If an even money wins, a 5/2 finishes 2nd, and a 5/1 finishes 3rd in a 6 horse field, yeah you're probably going to get $12 for the exacta and $36 for the tri, but for an extreme example in the Derby the exacta paid $600 and the tri paid $10,000, with a very logical 15/1 (win odds) shot finishing third. He was "worth" 17/1 to show in the tri pool...

Yeah, I missed the exacta and tri because of Bluegrass Cat, but my saver bets with Barbaro to win and Steppy WPS helped me to break even. :o

That is true. I guess sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I am not a big tri player so I really dont pay that much attention.

OK, at the risk of creating an avalanche of silliness.....

These exotics were smashed by a couple of big bettors who, apparently, had a story on the winner. No chicanery, no betting after the start, just a couple of big players who had some info that, this time, was correct.

As was said before, these were first time starters.

Very good, thanks for the update. It doesn't take much extra action to knock down the price quite a bit on a $393 exacta in a $200,000.

I always figured that was the case. But i still don't like the way they left the rail open the whole way for Chantal.

There's a reasonable chance that the guys who scored out with the winner didn't either. Despite what someone intimated in this thread, the connections of the second finisher did NOT particularly like her chances in that race, and were pleasantly surprised by her performance.

My rule of crossing out the Blue Grass performance of every runner in the Derby paid me off this year on BG Cat. He was my last inclusion in the exacta/tri i had constructed...
