Yes, I know that they are saying that he equalled the record, and by 5ths he did. I was looking at Equibase though and they listed the record at 1:32.40 so DC won't get credited for equalling the record.

I'd recommend having a couple of beers and forgetting about it. I can't see where this makes any difference splitting hairs like this. Did you have some big future wager on whether or not the AQU track record would be broken this year?
Whether he equaled, was a hair better, or a hair worse, it was damn fast.

Coach Pants 11-25-2006 06:53 PM

Unbelievable. One of the best performances ever.

oracle80 11-25-2006 08:59 PM

It was a great race, no doubt. But the track was faster than the Indy 500 and Pletcher's quitting allownace horse ran 7f in 1:21:4 earlier in the card(held on by a head over a claimer).
This performance was indeed very good, great even, but don't go getting too carried away by the raw time.
And didn't any of you "he was under a hand ride" guys learn anything from Bernadini? He was asked and had a perfect setup.
Very good effort, but if you really wanna believe the time was so great, then I guess you have to consider Badge a super horse as well for going a mile in 1:33 flat.
Didn't anyone see the undercard and realize just how fast this track was playing?
The statebred allowance horse making his 2nd lifetime start went in 1:35:2 in the last race.
Guys this track was playing at LEAST two seconds fast in one turn races. More like 2 seconds and change.

poor ateam, moderator of a whiners board. everyone should have it so tough.

everyone who's paid attention to discreets figures this year know that he's been billed as the fastest--ahead of henny and bernardini for sure. shame he's shipping to dubai. his last ship knocked him out for a while, here's hoping he handles this trip better.

as for sharp humor, i guess you(ateam) and i are reading different posts. seems the only time i really see him mentioned is an occasional pick, and by ateam to knock those who like barbaro. such bitterness.

shame they're really putting badge away this time. his last two efforts have been pretty damn good!!

I dunno how you could whine about what he beat, he beat a good field.
I just don't know if anyone besides me ever watches undercards and realizes how incredibly fast this track was playing.
Great race yeah, but when you have ole Bark going in 1:21:3 on the same card, well I mean, do you need to be a rocket scientist to see how fast the track was?
using his raw time to try and prove hes Dr Fager isn't logical.
great horse yeah no doubt. I dunno about anything more than that.

blackthroatedwind 11-25-2006 09:20 PM

Anybody complaining about him equaling or setting the record on today's track because it was extraordinarily fast, which it was, doesn't remember the track the day Easy Goer set the record. That track was the same kind of highway.

Believe me, I loved Easy Goer, and hate to see him lose any record, but if it was going to happen at least it was a super talented horse like Discreet Cat. I doubt there is any shame in sharing a record with him.

And the haters rear their ugly head. So what the track was fast? Most records are set on fast days. And the time isn't important anyway at the end of the day....And you bring up Bernardini but fail to mention that Discreet Cat was always, I repeat always faster than Bernie. He has 2 -4 Thoros and Bernie never did that....The horse with the perfect trip was Badge and he couldn't do it. Discreet made his own trip sitting just off the pace and in the two or three path the entire way...And yes I'm not big on the hand ride thing but he wasn't perservered with at all. And just because Bernie couldn't find more under the whip doesn't mean this one couldn't. The fact is a 0 in his first race(as a 2 year old) could have fried this horse for life. Instead he is getting faster and better. Get ready for a -5 for this race and he's still only 3....But yeah, I guess his race was just ok. Puhhhhhhhlease. And Mike, there are lot of people on here who can watch races with a keen eye. Talking down to the board is beneath you.

Danzig 11-25-2006 09:53 PM

i really wish they'd have run this guy in the bcc. he was obviously ready for it, since he was their plan b if bernardini couldn't run.

i just wish he was staying over here rather than shipping back overseas. didn't like the trip last time. of course i understand why they're doing it.

Grow up will you?
Where do you see hating on the horse?
And what part of what i said was inaccurate exactly Randall?

don't think it's so much 'hating' as trying to keep things in perspective. we've been lucky to see some top notch, breathtaking performances all year. but they can't all be extra special i guess....

And **** you and your beneath ****.
I'm pointing out that some real slow horses ran real fast today.
I also didn't knock his effort which I said was great.
Anyone who would debate that it was a great effort is insane.
But the raw time seemed tobe mentioned in every post, and I really feel that anyone using that raw time as gospel without telling all the facts about the speed of the track isn't telling the whole story.
I suppose that horse who won the non 1 other than in 1:21:3 should be on the grade one trail now as well?
Pointing out a scorching surface while still calling something a great effort isn't hating, and its an outright LIE to accuse me of hating on the horse.

LOL it's quotes like this that are the problem Mike. "I just don't know if anyone besides me ever watches undercards and realizes how incredibly fast this track was playing." No there are a bunch of people here with their head up their ass, right.

Always a pissing contest here. Nonsense. And the way your inital posts read they sure do seem to be taking something away from the horse. This effort was every bit as impressive as Zapper's Met Mile and will come up with a comparable figure. What else do you want him to do?

How many horses living or deceased would of beat Discreet Cat today? IMO there is only one that I can think of and that would be Ghostzapper, and I am not sure he could of even got the job done. This is the fastest racehorse I have ever seen bar none.

Well that comment was to the folks who kept talking about the raw time.
They didn't phrase it as you just did.
And **** you and your pissing contest.
I'm so tired of people and their favorite little horses getting pissed off when someone praises a horse yet stops short of outright worship.
I think his race was great, and in my next post talked about not knowing how anyone could knock what he beat, he beat a good field.
easy Goer's track was just as scraped, maybe moreso, and like most track records both were as much a function of the track speed as they were the horse.
After the race was over I remarked to the guy next to me that the reason they retired Bern was because they knew he couldnt beat this guy next year.
I hope he stays sound, and I hope he returns to the US next year.

Hard to say. I always have a hard time gauging a performance on a track this fast, and I WISH SO BADLY that the track supers would stop scraping these tracks on big days, why do they have to do this?

oracle80 11-25-2006 10:10 PM

By the way Randall, I was all over Nobiz being a really really good horse after his 2nd in the Champagne. But although his race looked great today, I'm not really gonna say much about him because for the same reason, I'm not sure how good it was.
He caught a perfect trip and pace to track and pounce on, and although his raw time was great, I just can't say how great it was due to the surface.
These scraped tracks make it hard to gauge how good a performance really was.

randallscott35 11-25-2006 10:10 PM

Notice how none of my posts curse at you. There are other ways to make points.

In the DRF it shows how the track was playing and then they base a beyer on that combine with time. I wonder what kind of beyer he put up? I will say 123.

Shobiz is a really nice horse. Don't know how good he is but I'd take him over any other 2 year old, including Street Sense who I believe won't make the Derby.
