And nobody thought of asking what they had in their backpacks? I guess that would be considered racial profiling:zz:

the police can't just search you, they have to have cause.

How do you get "Search" from "Ask him what is in the backpack"

But to your misinterpretation of my point .

How about this.

Cop

"You there in the military fatigues with that HUGE backpack. Can I ask what is in it?"

Bad Guy

"No you have no right to search it"

Cop

"I didn't ask to search it I asked what is in it. Now that you mention it you can either open it up on your own or I can call down and we can wait for a warrant because you are acting suspicious. If you like sir we can go down to the station now while we wait for the warrant. You choose."

If you don't think stuff like this goes on 24-7 then you are wearing Rose colored glasses.

Too bad the guy (17 yr old kid) already went to the police after he saw his picture this morning and already has been cleared.

Unless that's part of the cover up as well:rolleyes:

Please don't link to that website from here. I do not want anything with my name on it associated with the vile, inane spew that emanates from it. I eliminated the Politics section from the Forum for a reason.

yeah, cause he'd have said 'a bomb' if a cop had asked? carrying a backpack isn't suspicious. refusing a search without a warrant is a constitutional right. hanging out at midnight in a neighborhood known for drugs-that's suspicious. standing at a marathon with a backpack-not suspicious.

jocko699 04-18-2013 05:05 PM

Just got home. Looks like they have a few suspects. If they are still in the country I would expect they are apprehended within 24-48 hours.

You ask and are trained to watch and read his response. You look to see if his breathing shallows or he starts sweating. You'd be suprised at the tells you'd get when someone is commiting a crime. Also I think that a guy in army fatigues and a Huge backpack this day in age should most definitely stand out. Now I await your usual snarky response.

my dad was a d.c. policeman for 20 years, when i was in the navy, i was working with the investigators and jag office in san diego. i'm not a neophyte about that sort of thing. as for camo, it's a popular style these days. if the cops stopped every guy in camo with a pack, he'd never get home.
'usual snarky response'. appreciate it.

"The suspects are brothers with the last name Tsarnaez, law enforcement officials told NBC News. Two law enforcement officials told NBC News that both men had international ties, had been in the United States about a year, were in their early 20s and had military experience."

i saw something about them being from a region near chechnya. of course, some of these 'breaking news' things most likely need corroboration.

crazy stuff. glad one's down. hope they find the other one, and very quickly. and hopefully alive for questioning.
