For the record, my post to grow a set was tongue in cheek. Although I love Bernardini's chances, I can think of far better ways to turn a grand into 2 grand than a straight up win bet. Why not a late double that day? You wont get even money by the way. I'd bet a grand on that!

See that's the thing though.. A double makes no sense unless I feel as strongly about the horse in the last as I do about Bernardini. And that's very unlikely.

dylan thomas intrigues me...but david junior more so. horse is perfect this year. man, is it november YET??

whatever you end up doing ateam...best of luck to you!!!

Gander 09-25-2006 04:52 PM

If you could find a race where you felt very strongly about 2 horses, it would make a lot of sense. You could bet two $200 doubles, and you could even save with 1 or 2 other horses ($50 doubles) to get yourself even on the entire bet. So you would be spending $500 instead of $1,000.

Your desired goal would still be the same, to win a grand. So you would need your 2 main doubles to pay in the range of $15-20 to achieve this. Your secondary doubles should pay between $25 and $35 to get you even.

Obviously if you found a horse that yielded a double even better than mine above, you could potentially create a huge score for yourself.

The plusses- A huge score could be had, way more than $1 grand. If Bernardini does lose, you only lose $500. You have that other $500 to get out in the last race of the day if you so choose to do so.

The minuses- Bernardini could romp and a bomb or a heavy favorite you thought had little chance could win the last and you'd lose money.

Another minus though, is that the finale will most likely be a statebred N1X or something to that effect, and I will just be going on what I see in the form if I like anything.. Who knows if the horse is live? Whereas in a race like the JCGC, that's not as big of a concern.

Gander 09-25-2006 05:11 PM

True Dat. True Dat. Then bet the grand! Feel the juice like never before.

ateamstupid 09-25-2006 05:13 PM

Actually, considering the consensus is that he'll be less than even money, I think I'll go with Curt's idea.. Just gotta find me a skeezer now..

I'm not convinced he goes off at less than 1-1, ateam. Especially if there are 8 or more horses in the field.

I have those odds at around 2/1.

you nailed it Zeig.

DThomas is a really nice turf 3YO with a pedigree that suggests that he MIGHT act on dirt.

David Junior is a really nice 10f older turf horse with a pedigree that suggests that he should move UP on dirt.
if any horse beats Bernardini on BC day, Im guessing its DJ.

Ateam, don't trust any 1 particular whore, crack addict,4 legged animal etc. with large amounts of money.

TheSpyder 09-26-2006 05:43 AM

IA-team, If you're going to bet:

Bet half now. thegreek.com is giving:
2.15/1 on Bernadini

and bet half at race time. This way you get much better odds but risk him not running. If you'd bet 3/2, then 2+/1 is a real nice looking number, correct?

Put the Hammer Down Son. This is the bet. Bernadini's connections have been pointing to this race for some time and if you wait till after his next race the odds will go down.

Is that for the BCC or the JCGC? I'm talking about the JCGC.

Gander 09-26-2006 02:38 PM

Those odds are most certainly for the BC Classic.

Not too many places offer futures for the JCGC and if they did, you wouldnt be getting 2/1.

2MinsToPost 09-26-2006 02:47 PM

My Mom got me a future on Lava Man in Vegas this weekend as a gift for taking care of some chores, etc for her. I guess if this hits I can send the ticket to the casino and they send me a check?

Gander 09-26-2006 02:51 PM

Yes, send it back after he wins the Classic and they will mail you a check. Make sure you insure when you mail it, costs like $4.
Nice Mom Curt. Thats a wonderful gift.
