Sorry LF..missed this.

I haven't been following it as I should. It's this weekend? Apparently this Welsh guy is pretty good ....for being from across the pond that is.

There's also a good one form NE Ohio who should be fighting for a title soon. I think he's a middleweight ,but can't think of the name...let you know when I do.

NoChanceToDance 07-20-2007 04:02 PM

If you are talking about Joe Calzaghe, he is amazing. Have you seen him fight?

Mortimer 07-20-2007 04:04 PM

Ah is.

And I have not...he just became known to me about 3 months ago in the paper. Is he a brawler ala Ward/Gutay , etc ? Or a finesse/counter guy or what?

Not a brawler, that's for sure, he isn't really a finesse boxer either. He is just a hard walker, his hand speed is his strong point, he could probably land four punches in the same time it takes any other boxer land two at the most.

He wasn't at his best in his last fight a while back, but i think he broke his hand early in the fight, so he had excuses.

If he is over the hand break, he is very good. A joy to watch in the ring.

Who is he up against? I thought he was fighting Alex Aurther for some reason sometime soon.

Anyone else on the card this weekend?

Calzaghe, the Welsh guy, is very good. Unfortunately, the fight against Kessler isn't until November.

Are you thinking of Kelly Pavlik? He is supposed to fight Jermain Taylor next. I saw a date in September mentioned, but not sure if it has been finalized yet.

All four of those guys are unbeaten. Should be interesting fights if/when they happen. Not as interesting as Featherhands/Diaper, but interesting nonetheless.

Oh boy..I REALLY have catching up tp do.

Yes!...Pavlik is the guy...from Youngstown I think.

ror!

Featherhands would hit that guy 6 times before he hit the ground.

I recommend Calzaghe/Lacy and Pavlik/Miranda.

Both similar to how I envision featherhands/Diaper turning out.

You better hope you're not Lacy, Morty....... that poor guy got such a pasting! I remember that fight well. the Lacy camp came over giving it all the mouth saying that he was going to knock Calzaghe out within three rounds and it was pointless in Calzaghe showed up.

The Calzaghe camp said nothing other than watch the fight, it was a demolition to say the least!!!

They even made Calzaghe fight at like 3am our time over here, so that Lacy did have to adjust to the time change.

Nothing seems to get in this mans way.... he is a machine and on his day i think he is the best in the world.

Have you ever seen Ricky Hatton fight??

Mortimer 07-20-2007 06:09 PM

Have not...isn't this the English guy who may fight Mayweather?

Mortimer 07-20-2007 07:01 PM

Well I saw 3 clips and the guy is very impressive in a lot of ways.

He seems to lack power, but you don't need to have that given all the other things he can do....it was very, very impressive.

NoChanceToDance 07-21-2007 03:37 AM

Ricky Hatton is first class in every way.

Yes, i think his next fight is due to be Mayweather, which should be a brilliant fight because both of them respect eachother greatly.

He only recently had a fight in Las Vegas, which i didn't see, but i heard he won easily.

NoChanceToDance 07-21-2007 04:21 PM

What does anyone know about Wayne Braithwaite? He is fighting now

I really don't know either guy.

NoChanceToDance 07-21-2007 05:18 PM

Did you watch the fight?

Enzo is a very good boxer who is improving with every fight. In a way i'm glad he was taken the full distance, he usually just knocks everyone out within three rounds.

This is very confusing.

I'm going with a blast from the past and vote for Oracle 80. If pg85 is getting votes may as well have ole Mike involved.

Dont mean to put a damper on things but this would be the most boring big fight of all time. All Hatton does is hold and has little power at this weight. And PBF is so good he will stay away and pepper him to a decision. If this fight happens, it will be PBF in a unanimous decision with a bunch of very upset PPV viewers who feel like they got ripped off.
Terrible matchup of styles. REally awful. Stay away.

Cotto is the hot product against a number of foes.

I'm guessing you haven't seen Hatton fight much. People who have come up against him have said he is one of the hardest punchers they have come up against. His body shots win him fights. He is a little work horse.

He is in incredible shape. But the man holds so much to get in close to get to the body it is ridiculous. And yes I have seen a number of his fights unlike posters who read what others say and dont look at things with their own eyes and make an opinion. And yes he hits hard to the body, thats how he wins.

Hold--->body punch---->outlast anybody shape wise.

So when he comes up against a fighter of Floyd's skill and size, Hatton will be lunging to hold. Floyd will step to the side, jab and move. Then Hatton will eventually grab Floyd, upon which Floyd will go into his turtle shell defense where he is practically impossible to hit (Elbows held very low to cover the body). Floyd is a bigger man than Hatton beat up in his early fights. Now with Hatton up in weight to fight PBF, he does not have the same umph.

And the aforementioned will continue for 12 rounds of boredom. PBF in a UD. This is my opinion having watched both of them. The PPV will be awful. The styles dont fit.

And so lets get your opinion pre fight... what do you see happening?

NoChanceToDance 07-22-2007 09:19 AM

I agree with some parts of your post, but he isn't a complete one dimensional fighter like you are suggesting.

Mayweather will try to out 'play' him, but i'm not sure if he will be able to. If Hatton gets into his stride early, he will be hard to beat. If Mayweather can do enough in the first few rounds it might be a different story.

It will be an interesting tactical fight, that's for sure.

pgardn 07-22-2007 10:09 AM

I think if Hatton decided to go for it and just open up, it could be a very good fight. But based on his other fights at this weight, Ricky is not in to getting hurt. PBF is just so good defensively that he will stay away and cover up and then rapid fire like no one else can do. PBF has no intentions of getting hurt and imo Hatton does not either, so you end up with a bad fight. PBF is just God awful fast and takes zero risks. No one actually will go head hunting and risk getting hit. These guys are both very smart and realize they make more money by staying in the game.

So from a skill level and fitness aspect you get a good show. These guys are in the best shape of any boxers. But if you want to see someone go down... no way imo.
