I'm guessing that if the favorite wins, it will pay around $30,000. If the longest shot on the board wins, it will probably pay about $300,000.

I was way off. The minimum payoff is $75,000. There is even one horse that would carry it over.

Dude is 36, never married, no kids and pulls in $300K a year. I was sitting beside him last year when Barbaro won the Derby and he made close to $60K on that race alone.
