i go to a.c. once or twice a year. every year it gets more hostile.

this summer i was yelled at and followed by several homeless junkies. they were actually screaming at me on the street to give them money and this was about 2 in the afternoon. that same week two people were shot and killed in a car jacking from trumps casino. what else do i need to say?

that doesn't happen at foxwoods or monticello.

going to the north end of the boardwalk at night is just plain scary. this has been a developing pattern over the years. people won't go to somewhere they feel there life is in danger. go 2 blocks off the boardwalk at night and you better be on your guard. if and when the revell casino opens that alone will put 2 or 3 smaller ones out of business.

they brought on their own demise. corruption has ruled since mobsters poured the foundations.

too many casinos with too many vacant tables and slots, too many empty floors of hotels that are barely even used anymore. too many homeless and hookers. (well lets keep the hookers)

solution: 2 maybe 3 casinos on the boardwalk and spread the slots to the racetracks so everyone in the state can gamble without fear of being assaulted. the state gets revenue and everyone will be better off.

happy holidays!

I was at Harrahs a couple of weeks ago and the place was mobbed. It seems like they have geared the place towards a younger (early 20's crowd). Supposedly the scene at the Borgota is the same. Not sure how buisness on the rest of the strip is doing, but i would think that the 245 million (mentioned in the posted article) that the casinos generated in revenue is nothing to sneeze at.

Are there bad areas around A.C.? Sure, but guess what, there are a couple of blocks around Monmouth that's on the sketchy side too. Why would you want to walk around the neighbood in AC anyway? As far as the Boardwalk goes, I've always seen a strong police presence there (in the warmer months). That's where the tourists go anyway.

Obviously casinos popping up all over the place is hurting buisness, but the casinos seem to be reinventing themselves in what still is a struggling economy. I would also think that it's off season now. But the state just has to much vested in AC to stop supporting it. It's just seems like you have an agenda against Atlantic City. It's a big summertime destination and you want to get down to only 2-3 hotels? The state can't afford to lose out on that revenue, not to mention if the majority of those people ended up unemployed.

Please don't insult everyones intelligence by saying that you want slots at the Meadowlands and Monmouth so people don't have to worry about their lives to gamble. NJ racing survived off A.C. for a long time, but this is a different enviorment. The state just has too much vested in the Atlantic City/Southern Jersey area to diminish their buisness further by approving slots at the 2 tracks. What really needs to be done is to make Monmouth a Ultra Short Boutique Meet. Something like 34 days from Memorial Day to the last day of July (Haskell Day). Runs 4 days a week, Friday through Monday to take advantage of the lack of racing on Mondays. I would sign up for a month of quality racing instead of the constant crap that raced there on a consistant basis for the eternity that the 2011 meet seemed to be. If they can't make something like that work, then it just isn't meant to be. We always say it, there's too much racing. Unfortunately Monmouth just wouldn't make the cut.

Yeah those stats are relavant.
Atlantic City's population is 8x what Ocaenport is (off your 2006 stats you posted). In 2008 over 34 million people visited A.C., I'm guessing the number was pretty similar in 2006, so 18 murders isn't exactly Compton like numbers. Nice try though :zz:.

only camden gives them any competition.

and i never feel any danger at monmouth or the meadowlands. racing gamblers are a different breed, much more friendly.

in the end you will see a few less casinos in a.c. and a casino in the meadowlands and maybe monmouth.

i'm not good picking horses but that is a lock.[/QUOTE]

this just in (as predicted)

Under terms of the lease, Gural agreed to build a new, $70 million grandstand on the opposite side of the current grandstand, as well as 1,500 parking spaces at the site of the current barns on the backstretch.

Gural would also have a right to conduct slot machine operations or other new gaming at the track, depending on legislative approval.

love it.

j gural is a very smart man. he wouldn't do this without the idea of slots coming in.

and as far as the approval....

no doubt about it.

Great business being a prognosticator with an open ended timeline becuase people will tend to forget how wrong you are when the end is open ended. How long will this slam dunk take? Listen i want it as much as anyone but i think AC owns the current regime.

Damn! Missed it by one year.

State Sen. Paul Sarlo (D-Wood-Ridge) has been a longtime booster of a Meadowlands-based casino, and New York's push to expand their gambling footprint has some feeling an increased sense of urgency, but President Stephen Sweeney said he'd reached an agreement with Sarlo to give Atlantic City five more years before bringing casinos elsewhere in the state,”

What if these guys aren't in office in 5 years?

jms62 01-27-2012 08:35 AM

Horse racing should claim sole ownership of Sports betting since they are the only one currently allowing betting on Live Sports events. Of course this exactly http://www.hark.com/clips/mkfjbdvsyq-zero-point-zero chance of happening.

For 20 mil a year the State could have continued to provide a awesome product 80 days a year. The product was wonderful the pools were big the fields were big the crowds were big and NJ was significant all for a crumby 20plus mil a year. You didnt need slots you didnt need parlays on football you didnt need anything. All they had to do was seed it for 5 years and watch as the product became important to NJ. Instead its a fn mess. What the heck is 20 mil to NJ

NJ Horsemen close to finalizing MTH deal:
http://www.app.com/article/20120207/...sey=nav%7Chead

Forbes said if the THA bid is accepted, the group hopes to close on the deal next month and open Monmouth Park’s live racing season in mid-May. The group would also take over the Woodbridge off-track wagering facility and develop two more sites. The track would have three race days per week until Labor Day weekend in September — 51 race days in all — with $400,000 in daily purses.
