And that photo shows Toga... It won't be long. |
Here's one for Tim.......

Anybody mention Shaconage? Not only my favorite grey, but maye my favorite horse period over the last few years.
|
And no Black Tie Affair? Come on, people, we're naming great greys and not one of you mention one of the greatest, gamest greys of them all?

How in the heck did we forget him? |

Dunno, El Prado was a decent horse...much better sire than horse on the track.
I'd say if you're ranking the greatest greys of all time, it starts and ends with the Bid. After that, I'll take some combination of Skip Away, Black Tie Affair, and maybe Holy Bull. Then again, I may be forgetting some of the great greys from yesteryear, so perhaps that isn't a complete list at all. |

I still have to figure out what to do with my BTA lifetime PP's signed by both Bailey and Day. I really want to get it framed alongside a picture of the old boy on the track, but I've yet to find a suitable picture of Black Tie Affair anywhere.
|
Slot,
I was looking for a pic of Black Tie Affair when I came across this one... not for you, but for me. http://www.barbaralivingston.com/gal.../TooMuchBling2 |
There are a couple of Black Tie Affair pics on her website, but none of him while racing. I'm tempted to buy an old Bloodhorse magazine and just frame an article out of the magazine with a picture of him on the track.
|
Grey Memo.. especially going 7 1/2 at Hollywood.. Use to run in Silky Sullivan fashion (well maybe not quite that far back)
|
Got another good one. Mizzen Mast.
|
I wasn't born when this one ran, but has anyone heard of Grey Sovereign?
He won eight stakes in England including Coventry S. He was born in 1948. |
No one has probably ever heard of this one. He was supposed to be the second coming of Native Dancer, ( in the Delaware Park circle anyway.)
His name was Leematt and I do believe he won the Carter one year. He was almost all white. |
Absolutely no such thing as a pure "white" horse, unless we're talking albino. Wasn't there an albino named like Jesus Christ or something that ran down in Louisiana the last few years?

Swear I remember reading a Bloodhorse article at some point on a pure white TB running down south somewhere in the last three or four years.

This is an interesting site about white thoroughbreds, they are registered as that, not albinos

In case anyone is interested, there is a registered white thoroughbred filly named Deewhite by Trust N Luck out of a Gone West mare that will probably be at the next sale at Keeneland.
|
Speaking of greys, I still need to get my 2005 Derby poster signed by Mikey Smith so I can frame it and hang it in my new apartment August 1. Giacomo may be one of the least favorite greys going these days, eh?
I'm building a shrine of horse racing memorabilia. |
Slot, you sound like me, you should see the stuff I have gathered for the bar in the basement of my house.
Problem is, don't have the house yet..... |

I took a look at the White Fox site. Then decided to not make a comment. The half to Storm Cat explains those knees. Geesh! |
Slowly building my collection...starting small with some Black Tie Affair stuff, a couple of Keeneland items, and the 2005 Derby print. I think I might just have the Derby print framed and hang it as is.

My "guess" is that genetics for faults show up and then become prominent. I also don't think Mr Prospector passed this fault, because so many of his "get" don't have it. Hope this narrows it down. It's kind of like tracing Secretariat's huge heart to the mutation from Blue Larkspur. Your question is very interesting. My guess is to find the answer through a process of elimination. |
What the heck is Cahokia Downs?

I've never been there, but I know that the Cahokia lived on the east bank of the Mississippi (mound builders). Across from St Louis. Down? I think that comes from ducks or geese. |

http://observer.guardian.co.uk/osm/s...517178,00.html Cahokia Downs was a track in Illinois that had mostly claimers. It closed in 1979. |
I wish I understood these poster ratings systems. Cahokia freaking Downs trumps Suffolk Downs which is a spot above Pimlico?
|
Seriously, Cahokia Downs is going to drive me nuts.
