The Villages is a curious enclave of retirees that covers parts of three counties here in Florida. Today's Republicans are a far cry from Republicans of yesteryear. I voted for Rockefeller (Republican) for Governor of NY in 1966 and 1970, and voted for John Lindsay (Republican-Liberal; how do you figure that?) for NYC Mayor in 1965 and 1969.

I would have voted for John Housman this year had he gotten the nomination.

Been to the Villages couple times in the past...Is Lady of the Lake part of the villages?...Had friends from Ind and CT retire there..We usta rent a condo at New Smyrna in April and we would visit back and forth...and of course i spent many afternoons at Daytona dog track...:)

"Half-year plus one day" might work for RESIDENCY purposes, but establishing one's DOMICILE for tax purposes is more complicated. I was an Income Tax Auditor for NY State back in the 90's, and I was assigned to the "snowbird" unit on Long Island. We collected lots of tax revenue from people who had a winter residence outside of NY (usually Florida), but maintained a permanent place of abode in NY and had NOT changed their domicile to FL. Changed their tax filing status from "Non-Resident" to "Resident" unless they could meet the burden of proof in establishing a change of domicile; most couldn't because they still had business and other ties to NY.
