Plus, the way I look at it, she got one under her belt after the layoff, she got some exercise and some schooling, and it doesn't hurt to darken her pps a bit to get better odds next time out ('cause we know she's gonna' run back well in a softer spot). |
sumwon was 3 wide early, 5 wide around the far turn. she got tired. i spoke briefly to chuck before and after the race. she saddled fine, seemed fine all the way up to the race. it's her first start in over 4 months, and he said maybe he had her a little short. but that race will only help-said she seemed to cool out ok, he's going to have her scoped just to make sure, but thinks she's just tired.
it was a lot of fun--i watched at work, maybe another time i'll be lucky enough to be there live. |
Edgar just won with a nice one in the 6th... a Giant's Causeway filly named Carriage Trail.
|
Danzig, saw it pretty much the same way. Looked like she was a little headstrong into the first turn, wanted the lead while the instructions were to try to settle her. This led to her getting caught out wide which is where she was for the rest of the race. Looked like she did move a little in the stretch, but when a horse came in front of her and she had to move, she packed it in. I want to thank Chuck and Steve for the experience, it was fun to watch the race and hopefully there are better days in the future and this race helps for the future.

I wish Brian was on here right now...
Yolanda B. Too and Leah's Secret are running in the 8th! |
On ATRAB Steve said she came back fine and scoped clean. Steve also
said she was short for the race and will see improvement next time. She drank a whole bucket of water. The main thing she came out the race in good order. |

I just watched the replay on Calracing, and it looked to me like she didn't change leads coming down the lane. She was in the camera for a few strides as they straightened out for home and I don't think she had switched yet at that point. She might have switched later but it is hard to tell on the head-on with horses in front of her.
If I had to guess, I'd say Graham gave her a couple of left-handed whacks near the end to try to get her to switch. I'd also guess that her swerve at the top of the lane was him yanking on her trying to get her to change. He kind of did the same thing as they came out of the first turn to go down the backstretch. He looked back, she swerved and then she switched. Then again, I could be full of it...... :) I liked the effort, and I hope she comes home ok. There will be more races to run as long as she stays sound. Thanks again to Chuck and Steve for putting this together for us!!!!! |
Great thanks again to Chuck and Steve. Really a big thrill that I hope to repeat and exceed many times with this fine group.
Glad it sounds like she came back sound and we will regroup for next time. Certainly a bit of a tough trip as well as significant class/dist/surface test. Let's go smoke some $30K claimers next time! Look forward to the continued updates and learning. Pat |
Turf may not be her thing. I was expecting her to take the lead but she drew wide and stayed there and tired out. If she gets in a softer spot on dirt she may wire them at a price.

For whatever it's worth...race 7 was also a 3yr old filly NW1X allowance at 8.5f on turf was run almost 4 full seconds slower than race 4. Perhaps the track took in some rain or not don't know, still listed as firm. Interesting nonetheless.
1:42.98 and 1:46.64 comparing the two. |
20-30k 3yr old fillie turf is a tough race to find this time of the year. She got the experience against some real classie fillies. Lots of positives, Dint be discouraged. Im sure Cannon learned someting with the race and will help her ,

The Big Race
I watched the race riding in a car down the highway in NJ on my computer. I must admit, as others are saying, I've never enjoyed loosing more than today. Oh, well, there be other days.
Thanks to Steve and Chuck and Sumwon. Spyder from SC |

I'm so sorry that i missed the race but reading this thread..... i could feel the wonderful excitement.
Next time..... She came home safe and next time she'll do it.:) Congrats to all of you on your beautiful girl and her first start for you. That she was last will make the story even better years from now when you all look back..... Next time. Have faith. |
I thought she looked great on the track, a really nice looking filly. I'm sorry she didn't place for you guys, but Chuck will find her level of competition and I'm sure she'll be a nice horse for you all. It was so exciting watching her run, I can't wait for her next race! :)

She is fine, there is a couple stakes horses in that race right there and only finished about 15 lengths back, I wouldn't worry about it too much, it isn't like they are going to run her for 10k out of the box. She will be a grass winner, she looked like she took to it.... |
Those horses were too much for her today. She was short and chasing some faaaaast fractions.
I wonder how she is going to feel tomorrow. That's when she will be sore. man.. people at the Days Inn are loud and obnoxious. I didn't sleep at all last night |
Thanks to everybody for a wonderful day, it was a dream come through for me!
Steve, Chuck, all the Dee Tee partners and all 1,174 members of Derby Trail .com , you all are great people! Unlike some on "other" so-called racing sites... outcasts with no home! |
im sure steve or chuck will put up a recapp..and update..
|
A good start..
Back from dinner with Chuck and Paula (wife).. What a long, fun day..!
Hope all enjoyed this first experience as the Dee Tee Partners, and everyone here really, participated in what I believe was a tremendous accomplishment. In her first start in ALW company; her first start on grass; and first start in 90 days, Sumwon was as over-her-head as thought, and perhaps short for the 8.5 journey.. No matter. Even with a last place effort, the pleasure in bringing together so many people who had never before been involved in horse ownership was overwhelming. The objective of the Dee Tee Stable was to promote horse ownership and racetrack comraderie, and today was an undeniable success. At least 16 partners were in attendence at Keeneland, and I think they had a great time. And I can see that everyone that followed the day here, whether in DT or not, were equally excited. The kind words from everyone here is greatly appreciated, and I'm sure I speak for Chuck when I say that it's been our pleasure getting this undertaking off the ground. It's really those that inspired the concept and got involved that made it happen. And this was only the next step in the process. Sumwon exited the race tired, indicating she needed more work yet, but scoped clean and snapped back well after cooling out. This race will do a lot for her fitness, and as mentioned earlier in the thread, will likely run back on Sunday, April 29, Opening Day at Churchill. in a 1 mile (dirt) $50,000 claimer. More from Chuck later I'm sure.. and from me as well. Back in Florida tomorrow and will catch up soon as I can. Thanks to all Derby Trailers for making this a wonderful day... |
Cutback, surface switch , class drop should do wonders for her :) .

on this board. The dream of owning a part of a racehorse has become a reality for all DeeTee stable partners. The owning and watching a horse you own run is one of the greatest highs in the world. Even though she finished up last, she came back healthy and sound and to fight another day thats the main thing. |
I'm sorry that she didn't run better and I believe that she was probably just short of fitness today. That is not saying that she was going to make up 15 or so lengths but we may have got her too relaxed in her training and simply have not done enough with her. She seemed very tired afterwards but everything else looks good. The next few days will tell alot about where and when we run her back. If she bounces back ok then we will take a long look at the opening day race at CD. If she takes a little longer to recover we may need to find a different spot. Obviously we were hoping for a little more but we weren't undefeated going in and we did have a good time meeting all the partners which was really what this is about.

Had a blast today guys. Steve and Chuck could not be more gracious and accomodating. Hope to get some pics posted tomorrow.

It was great to meet everybody and a real thrill watching SUMWON on her maiden voyage in Dee Tee colors. Thanks Chuck and Steve for all your work and We'll get'em next time! Hope to run into all of you this fall in Saratoga Springs.

nice meeting the 5 Steves
Ed Bill Beth John Tony Chris and ... Pdrift sorry if I don't remember everyone it was sensory overload in the best way |
Just watched the race replays. She is a big lady. Poor girl got tired, those were some fairly tough early fractions. I did not get to see her enter the gate but her start was not bad even though the 8 horse blew by her. I was scared she would come out harder than that. Speed does not seem to be a problem so thats good.
Wavered a bit on the backstretch also, and poor thing has got to be very tired after that stretch. Glad she cooled out well and it was very exciting reading the excitement of everyone else. Well get um next time by God. Easy for me to say. I did not run over a mile today. Hope she is not to sore tomorrow. (I think she may have run the furthest distance wise in that race also). |

well i scav i disagree, i think the 15k for straight3 @arlington is the way to go! im not trying to upset any1 at all here just stating my opinion! shes a young filly and you want her to have confidence, she also handled the poly so shed have a advantage over most of the horses here shipping over from hawthorne! i understand you guys paid more than 15k for her but trust me theres no shame at all in running her where she can be competitive and possibly win! also im sure many are worried about getting her claimed, as i said before i can basically guarantee nobody would touch her for 15k here in chicago right now. if she keeps running up over her head and getting it ripped off shell be sour, have no confidence, and maybe running nickel condition races before ya know it come the latter part of the year. if she were mine(which of course shes not) id throw her right in where i said here and if she wins then rise her up. build her confidence which makes her happy and be competitive and win some races which will make you guys all alot happier! if ya like the grass that much for her, if she can win that 15k claimer here then maybe try the grass@ indiana downs for the a other than! obviously the horse comes first which ive referred to but also remember win lose or draw the bills keep coming every single day in this business...... straw, hay, feed, gallop help, farrier, vet, etc etc etc. again not trying to upset anyone just giving my opinion |
Ohmygosh, that was so much FUN!
Granted, I was wandering around in a fog because I haven't slept since yesterday morning (and still haven't, back at work now), but still I do remember meeting Steve, Steve, Steve, Steve, Tony, Ed, Chris, John, and Bill. Maybe another Steve? And Chuck! Chuck rocks :D I wish I could meet up with you guys every weekend:) Can't wait for her next race. |
