dubai, will be aboard Seachange in both starts. |

Form comments, from our friends at the ERA.....
LINNGARI (IRE) 2002 ch h Indian Ridge – Lidakiya (Kahyasi) 22 starts 10-2-1 Winner of this event for the past two years and favoured to make it a hat-trick here. Record on the turf at Nad Al Sheba is first class and returned in brilliant style on second night of the Carnival with strong performance to beat the smart Divine Jury in a 100+ handicap. Back to set weight conditions here and although has to concede a three kilogram penalty for a Group 1 success last summer, has the class to make him the one to beat. BIG TIMER (USA) 2004 ch g Street Cry – Moonflute (The Minstrel) 9 starts 3-0-1 Group 3 winner as a two-year-old in 2006 but yet to win since. His two runs at this year’s carnival have merit and he hasn’t enjoyed the best of luck in either outing. Stepping up markedly in grade here and weights against him, so place claims appear best. DANAK (IRE) 2003 dk b/br h Pivotal – Daniysha (Doyoun) 7 starts 5-0-0 Won first five races in Ireland (including a defeat of Lord Admiral at Group 3 level at Leopardstown) before suffering first defeat when fourth to Notnowcato in Group 1 Tattersalls Gold Cup at the Curragh last May. Only run since then was unplaced behind Jambalaya in the Arlington Million. Sold after that run and having first run for new trainer here. Is a horse with plenty of ability and firm surface will suit. One to keep an eye on. LORD ADMIRAL (USA) 2001 b h El Prado – Lady Ilsley (Trempolino) 39 starts 5-13-8 Second to Linngari in this two years ago and last year was placed in Zabeel Mile and Jebel Hatta. Showed he had returned better than ever with his impressive performance to defeat Gharir in the Group 3 Al Rashidiya last start. This is harder, but has shown his ability at this level in the past and will again be prominent. WARRIORS KEY (IRE) 2004 b c Key of Luck – Warrior Wings (Indian Ridge) 12 starts 2-2-3 Lightly-raced type having first run for new trainer here. Form towards end of last campaign in Ireland was only fair including third behind Latino Magic (reserve in handicap tomorrow night) and he will need to improve sharply to figure in this. ROYAL OATH (USA) 2003 b h Kingmambo – Sherkiya (Goldneyev) 11 starts 3-2-0 Brilliant winner of the Royal Hunt Cup at Royal Ascot over this distance last year and showed good form in three subsequent runs when stepped up to Group company. Certainly has the ability to be involved here, though fitness the query against many of main rivals who have had the benefit of a run. ADMIRALOFTHEFLEET (USA) 2004 b c Danehill – Rafina (Mr Prospector) 10 starts 3-1-1 Formerly trained in Ireland by Aidan O’Brien where he won Group 3 Dee Stakes at Chester as a three-year-old and the Group 2 Royal Lodge Stakes at Ascot at two. Purchased after fourth in Grade 1 Secretariat Stakes and sent to Dubai where he impressed on his first run here when second to Turn On The Style in 95-110 handicap over unsuitable 1200m. Better suited to this trip, bound to be fitter and must be considered. ARCHIPENKO (USA) 2004 b c Kingmambo - Bound (Nijinsky) 9 starts 2-1-0 Another formerly trained in Ireland by Aidan O’Brien where he was used as a pacemaker on a number of occasions, but did win Group 2 Derby Trial at Leopardstown over 2,000m last May. On first run for new trainer in Dubai was always well back and never a threat when 10th behind So Will I in 100+ handicap a fortnight ago. Step up in distance here will suit and while this is harder it wouldn’t surprise to see him improve sharply. ETIHAAD (GB) 2002 b h Dubai Millennium - Elfaslah (Green Desert) 5 start 1-0-0 A half-brother to a Dubai World Cup winner in Almutawakel and by a Dubai World Cup winner in Dubai Millennium. Latest efforts require him to improve markedly to figure against these at level weights. DARK ISLANDER (IRE) 2003 b h Singspiel – Lamanka Miss (Woodman) 16 starts 4-1-2 Winner of the Grade 2 Oak Tree Derby in 2006 but hasn’t managed to be placed since. Will have benefited from his first Dubai run last start when a good fourth to the smart Sentinelese in handicap company three weeks ago under a big weight. Steps up in grade here on that performance but has the ability to cope with that and forward showing would not surprise. Reserves QUEBEC CITIZEN (BRZ) 2003 b h Know Heights – Importanza (Basim) 13 starts 1-5-0 This is far tougher than recent efforts that have seen him unplaced and others preferred. DELUDE (IRE) 1998 ch g Be My Guest – Deceive (Machiavellian) 58 starts 9-8-7 Recent form consistent but in far easier company and others are preferred here at the weights. |
